Should  DAILYSPURGEON  be trusted? Is it trustworthy?

Is it of God?

Yes! Here’s why.

 

1 John 4:1-3

Beloved ones, don’t be believing every spirit [everyone or !everything] you hear but be testing the spirit [voice] whether it is of God: because many false prophets have gone [come] out into the world. Here’s how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit [voice] that confesses [avows] that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh, having come[who came] out of God, is of God: and every spirit that confesses not [doesn’t audibly avow] that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

 I hereby confess, audibly,  that Jesus Christ is come   [is here] in the flesh.

 

[All translations of the Bible that use any Greek text other than the traditional and faithful Textus Receptus ignore the word “ictin” [the Greek word for “is” in English].  This omission causes the meaning of “is here” to  change from “is come” [is here] to “has come”.

 

This error is self-evident because non-believers, false prophets and heretics can, and frequently do, declare that Jesus Christ “has come” [in the flesh].

 

While this is a true statement, taken at face value, the  meaning  “has come” is clearly not the same as “is here” ; which is the valid, test to  discern between the Spirit of God and the spirit of antichrist.  

The most well documented fact in all of human history is that the Lord Jesus Christ [The Messiah]  “has come” in the flesh. However, the question of greater importance,  is not whether the spirit [of a word or from a person] being considered and tested confesses that Jesus Christ “has come” in the flesh but, whether the confession being made affirms that Jesus Christ, “is come” [is here], from God, in the flesh.

 

Ephesians 5:30-32

30 for we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

32 This is a great mystery: but I [The Apostle Paul]  speak concerning Christ and the church.  [The body of CHRIST]

Compare and consider scripture to scripture:  Precept upon precept, Line upon line.

 

“I speak concerning Christ and the church.” [the fleshly embodiment, here and now ,  of the body of Christ]. Because  followers of Jesus Christ are members of the incarnate Body of Christ [The Church]

PRAYER 15, Part 1 of 9 November 8th 

THE PEACE OF GOD.

      OUR God, [Father in Heaven] we stand not afar off [not far away] as Israel did in Sinai, nor does a veil hang dark between Thy [Your] face and ours; but the veil is rent [ripped open] by the death of our Divine Lord and Mediator, Jesus Christ, and in His name we come up to the mercy seat all blood besprinkled, and here we present our prayers and our praises accepted in Him.

 

We do confess that we are guilty; we bow our heads and confess that we have broken Thy [Your] law and the covenant [sacred promise] of which it is a part. Didst Thou deal [had You dealt] with us under the covenant of works none of us could stand [satisfy it]. We must confess that we deserve Thy wrath [anger] and to be banished for ever from Thy [Your] presence. But Thou hast [You have] made a new covenant, [promise] and we come under its divine shadow; we come in the name of Jesus [the Christ, the Messiah].

 

He is our High Priest; He is our righteousness; He is the well-beloved in whom Thou art [You are] well pleased.  Holy Spirit, teach us how to pray. Let us know what we should pray for as we ought [should].

 

Our first prayer is:

Be Thou [That you be]  adored;

reign Thou [That You reign] over the whole earth;

hallowed be Thy name [That Your name be regarded as Holy].

We desire to see all men submit themselves to Thy [Your] gracious government [authority].

We wish especially that in the hearts of Thine [Your] own,  there may be an intense love for Thee [You] and a perfect obedience to Thee [You].

ANECDOTE 99:  November 8th  A Worldly Christian.
No man can serve God and mammon [love of money] because there is not enough life in the heart to serve the two.

 

Alas! [Oh my!] many people try this, and they fail both ways. I have known a man who has tried to let some of his heart run into the world, and another part he allowed to drip into the church, and the effect has been this: When he came into the church he was suspected of hypocrisy. “ Why,” they said, “if he were truly with us, could he have done yesterday what he did, and then come and profess so much to-day ?”  The church looks upon him as a suspicious one: or if he deceives them they feel he is not of much use to them, because they have not got all his heart. What is the effect of his conduct in the world? 

 

Why, [well] his religion is a fetter  [hand cuff] to him there.  The world will not have him, and the church will not have him; he wants to go between the two, and both despise him.

 

I never saw anybody try to walk on both sides of the street but a drunken man: he tried it, and it was very awkward work indeed; but I have seen many people in a moral point of view try to walk on both sides of the street, and I thought there was some kind of intoxication in them, or else they would have given it up as a very foolish thing.

 

 Now, if I thought the world and the pleasures thereof worth my seeking, I would just seek them and go after them, and I would not pretend to be religious; but if [because] Christ be Christ, and if [because] God be God, let us give our whole heart to him, and not go shares [share our heart] with the world.

THE MAGNITUDE OF GRACE
 

-My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness
- 2 Corinthians12:9

Our weakness should be prized [desired] as making room for divine [heavenly] strength. We might never have known the power of grace if we had not felt the weakness of [our] nature.

 

Blessed be the Lord for the thorn in the flesh [troubles and trials], and the messenger of Satan, when they drive us to the strength of God.  This is a precious word from our Lord’s own lip. It has made the writer laugh for joy.

 

God’s grace [is] enough for me! I should think it is. Is not the sky enough for the bird, and the ocean enough for the fish? The All-Sufficient is sufficient for my largest want. He who is sufficient for earth and Heaven is certainly able to meet the case of one poor worm like me. 

 

Let us, then, fall back upon our God and His grace. If He does not remove our grief He will enable us to bear it. His strength shall be poured into us till the worm shall thresh [gain benefit from] the mountains; and a nothing [nobody] shall be victor over all the high and mighty ones.

 

It is better for us to have God’s strength than our own; for if we were a thousand times as strong as we are, it would all amount to nothing in the face of the enemy; and if we could be weaker than we are, which is scarcely possible, yet we could do all things through [Jesus] Christ.

Prayer: Thank You Lord that  your grace is sufficient for me. Thank You that your strength is made perfect in [my] weakness. Help me to depend upon You in every circumstance.  I pray this in Your name, Lord Jesus, Amen.

MORNING November 8th 

"As ye have received Christ Jesus the Lord. "Colossians 2:6

       THE life of faith is represented as receiving—an act which implies the very opposite of anything like merit [something earned or deserved]. It is simply the acceptance of a gift. As the earth drinks in the rain, as the sea receives the streams, as night accepts light from the stars, so we, giving noth­ing, partake freely of the grace of God.

 

The saints are not, by nature, wells or streams; they are but cisterns [water tanks] into which the living water flows; they are empty vessels into which God pours His salvation. The idea of receiv­ing implies a sense of realization, making the matter a reality. One cannot very well receive a shadow; we re­ceive that which is substantial: so is it in the life of faith, Christ becomes real to us.

 

While we are without faith, Jesus is a mere [just a] name to us—a person who lived a long while ago, so long ago that His life is only a history to us now!

 

By an act of faith Jesus becomes a real per­son in the consciousness of our heart. But receiving also means grasping or getting possession of. The thing which I receive becomes my own: I appropriate to myself that which is given.

 

When I receive Jesus  [Christ] He becomes my Savior and so much mine that neither life nor death shall be able to rob me of Him. All this is to receive Christ: to take Him as God's free gift, to realize Him in my heart, and to appropriate  [take possession of] Him as mine.
     

 

Salvation may be described as the blind receiving sight, the deaf receiving hearing, the dead receiving life; but we have not received only these blessings, we have received Christ Jesus Himself.

 

It is true that He gave us life from the dead; He gave us pardon of sin; He gave us imputed righteousness. These are all precious things, but we are not content with them; we have received Christ Himself. The Son of God has been poured into us, and we have received Him and appropriated  [possessed] Him. 

 

What a *heart-full Jesus must be, for heaven itself cannot contain Him!

       AT the time of the Passover,  Jerusalem was one great inn. [Lodging was provided by everyone that could]  Each householder  [head of household] had invited his own friends, but no one had invited the Savior  [the Lord Jesus], and He had no dwelling of His own. It was by His own supernatural power that He found Himself an upper room in which to keep the feast. It is so even to this day.

 

Jesus is not received among the sons of men save  [except] only where by His supernatural power and grace He makes the heart anew [gives a new born-again life].  All doors are open enough to the prince of dark­ness, but Jesus must clear a way for Himself or lodge in the streets.

 

It was through the mysterious power exerted by our Lord that the householder raised no question, but at once cheerfully and joyfully opened his guest-chamber [guest room]. Who he was and what he was, we do not know, but he readily accepted the honor the Redeemer proposed to confer on him.

 

In like manner it is still discovered who are the Lord's chosen and who are not; for when the gospel comes to some, they fight against it and will not have it, but where men receive it, welcom­ing it, this is a sure indication that there is a secret work going on in the soul and that God has chosen them for eternal life.

 

Are you willing, dear reader, to receive Christ? Then there is no difficulty in the way. Christ will be your guest; His own power is working with you, making you willing. What an honor to entertain  [to host] the Son of God! The heaven of heavens cannot contain Him, and yet He condescends [lowers himself]  to find a house within our hearts!

 

We are not worthy that He should come under our roof, but what an unutterable [unspeakable] privilege when He condescends [chooses] to enter! For then He makes a feast and causes us to feast with Him on royal dainties; we sit at a banquet where the viands [foods] are immortal and give im­mortality to those who feed thereon.  

 

Blessed among the sons of Adam is he who entertains the angels' LORD 

 [The Lord of all, the Lord Jesus Christ.]

A  SINNER’S   PRAYER:  

    Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

    Pray and call on the name of the Lord Jesus.

 

Pray like this, won’t you? :  

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner hopeless without You.  I will never be able to save myself. Without your death on the cross to pay my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned in Hell. By nature  and  practice I am a sinner. I’m  totally depraved and  I sin because I am a sinner. Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best or being as good as possible, or being better than other people or having good excuses can never save me.
I look to You, alone  Lord Jesus to save me.
I call on You,  by name,  Lord Jesus, right now to save me.  You died on the cross in my place to pay  for my sin. Your Word says,  “It shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21. Thank You, Lord.

 

     Right now, I surrender my sinful self  to You,  just as I am, Lord Jesus. I trust You to forgive me and save me and be my Lord and Savior.
Please forgive me for all my sins. I’m sorry for every sin (bad thoughts, words and things I have done) and look to You to forgive me of them all.  I need your strength to overcome sin’s temptations. Thank you for forgiving me.
You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross. 

    Thank you Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me before I was born and that You love me still.
 

    Thank you Heavenly Father that You have made the way  of  redemption, forgiveness and  atonement for me  and have drawn me away from sin and death into Life  in Your only begotten son.  He took  my place and suffered my punishment.

 

     Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave. In Christ Jesus there is therefore now no condemnation.
 

     Thank You for saving me heavenly Father and for sending the Holy Spirit for my guidance, comfort  and solemn instruction into all truth,  Amen.”

    With all my heart, I thank you Lord Jesus for saving me. In your name, Lord Jesus I pray, Amen.

 

 

 

     Please allow us to rejoice over your new birth in the presence of angels in heaven who rejoice over one sinner that repents. Luke 15:10

"Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me [Spurgeon's comment] of Mr. Bunyan’s picture of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melody] , for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.

Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven. Oh for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus; it is our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.

The  inspirational source of  preaching, teaching and writing  by Charles Haddon Spurgeon is from this same essence.  His writings continue to be  much read and much used today in the  support of Gospel preaching. Such ministry is still flourishing  in London at  the Metropolitan Tabernacle,  the church constructed for the 6,000 member congregation in the 1800's. Our effort here is to increase  the publication, circulation and use of Spurgeon's materials for the benefit of the church body as well as all other readers.  To this end we have arranged a daily Table of Contents and have added brief annotations [shown in brackets]  while maintaining a strict fidelity to Spurgeon’s original and unabridged text.
