C.H. Spurgeon: The People's Preacher  (2010) | Movie

2,018,939 views May 14, 2020  A most remarkable Gospel preacher.

This powerful, inspirational docudrama faithfully recreates the times of C.H. Spurgeon and brings the “people’s preacher” to life as it follows his trials and triumphs with historical accuracy. Here is the intimate story of one of the greatest preachers in the history of the church. We follow him from his youth where, as a young preacher he is surprisingly called to minister in London and soon captures the love and respect of the nation. He goes on to become one of its most influential figures. This powerful, inspirational docudrama faithfully recreates the times of C.H. Spurgeon and brings the “people’s preacher” to life as it follows his trials and triumphs with historical accuracy. Made by the award-winning Christian Television Association and filmed on location in England, Scotland, France and Germany, this film vividly captures the spirit and message of a man whose eventful — and sometimes controversial — life is highly relevant to the twenty-first century.

 WHAT IS THE BEST BIBLE:

GOD’S WORD (Immutable, God breathed, Self-Authenticating. Providentially Protected and Preserved and Forever Settled in Heaven, Psalm 119:89) The Authorized King James Bible

Is It The Best?   David Hocking

David’s Summary  (8 min.) The problem is not English, but which Greek text was used to render the English translation.

BC/AD  versus  BCE/CE   What’s the difference?  Tap link to see.

*A.D. does NOT mean “After Death”.  It is a Latin abbreviation for Anno Domini,  a  phrase adopted for use in English meaning  “Year of the Lord”.  The complete, original phrase is "anno Domini nostri Jesu Christi" means "in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ”.    A.D. or B.C. [Before Christ]  describes the division of all human history as either before or after the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

 Who is Charles Haddon Spurgeon?

…an introduction by Stephen Lawson

The inspired preaching, teaching and writings  of Charles Haddon Spurgeon were bedrock solid on God’s revealed Word, the Bible.  His written publications continue to benefit readers through authentic Gospel preaching and sound biblical teaching. The ministry continues to flourish from the  Metropolitan Tabernacle,   (Brief History) a church begun in 1650. The building was constructed by members of the congregation in 1861. It continues to thrive and flourish today.

Is this website trustworthy?

Is it of God?

1 John 4:1-3

(AKJV) Translation From Textus Receptus:  The Ultimate Stare Decisis [to stand by things divinely  decided]

Psalm 119:89  ל   (Lamed)  For ever, O  Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.

Beloved ones, don’t be believing every spirit [everyone or everything] you hear but be testing the spirit [voice] whether it is of God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Here’s how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit [voice] that confesses [avows] that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh, having come[who came] from God, is of God:  and every spirit that confesses [avows] not that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit [voice] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Therefore, I hereby confess that “Jesus Christ is here, from God, in the flesh.”

[English translations of the Bible that use Greek manuscripts other than the Textus Recptus render the English text to be  “Has come”.

Translations from such manuscripts do not consider  “ictin”  (The Greek word for is)  and therefore do not correctly render it, “Is come” [Is Here].  (AKJV)

This  error is evident, also,  because non-believers and false prophets can, and sometimes do,  make the confession that He “has come” in the flesh. This is to be expected as the birth of Jesus Christ is arguably the most well documented fact in all of recorded history.  Indeed, Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. This is true. However, spiritual discernment could scarcely be ascertained as to whether the spirit [spoken words] being tested can be discerned as being either from God or from the antichrist.  While it’s  true that Jesus Christ “has come” in the flesh, it is of paramount importance to make the confession that Jesus Christ, “is here,  from God, in the flesh.”

By reading and meditating on Scripture in view of all other relevant Scripture, God’s Word  self-authenticates:

1 John 4:1-3 with Ephesians 5:30-32

30 for we are members of his [Jesus Christs’]  body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

[We are members of His body, flesh and bones, one flesh with Him, as the church].

He was born of a virgin 2022 years ago, lives today,

and is coming soon for His bride; the Church.

"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:

God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit,

believed on in the world, received up into glory."
1 Timothy 3:16

It’s every believer desire to worship God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength, in Spirit and in truth.

“Study to show yourself approved unto God, a worker that needs not be ashamed, rightly dividing [accurately preaching] the word of truth.”    2 Timothy 2:15

To this end, Heavenly Father, we pray that You will bless all who visit this website bringing  many to the Lord Jesus Christ.  We ask this in Jesus’ name and for His sake, Amen.

This website  does not replace nor can it be a substitute for in-person meeting and assembling of ourselves together. Hebrews 10:23-27

Rather, it’s purpose is to save lost sinners and to build up and encourage believers through God’s Word and prayer in personal discipleship, worship and devotion to the Lord Jesus as we are conformed to His image.  “For whom God did foreknow he did also predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son…” Romans 8:29

The redeemed are scripturally instructed to assemble,  praise and worship God through His son, the Lord Jesus Christ and for exhorting and provoking one another to good works.

Such worship may be encouraged through, congregational singing of sacred hymns and spiritual songs, reading, preaching and heeding God’s Word, sharing Christian love and fellowship, agreeing together  in offered [public] prayer, and considering and exhorting one another in the Word, provoking one another unto love and good works and bearing witness with one another in the Holy Ghost.

Admonition: Online streaming can not satisfy physical, in-person assembly. Electronic media can not substitute for  physical inter-personal fellowship, commitment, or vulnerability, nor does it allow for the kind and comforting touch of another person.  e.g. Laying on of hands, 1 Timothy 4:14;  the right hands of Christian fellowship, Galatians 2:9; or an embrace, Acts 20:1; or greeting with a holy kiss,

1 Thessalonians 5:26

We give thanks to the Lord, for DailySpurgeon.com  website and pray that it will continue to be a blessed instrumentality of God to share the gospel where believers are encouraged, built up and being conformed to the image the Lord Jesus Christ.

…Jon always said “Later”; [see-ya-later] instead of “good bye”. It was his standard greeting to bid farewell … He never would say “good-bye”. Now,  remembering the sound of him saying “Later”, it rings very true as to its new and deeper meaning and it brings a joyfulness and comfort to the hearts of those he loved so well; those who love him still and will forever more.

… we are reminded of the promise of the Hymn:

’Till We Meet Again. Amen.

Jon loved to say, “I’m a blood-bought, born-again Child of God!” to all those he met or anyone who would listen.

… Jon’s  testimony of faith by grace lives on by love from one who was forever accepted in the Beloved; One who’s loving testimony brings the good news of Jesus to many.  one who is now in the presence of the LORD forever.  One who we’ll  one day meet again.
Amen.

LIFE    by Elvis
This recording was discovered several months  after Jon was called home on January 16th 2021.  It’s a blessing, to hear Elvis sing the Gospel message in song but, of course, it can’t  compare with the Glory of being in the actual presence of the LORD.

*I Can Only Imagine being present with the LORD,  or hearing the completed song the Lord completed with Jon when he arrived; a song known only to the Lord,  to Jon and the few who heard Jon sing it here. Lyrics remembered  from him singing:   "See my Jesus, Walkin' on duh Waduh"…  an original song from Jon’s loving  heart, from a true, renown original, Gift from God.

* Click and sing  I Can Only Imagine   with Wynonna Judd,  won’t you?

Love Without End, Amen  (A Father’s Love) by George Strait for George H.W. Bush  (41st President)  at the Houston Astrodome, one of the President’s favorite songs.

It’s also my sincere  message of love to all  my children, grand-children and great grand-children etc..

…Jon would always say “Later”; [as in, see-ya later] instead of “good bye”.  It was his only farewell greeting when parting company with a friend; and, everyone was Jon’s friend.

… He would never  say “good-bye”.

Now, as we remember the sound of him saying “Later”, it rings true in a  new and deeper meaning and it brings a joy and comfort to the hearts of those whom he loved so well; those who love him still and will forever more.

… and how much sweeter to us now, are the promises in these two Hymns:

’Till We Meet Again. (sing along, won’t you?)

TODAY’S  SERMON: (Audio recording)
From Spurgeon’s Metropolitan Tabernacle (Brief History)

Light at Evening Time   Zechariah 14:6,7 Sermon by Spurgeon: Narrated by Charles Koelsch

PREVIOUS SERMONS:

God’s Directions for Happiness   Proverbs 15:13-22   with Dr. Peter Masters

A remarkable group of proverbs teach that spiritual joy must be deepened by the individual believer taking the rights steps here enumerated. They also show that joy needs spiritual priorities, restraint over material things, fellowship, control of anger, and worthy not trivial meat for the mind. Here is spiritual happiness!

The Phenomenon of Love   Isaiah 63.7   By Dr. Peter Masters

The nature and scope of human love is impressive, but Divine love, made visible in history and, supremely in the atoning sacrifice of Christ, is limitless, freely bestowed and certain toward all who find Him. Here are the 'loving-kindnesses of the Lord' they experience.

Let Calvary Speak   John 19:16-23   with Dr. Peter Masters

A devotional study of significant events at Calvary: (1) Christ's garments stripped, (2) the bravery of four women, (3) Christ's compassion to Mary, (4) His last triumphant report to the Father, (5) the proof of His death, (6) the new-found boldness of formerly-secret disciples.

Disabilities of the Soul   Isaiah 35:5-8   with Dr. Peter Masters

700 years before Christ, Isaiah describes the radical change that conversion brings about, using pictures of sight to the blind, agility to the crippled, and rivers streaming into the desert. Here is how the phenomenon of new life enters heart and soul when we come to Christ.

A Balanced Mind     Philippians 3:20   with Dr. Peter Masters

The opposite of minding earthly things is to keep heavenly themes in view. Here is how we should express and experience our heavenly citizenship with its riches and benefits, and how this exalts Christ in our hearts, and gives us perspective for all situations.

Proving the Lord    Philippians 4:6-7 with Dr. Peter Masters

A refresher in prayer: right and wrong anxiety; spiritual damage of the latter; hindrances and helps in prayer; the approach to God; rules of pleading; elements of thanksgiving; reasons why prayer is not heard; the mistake of the 'Yes, No, Wait' scheme, and the glorious reality.

Learning From The Conquest   Joshua 11   with Dr. Peter Masters

We learn the need of limited methods in the Lord's work, how to identify “Hazors” [ “Enemies”. Hazor -important Cannan capital city opposing Joshua] or pivotal issues in the defense of faith, the necessity of total obedience to God's plan, and the certain fall of Anakim giants that triggered Israel's unbelief and disobedience.

Communion With Christ   Ephesians 3:19   with Dr. Peter Masters

Communion is described by Paul, not in terms of a mystical sensation, but as the realization of Christ's love in our 'inner lives'. Here we see how His love passes knowledge; how it is a lifelong and eternally-progressive appreciation; how it transforms us; and how it makes us feel.

To Whom Do We Submit? (Audio only)   James 4:7-10   with Dr. Peter Masters

To know Christ we must first submit to Him, but who will? It offends our pride. But in rejecting God we unwittingly submit ourselves to a host of other influences and forces. How much better and greater is the love and power of the Savior of souls.

Christ’s Own Appeal to Souls   John 3:13      with Dr. Peter Masters

How the Lord presented salvation by grace to Nicodemus, showing that it was always given to individuals, through faith, by the immeasurable love of God in Christ. Here also is the Lord explaining why people refuse to believe, and his appeal to Nicodemus to repent.

Acts of God   Isaiah 28:1   with Dr. Peter Masters

A prophecy about the fall of Samaria and later the Babylonian invasion of Judah tells us much about God’s method and purpose when He allows HIV, MERS, SARS, earthquakes, floods, fires, and now worldwide plague. Here also is God’s promise of personal salvation.

Keeping Alive the Spirit     Ephesians 2.21-22   Dr. Peter Masters

In the building of a spiritual family the work of the Holy Spirit is the vital power. Here several Holy Spirit verses in Ephesians are explored (including ‘Be filled with the Spirit’) to show the different activities of the Spirit in the Christian life.

ESSENTIAL  SERMONS:

The Necessity of a New Birth   John 3:7   with Dr. Peter Masters

Being 'born again' is a greatly debased term today through light usage, but it is vital to genuine conversion and spiritual life. Here is how Christ's term brings to life what happens when people come to Christ, what it feels like and what it leads to.

Things Only Believers See     1 Corinthians 2:9   Sermon by Dr. Peter Masters
(A roadmap for rightly dividing and discerning every doctrinal issues)
Sunday Morning 13 February 2022
The apostle impresses upon us the spiritual blindness of our unconverted state to the wonders revealed in the Gospel, including future glories (described here). Here also is the meaning of:

  • 'Comparing spiritual things with spiritual,'  [By comparing Scripture with Scripture we see The teaching of the Holy Ghost authenticate God’s Holy Scripture with itself]
     1 Corinthians 2:13

  • Judging all things and   v. 15

  •  Living the mind of Christ. v.16

Seeing into the Heart
Dr Peter Masters, Pastor
Mark 7.1-2

In rejecting extra-biblical customs of Jewish tradition the Lord was freeing believers to live as they liked but calling for genuine holiness rather than ceremonial cleansing. Here is His searching review of the state of the unforgiven human heart.

Note #2: (First, Read Note #1 below)
As I was listening to the above message I discovered, once again that as I turned to the announced located the announced Scripture reference ; once again, TWO WEEKS IN A ROW, I was on the ribbon marked page. Keep me here, Lord, as long as it pleases Thee, for me to focus on this Word proclaiming Your sovereignty.

Teaching Sermon   11:00am | Sunday 5 March 2023
Having Spiritual Reality
Dr Peter Masters, Pastor

Note #1:   On Monday, the 6th of March 2023, the day after I live-streamed  this sermon, (from The Metropolitan Tabernacle in London), I took delivery of a Bible that I had recently ordered. This was special because it was an exact copy of a Bible I had given to my Mother many years before. It was, by now, well-worn  and damaged but still, very special. I search the internet and was happily surprised  to find a copy of the same edition, available for sale.

After mother was called home to be with the Lord, I enjoyed using her Bible. It’s special to me  because of her  notes written in the margins, because she had kept the Family Record pages up to date  and, and most of all, the Presentation Page where I am blessed when I read  these loving words:
Presented to: “Eldora M.Riley”

By:  “My dear son John Michael”  (That’s me)

Date:   “Sept- (sic) 1978”

On the Occasion of:   “Just because I expressed an admiration for the ‘Big Print’ in this Bible.”

So, On Tuesday night, the day after I picked up the newly ordered Bible, I thought I would begin to read it through, from cover to cover. And so, I began to read. I made it through Genesis, Chapters One and Two, focusing on every word.  Then, to fight off my drowsiness and to satisfy my curiosity, I decided to find out what scripture verses the red ribbon was marking.  I turned to the page where the ribbon book marker had been left and I  began to read  at the top of the page.

Hey, this seemed very familiar to me. When had I heard this before? I continued reading and then, after several verses, I remembered.

This was  the exact text of the message I had heard Dr Masters preached, just  two days ago, live-streaming from The Metropolitan Tabernacle in London.

Unbelievable! I then went back, listened to the complete Full-service recording of the Sunday morning worship service again; certain,  I was being led to give  closer attention.

I listened to it two more times and was blessed by the power and sovereignty of the Lord through His simple words conveying  His sovereignty:

“It is I!”

 FEATURED SERMONS:

What is Happening to Worship?     2 Timothy 3.16-17   Dr Scott Aniol

Is the music we use in churches simply a matter of preference? Or is some music wrong? In practice music has increasingly come under the influence of the prevailing popular culture. Dr Scott Aniol, Chair of the Worship Ministry department at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary shows how the Bible should regulate the music we adopt, and takes us through the issues almost entirely overlooked in today’s confusion.
Sanctify Them Through Thy Truth      John 17:17    Dr. Peter Masters, Pastor
Sanctification (purification, consecration and commitment) by the Word is the will of Christ for His own, and here we turn to the first three of the Ten Commandments to challenge our souls. How should these be applied today in our lives and churches?
Closeness to Christ    2 Timothy 2:10-12   Dr.  Peter Masters

Mutual Debts in Marriage    1 Corinthians 7:3    Dr. Peter Masters  15 January 2012

(3) The Pilgrim’s Progress  Part II   Christiana by  John Bunyan

The Pilgrim Progress is the world’s most famous Allegory, and the most widely published book in English Literature of all time.  It was often found among the very few personal belongings of American Pioneers and Settlers. It’s Loved and  read by millions, for guidance, encouragement and comfort. It has also been considered, by some, to be the precursor if not the actual world’s first  Novel.

It is the world’s most published book of all time;  The Holy Scripture of The Bible, notwithstanding. There were 1,300 editions printed before 1938,  250 years after the author's death and it has never been out of print.

Charles Spurgeon often used  The  Pilgrim’s Progress to illustrate his sermons:  He was taught to read at a very early age and first read The Pilgrim’s Progress when he was six years old. He would return to read it over 100 times. He often quoted  from Bunyan and the characters personified in The Pilgrim's Progress.

Excerpt from a Charles H. Spurgeon Sermon:  II. § 5

THE SWEETNESS OF THIS MYSTERY, WHICH IS CHRIST IN YOU.

“Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me [Spurgeon]  of Mr. Bunyan’s picture in The Pilgrim’s Progress. [The Holy War] of  Mansoul,

…when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams [ancient weapons of war] had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melodies], for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart [main castle]  he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.

Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven. Oh, for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus; it is our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.

Index to the 533 Scriptural  References cited in The Pilgrim's Progress    A.D. 1678, 1687
John Bunyan did not write nor hold to a world view of any kind. His inspired work, The Pilgrim’s Progress, known as the world’s most  widely circulated allegory published in English, translated into over 200 languages and has never been out of print the in the ,  does not subscribe to any world view at all  but proclaims God’s view on everything revealed and forever settled in Heaven Psalm 119:89 in His Holy Word.
Bunyan simply, yet ardently believed God’s Word;  He believed that it was God-breathed [inspired of God], Self-authenticating, Providentially-protected and preserved by God Himself, immutable [unchanged and unchangeable], inerrant [without error] , infallible [incapable of failing or having error ascribed to it], indestructible and eternally  written Word from GOD Himself for ever settled in Heaven. Psalm 119:89

GOD, the omnipotent [infinitely powerful], omnipresent [infinitely present everywhere at the same time], perfectly righteous, just and Holy, by His Word created the universe. The Lord Jesus Christ; God’s incarnate Word pre-existed with God and is now, and has always been and will forever be in perfect agreement with God, the Father and the Spirit of Truth. [The Holy Ghost] as to attributes and purpose.

God’s infinite Love and Grace to redeem fallen, totally depraved, hell-bound sinners is given to all who will look to Him for salvation  Isaiah 45:22

Pilgrim’s  Progress was given to John Bunyan in the form of a dream. It became the world’s most published allegory of all time and has imparted wisdom to many who seek or have sought eternal life and avoidance of eternal damnation.

Readers of The Pilgrim’s Progress may be aided in understanding the referenced scripture verses and in being more mindful of them  by taking Pilgrim’s journey with him.  Take the journey,  won’t you?

PRAYER 14, Part 5 of 8
BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL!    Gaither Congregation (Sing with us, won’t you?)

URL:
https://youtu.be/d3pQOmFts0E

Once more we pray Thee bless Thy Church. Lord quicken [make alive] the spiritual life of believers. Thou hast given to Thy Church great activity, for which we thank Thee. May that activity be supported by a corresponding inner life. Let us not get to be busy here and there with [like] Martha [scolded for her great [excessive] business in the Bible], and forget to sit at Thy feet with Mary.

Luke 10: 40-42
40  But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me.

41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

42 but one thing is needful; and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Lord, restore to Thy Church the love of strong doctrine.

May Thy truth yet prevail. Purge out from among Thy Church those who would lead others away from the truth as it is in Jesus, and give back the old power and something more [stronger than ever].

[In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.]

ANECDOTE 244: Gospel Hardened.

It is quite possible for a minister to preach too long to any one set of people, if they get so accustomed to the tones of his voice that they are never aroused. The “click, click” of the [water-wheel] mill gets to be so customary to the miller that he goes to sleep.

Over in Bankside, I am told, when a man is first put inside a boiler while the rivets are being fastened, he cannot stop [endure it] long, the noise is so dreadful, but after a time the boilermaker gets so used to the horrible din [clanging] that he can most [almost] go to sleep inside. Well, now, so it really is under any ministry when the people get gospel-hardened.

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK APRIL 5 NOT FORGOTTEN C.H. Spurgeon

-Thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be for gotten of me- Isaiah 44:21
- Siervo mio eres tu: Israel, no te olvidare- Isaías 44:21

Our Jehovah cannot so forget His servants as to cease to love them. He chose them not for a time, but forever. He knew what they would be when He called them into the divine family. He blots out their sins like a cloud; and we may be sure that He will not turn them out of doors for iniquities which He has blotted out. It would be blasphemy to imagine such a thing. He will not forget them so as to cease to think [be mindful] of them. One forgetful moment on the part of our God would be our ruin.

Therefore, He says:

“Thou shalt not be forgotten of me.”

Men forget us: those whom we have benefited turn against us: we have no abiding place in the fickle hearts of men; but

God will never forget one of His true servants. He binds [ties] Himself to us not by what we do for Him, but by what He has done for us.

We have been loved too long, and [been] bought at too great a price to be now forgotten. Jesus sees in us His soul’s travail [labor of love] , and that He never can forget. The Father sees in us the spouse [wife] of His Son, and the Spirit sees in us His own effectual work. The Lord thinketh [thinks] upon us. This day we shall be succored [saved] and sustained.

Oh, that the Lord may never be forgotten of us!

Prayer: Thank you, Father, that You will never forget us [your blood bought children]. Lord Jesus, I know that you are God’s only begotten son, and that You became sin for us [me]. You who are perfectly righteous, were made to be  sin and took my punishment for sin on the cross for my salvation. Also, I know that God raised You, Lord Jesus. from the dead, victorious over sin, the devil and the grave so that I could be made the righteous of God in You.

Thank you, for Your matchless gift of grace, Amen.

MORNING April 5

"On him [Simon] they laid the cross, that He might bear it after Jesus." —Luke 23:26
—A Simón le pusieron encima la cruz para que la llevase tras Jesús. —Lucas 23:26

WE see in Simon's carrying the cross a picture of the work of the Church throughout all generations;

She [the Church] is the cross-bearer after Jesus. Christian, observe that Jesus does not suffer so as to exclude you from suffering. He bears a cross, not that you may escape it, but that you may endure it. Christ exempts you from sin, but not from sorrow.

Remember that, and expect to suffer. But let us comfort ourselves with this thought, that in our case, as in Simon's,

it is not our cross, but Christ's cross that we carry.

When you are molested for your piety, when your religion brings the trial of cruel mocking upon you, then remember it is not your cross, it is Christ's cross; and how delightful it is to carry the cross of our Lord Jesus!

You carry the cross after Him. You have blessed company; your path is marked with the footprints of your Lord. The mark of His blood-red shoulder is on that heavy burden. It is His cross, and He goes before you as a shepherd goes before his sheep.

Take up your cross daily, and follow Him.

Do not forget, also, that you bear this cross in partnership. It is the opinion of some that Simon only carried one end of the cross, and not the whole of it. That is very possible; Christ may have carried the heavier part, against the transverse beam [crossbeam],  and Simon may have borne the lighter end. Certainly, it is so with you: you do but carry the light end of the cross, and Christ bore [bears] the heavier end.

And remember, though Simon had to bear the cross for a very little while, it gave him lasting honor. Even so the cross we carry is only for a little while at most, and then we shall receive the crown, the glory.

Surely, we should love the cross, and, instead of shrinking from it, count it very dear, when it works out for us:

"a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."

EVENING April 5

"Before honor is humility. " —Proverbs 15:33
Delante de la honra está la humildad. —Proverbios 15:33

HUMILIATION of soul always brings a positive blessing with it. If we empty our hearts of self, God will fill them with His love. He who desires close communion with Christ should remember this word of the Lord:

"To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth [trembles] at My word."

Stoop if you would climb to heaven. Do we not say of Jesus,

"He descended that He might ascend"?

So must you. You must grow downwards, that you may grow upwards, for the sweetest fellowship with heaven is to be had by humble souls, and by them alone.

God will deny no blessing to a thoroughly humbled spirit.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven,"

with all its riches and treasures. The whole treasury of God will be given to the soul who is able to receive it without growing proud because of it.

God blesses us all up to the full measure and extremity of what is safe for Him to do.

If you do not get a blessing, it is because it is not safe for you to have one.

If our heavenly Father were to let your un-humbled spirit win a victory in His holy war, you would pilfer [rob] the crown for yourself, and meeting with a fresh enemy you would fall a victim.

You are kept low for your own safety. When a man is sincerely humble, and never ventures to touch so much as a grain of the praise, there is scarcely any limit to what God will do for him.

Humility makes us ready to be blessed by the God of all grace, and fits us to deal efficiently with our fellow men.

True humility is a flower which will adorn any garden.

This is a sauce with which you may season every dish of life, and you will find an improvement in every case.

Whether it be prayer or praise, whether it be work or suffering,

the genuine salt of humility cannot be used in excess.

Take away from us everything which now might hinder our delighting ourselves in God. May we come to God this day [today] with a supreme joy; may we speak of Him as

“God my exceeding joy; yea, mine own God is He.”

O God give us a sense of property in Thyself. May we come near to Thee, having no doubt and nothing whatsoever that shall spoil the beautiful simplicity of a childlike faith which looks up into the great face of God and saith [says],

“Our Father, which art in heaven.”

A SINNER’S  PRAYER

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

Pray and call on the name of the Lord Jesus. Won’t you?

“Lord Jesus, I’m a sinner. I’m lost and it’s hopeless for me to save myself. Without you and your death on the cross I would spend eternity in Hell.

by Your blood that was shed for me at the cross.

Thank you Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me before I was born and that You have always loved me and will always love me and will never reject or turn your back on me. I know You are the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no one can come to the Father but by You.   Hallelujah!

Thank you, Father that You have made a way for me to see myself as ungodly.  But,  because You are good You have made a way and given me the desire to come to You, to turn away from my sin and to trust in the Lord Jesus.  You have forgiven me because He took my place and You have provided for  me to be born again [born from above, born of the Holy Spirit].
Thank You that You prompted a desire and faith in me to believe in Your only begotten Son who gave up His life and died on the cross to be the sacrifice that would  atone for my sins, and those of the whole world.

Thank You for Your love that allowed Jesus to suffer and die in my place and then You raised Jesus from the dead. He is RISEN and is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave and in Christ Jesus I am free from condemnation. You raised Him from the dead and gave Him a Glorified, [everlasting] physical body and  after he was seen by many witnesses on earth You took Him up to reign with You  in heaven.

Thank you, Father,  for saving me in the name, of Your only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. with a grateful heart.   Thank You for saving me heavenly Father.

Thank You, Spirit of Truth, for the  guidance and instruction you give into all truth.,  Amen.

”Thank You Dear Comforter, Paraclete [one who comes along side]  for new life in Jesus and victory when I recon myself dead indeed unto sin and alive unto God through Christ Jesus our Lord trusting You, Holy Spirit, for the execution of this vow.
Romans 6:11

Thank you, Holy Spirit, that you always give witness to and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 16:8-11

With all my heart, thank you Lord for saving me.

Abide in me Lord Jesus, in Your name I pray, Amen.

The Fanny Crosby Story

https://youtu.be/ceP4fZTVUYA

(Short Movie about the life of Francis Jane (Fanny) Crosby, writer of more than 10,000 Gospel Hymns)

This is the amazing biography of the blind hymn writer, Fanny Crosby. As the writer of more than 10,000 hymns, all penned after the age of 40, she is credited with authoring more verse than any human in history. The tragic mistreatment by a charlatan masquerading as a doctor blinded Fanny shortly after birth. Nevertheless, she learned to function as a sighted child except for her inability to read. She was an extraordinary child filled with joy and mischief! At her grandmother's knee, she began to demonstrate an exceptional memory, and memorized several complete books of the Bible, including Ruth and Proverbs. She left home at age 15 to begin her formal education. One of the most notable pupils of the New York Institute for Special Education, Fanny was also the first woman to address the US Congress. Fulfilling the roles of wife, mother, friend, teacher, nurse to the sick during the cholera epidemic, humanitarian to the poor and disenfranchised, and friend of presidents — Fanny Crosby was an exceptional woman by any standard. And her legacy lives on through the thousands of hymns that are still sung today.

MISSION STATEMENT:

Our aim is to fulfill God’s purpose in the saving of souls, strengthening and encouraging believers in the Word, proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ and serving those in need. We believe the Bible is God’s inspired [God-breathed] Word and that through His Word He guides us as individuals and as local bodies of believers. We are resolved, God helping us, to study, meditate and pray to rightly divide God’s revealed and preserved Word holding it as the final authority in all things.
The purpose of The John Mark Publishing Company is to make known the Gospel of The Lord Jesus Christ to every creature. We desire to show the love of Jesus to all, especially those in the household of faith. The Bible is God’s everlasting, inspired, (God breathed) inerrant, infallible, unchangeable, divinely and providentially protected and preserved infinite WORD.

It is the supreme authority in all things.

The  inspired preaching, teaching and writing  of Charles Haddon Spurgeon was from a steadfast faithfulness toward and a total reliance upon Holy Scripture. His dependence on Scripture for all preaching, teaching and writing is readily seen. The ministry of God’s gospel message continues to thrive today through the legacy of Spurgeon’s Gospel preaching at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London.

We desire to increase the circulation and use of Spurgeon's inspired preaching and writing to the benefit all readers, especially to the Body of Christ.

In this, we offer thanks, praise and all glory to, the infinite, almighty, omnipresent, omniscient, all-wise and everlasting God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, in Jesus name, Amen.

To this end we post  DEVOTIONS for each day

Fidelity is given to Spurgeon’s original and unabridged text.

Spurgeon left a great written legacy of the gospel of Christ Jesus in the English language. His writing continues, from the 1800’s to the present time to be widely read and quoted. He would insist that only his Lord Jesus be honored and glorified in everything that was done Preaching Christ and Him Crucified.

He waspastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, England where he faithfully preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ until he went to be forever with the Lord in A.D. 1892.

: The John Mark Publishing Company is not intended to praise or exalt  the ministry or life of Charles H. Spurgeon. He didn’t want it then, nor does he need it now. The Providentially Preserved and Protected Bible:
The King James Version (KJV), also known as the Authorized Version (AV), is God’s providentially protected, preserved, self-authenticated and immutable Holy Word.

The King James’ word-for-word translation from the primary source manuscripts of the Greek [The received text] and the [Hebrew text] is best. (See below)

The unsurpassed linguistic scholarship, organization and translation methodology from over 59 devout Godly men (including additional participants) from the finest Universities has produced under the protection and guidance of the Holy Spirit the inerrant English translation of theHoly Bible.

Newer translations, however, are based on Westcott and Hort’s Greek translation, rendered from a preferred use of the Alexandrian text type. The Vaticanus and Sinaiticus Greek manuscripts have replacedthe Textus Receptus by promising greater textual authenticity but actually delivering inferior accuracy, strength and depth of word signification and clarity that was often taken and sometimes nuanced from these inferior texts to compromise the strength, meaning and glory due to the original God-breathed Word and the infinite and almighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who Himself, breathed it.

The motivation to acquire and prioritize the Commercialization of Bible publishing must not be allowed to compromise the highest scholarship excellence or  textual fidelity to the best original manuscripts of the God breathed [inspired], inerrant Word of God, forever settled in heaven.

This  has led to the adoption the Hort and Westcott’s texts by modern translators and the uncertainty or nuances that mitigate against full and complete glory that is always due our Sovereign Creator. We revisit, once again, the temptation of the serpent when he duped Eve by asking:   Hath God said?…”

This continues to be Satan’s ever so subtle temptation that we question or doubt God’s WORD. Instead, we must find, the self-authentication from scripture itself.

Rather than question, quibble or debate, we must affirm, trust and obey God’s word by avowing and preaching:

God’s Word, therefore, must be rightly divided, proclaimed, heard, and obeyed.

For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in Heaven.
                 Psalms 119:89

Some have been heard to say:

“God said it, I believe it and that settles it.”

            However, actually, really and truthfully,

“God said it and that settles it.”  He is Sovereign.

God is , but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
1 Corinthians 14:33

The Best English Bible Version   by Steven Houck

Even though the King James Version has [is said to have] its weaknesses, it is an excellent translation and by far the best version available today. We must not be taken in by the modern versions and their claims. Our 400 years old Bible is to be preferred above all others because it is better than them all.

1) It was translated by men who are unsurpassed in their knowledge of Biblical studies.

2) The translators were pious men of God who believed in the inspiration of the Holy Scriptures.

3) It is the mature fruit of generations of English translations as well as the careful work of its translators.
4) The King James Version is based upon the Received Text rather than the critical Greek text of modern versions.
5) It is a word-for-word translation which faithfully and accurately reflects the originals.

6) The language is one of reverence and respect which gives honor [and greater glory] to the majesty of its Author.

7) Of all the English versions of today, it alone is the Bible of the Reformation.

8) Our spiritual forefathers thought so highly of it that they were willing to suffer and even die for it.

9) It is the version which has been recognized for generations and generations as the Bible God has given to His English-speaking Church.

[The tenth reason why it is best has been added here by DailySpurgeon.com]

10) The work of more than 59 translators unsurpassed in their knowledge of Biblical studies were selected and organized into seven companies from Westminster (2), Cambridge (2), Oxford (2), and London (1)  Their work was done openly to receive comments or inquiries during the course of their work. Prayer and discussion continued within each company until all differences were resolved and agreed to without a single objection by any translator.

This Translation is the KJV from the Textus Receptus (TR)  [Received Text]. It is superior to codices Alexandrinus, Sinaiticus or Vaticanus which do not agree with one another in many places,  are created from incomplete codices and have been used in the development of modern criticism that allows ambiguities, uncertainties, variant readings and diverse interpretations that have been brought forth in a multitude of new English translations of the Bible. They contain doctrinal compromises that dumb-down or nuance-away the highest glory that’s always due to the infinite LORD God Omnipotent.  The Textus Receptus is the Greek manuscript source that overwhelmingly reflects the Majority Texts used to translate the Bishop’s Bible and the Authorized King James Bible. The King James Bible [also known as the Authorized Version] has remained the most dominant, widely distributed  and preferred Bible, world-wide for over 400 years and is preserved by God to conveys God’s Truth through God’s original words.
