Saint Valentine’s Day

The King was clear, “No marriages here!
… Cause single men, they have no fear.”
They have no worry, no debts to pay,
They love to fight, most every day.
No married partner by his side,
No wife, no kids, no gorgeous bride.
But God’s dear Word hath set the tone:
“It’s Not so good, that man’s alone.”
It isn’t right! Don’t stand between us!
“Marry Then!” said Valentinus.
By the scores he helped them wed.
In Holy bliss they often said.
Valentinus was arrested,
By his loved one he was tested.
She was blind and could not hear.
His prayer to God, God did hold dear.
Smitten by her love and charms;
He Saved the Jailer from all harms.
The Jailer heard the Savior’s call;
Forever saved him, all-in-all.
When on the path to martyrdom,
He sent his sweet, “Be mine.”
He wrote his name and stated thus:
“I am forever thine.”

[Dear Heavenly Father] Remember every one that calls Thee Father. May a Father’s love look on all the children. May the special need of each one be supplied; the special sorrow of each one be assuaged [eased]. May we be growing Christians, may we be working Christians, may we be perfected Christians, may we come to the fullness of the stature of men in Christ Jesus.

ANECDOTE 218 March 6th CONSCIENCE NEEDS ILLUMINATION.
I do not hesitate to say, that we all unwittingly [without knowing it] allow ourselves [to be] in practices, which clearer light would show to be sins.
Even the best of men, have done this in the past. For instance, John Newton, in his trading for slaves in his early days, never seemed to have felt that there was any wrong in it; and Whitefield in accepting slaves for his orphanage in Georgia, never raised or dreamed of raising the question as to whether slavery was in itself sinful.
Perhaps advancing light will show that many of the habits and customs of our present civilization are essentially bad, and our grandsons will wonder how we could have acted as we did.
It may need centuries before the national conscience, or even the common Christian conscience, will be enlightened up to the true standard of right; and the individual man may need many a chastisement and rebuke from the Lord ere [before] he has fully discerned holiness between good and evil.

This is an excellent reason for casting away all other confidences and relying upon the Lord alone. When a child is left without its natural protector, our God steps in and becomes his guardian: so, also when a man has lost every object of dependence, [everything he depends upon] he may cast himself upon the living God and find in Him all that he needs.
Orphans are cast [thrown] upon the fatherhood of God, and He provides for them. The writer of these pages knows what it is to hang on the bare arm of God, and he [the writer] bears his willing witness that no trust is so well warranted by facts, or so sure to be rewarded by results, as trust in the invisible but ever living God. Some children who have fathers are not much the better off because of them, but the fatherless with God are rich.
Better have God and no other friend than all the patrons on the earth and no God. To be bereaved of the creature [earthly father] is painful, but so long as the Lord remains the fountain of mercy to us, we are not truly orphaned.
Prayer: [Dear Father] Let fatherless children plead the gracious word and let all who have been bereaved [suffered loss] of visible support do the same. Lord, let me find mercy in thee! The more needy and helpless I am, the more confidently do I appeal to thy loving heart.
Thank you, Lord, that -In thee, the fatherless [orphan] findeth [finds] mercy —Thank You that in You there is always mercy to be found in Jesus’ name, Amen.

MORNING March 6th “YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN."—John 3:7

REGENERATION is a subject that lies at the very basis of salvation, and we should be very diligent to take heed that we really are "born again," for there are many who fancy [imagine] they are, who are not.
Be assured that the name of a Christian is not the nature of a Christian; and that being born in a Christian land and being recognized as professing the Christian religion is to no avail whatever, unless there be something more added to it
—the being "born again" by the power of the Holy Spirit.
To be "born again," is a matter so mysterious that human words cannot describe it. "The wind bloweth [blows] where it listeth [wants to], and thou hearest [hear] the sound thereof, but canst [can] not tell whence [from where] it cometh [comes] and whither [where] it goeth [goes]:
so is every one that is born of the [Holy] Spirit."
Nevertheless, it is a change which is known and felt: known by works of holiness, and felt by a gracious experience.
This great work is supernatural.
It is not an operation which a man performs upon himself: [No!]
…a new principle is infused, which works in the heart, renews the soul, and affects the entire man [person] .
It is not a change of my name, but a renewal of my nature, so that I am not the one I used to be, but a new person in Christ Jesus.
To wash and dress a corpse [dead body] is a far different thing from making it alive: man can do the one, God alone can do the other.
If you have then, been "born again," your acknowledgment will be,
“O Lord Jesus, the everlasting Father, You are my spiritual Parent;
unless Your Spirit had breathed into me the breath of a new, holy, and spiritual life, I had been [I would be] to this day 'dead in trespasses and sins.' My heavenly life is wholly derived [comes completely] from You, [and] to You I ascribe [attribute and dedicate] it.
'My life is hid with Christ in God.'
It is no longer I who live,
…but [Jesus] Christ who lives in me."
May the Lord enable us to be well assured on this vital point, for
to be unregenerate is to be unsaved, unpardoned, without God, and without hope.

EVENING March 6th "BEFORE DESTRUCTION, THE HEART OF MAN IS *HAUGHTY." —Proverbs 18:12

IT is an old and common saying, that
"coming events cast their shadows before them."
The wise man teaches us that a *haughty heart is the prophetic prelude of evil. Pride [in a person] is as safely the sign of destruction as the change of mercury in the weatherglass [barometer] is the sign of rain; and far more infallibly so than that.
When men have ridden the high horse, destruction has always overtaken them. Let [King] David's aching heart show that there is an eclipse of a man's glory when he doats [brags] upon his own greatness. (2 Samuel 24:10).
See Nebuchadnezzar, the mighty builder of Babylon, creeping on the earth [crawling on the ground], devouring [eating] grass like oxen, until his [finger] nails had grown like bird's claws, and his hair like eagle's feathers
(Dan. 4:33).
Pride made the boaster [the bragging one] a beast, as once before it made an angel [into] a devil. God hates high looks, [a conceited nose in the air] and never fails to bring them down.
All the arrows of God are aimed at proud hearts.
0 Christian, is your heart *haughty this evening? For pride can get into the Christian's heart as well as into the sinner's; it can delude him into dreaming that he is
"rich and increased in goods, and has need of nothing."
Are you glorying in your graces or your talents? Are you proud of yourself, that you have had holy frames [moments] and sweet experiences?
Mark you, [take note] reader, there is a destruction coming to you also. Your [bragging about and] flaunting poppies [flowers] of self-conceit will be pulled up by the roots, your mushroom graces will wither in the burning heat, and your self-sufficiency will become as straw for the dunghill [absorbing the filth where excrement is dumped].
If we forget to live at the foot of the cross in deepest lowliness of spirit, God will not forget to make us smart [punish us] under His rod [instrument of discipline].
A destruction will come to you, 0 unduly exalted believer, the destruction of your joys and of your comforts, though there can be no destruction of your soul.
Wherefore,
"He that glorieth, [glories] let him glory in the Lord."

I know that me doing my best or being good (in my own opinion) and justifying my own behavior as "good" or "OK" will never save me.
I look to You, alone Lord Jesus to save me.
I come to You right now. Lord Jesus. Please save me. I believe You died on the cross in my place to pay for my sin debt and put to death my sin nature. I know You always keep your word. Please save me. You say and it’s written in the Bible that you won’t reject anyone who comes to You. I'm coming to You now. Thank You for saving me.
I give myself (all of myself) to You, Lord Jesus. I declare that You are my Savior and Lord. I’m sorry for and I turn away from every sin (every bad thought, every bad word I have spoken and every bad thing I have ever done) and look to You free me from the penalty of sin, to keep me free from the power of sin and empower me overcome any temptation from sin’s presence. Thank you for forgiving all of my sins by dying on the cross to pay the punishment that I deserve. (I was a sinner by nature and by behavior). But now I'm washed clean by Your blood that was shed [poured out] for me at Calvary [at the cross].
Thank you Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me before I was born and that You love me now and will always love me and will never reject or turn your back on me. I know You are the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no one can come to the Father other than by You.
Thank you Father that You have made a way for me to see myself as ungodly. But, because You are good You have made a way and given me the desire to come to You, to turn away from my sin and to trust in the Lord Jesus. You have forgiven me because He took my place and You have provided for me to be born again [born from above, born of the Holy Spirit].
You prompted this desire and faith to believe in Your only begotten Son who,gave up His life and died on the cross to pay my sin debt, not mine alone, but the sins of the whole world.
Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave and in Christ Jesus there is no condemnation. After You raised Him from the dead You gave Him a Glorified, [everlasting] physical body and after he was seen by many witnesses on earth You took Him up to reign with You in heaven.
I pray this in the name, of Your only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ with a grateful heart. Thank You for saving me heavenly Father and for sending the Comforter, The Spirit of Truth, for my guidance and solemn instruction into all truth., Amen.”
Thank You Holy Spirit of Truth, The Comforter, The Paraclete [true friend who is by your side and always has your back] for the new life in Jesus and the victory that comes when I recon myself dead indeed unto sin and alive unto God through Christ Jesus our Lord trusting You, Holy Spirit for Your empowerment to see this promise fulfilled. Romans 6:11
Thank you that you, Holy Spirit, always exalt [lift up] the Lord Jesus. John 16:8-11
With all my heart, I thank you Lord Jesus for saving me.
