DAILY SPURGEON  and DEVOTION for October 8th   2025

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN MICHAEL

_________________________________________________

Note: The New King James Version NKJV and all versions  NOT  translated from  the Textus Receptus [Received Text] are  inferior to the  translation of the  1769 [1611] known as the Authorized Version AV and the  King James Version, KJV. The Geneva Bible is also translated from the Greek Textus Receptus.

Only the Textus Receptus [Received Text] is sustained by the more than 5,321 Majority Greek Text MT Manuscripts and  are in agreement with one another 99% . ALL OTHER readings have as their primary Greek source either Westcott and Hort’s or Nestle and Aland’s, Greek Texts  fabricated from only a handful [45] of Majority Text Manuscripts and  lack the  trustworthiness produced in  the inspired 1769 [1611] King James Version, KJV and the Geneva Bibles; the only two translated from the reliable, inspired  and divinely protected Textus Receptus.

The Bridge to Babylon video presents historical evidence that accounts for the explosion of over 100 different  English version translations  of the Bible. The continuing attempts to replace, add or take away from the 1769 King James Version of the Holy Bible can not  prevail because GOD Himself preserves and protects His inspired Holy Words

from all heresy, blasphemy, confusion , error additions, subtractions and changes.

 It abbreviates Anno Domini;

Is the website DAILYSPURGEON  trustworthy?

Is it of God?

1 John 4:1-3

Beloved ones, don’t be believing every spirit [everyone or everything] you hear but be testing the spirit [voice] whether it is of God: because many false prophets have gone [come] out into the world. Here’s how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit [voice] that confesses [avows] that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh, having come[who came] out of God, is of God: and every spirit that confesses not [doesn’t audibly avow] that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

I hereby confess  that Jesus Christ is come   [is here] in the flesh.

[All translations of the Bible that use a Greek text other than the traditional and reliable Textus Receptus ignore the word “ictin” (the Greek word that means “is” in English).  This omission causes “is here” to  change its  meaning from “is come” [is here] to “has come”.

This error is self-evident as non-believers, false prophets and even heretics can, and frequently  do, declare that He “has come” [in the flesh.

While this is a true statement when taken at face value, the  meaning  “has come” is clearly not the same as “is here”; the valid test to discern between the Spirit of God and the spirit of antichrist.

The most well documented fact in all of  recorded human history is that Jesus Christ [Messiah]  “has come” in the flesh. The essential question, however, is not whether the spirit [words or person] being tested confesses that Jesus Christ “has come” in the flesh but, whether Jesus Christ, “is here”, [present tense] (NOW) from God, in the flesh.

Ephesians 5:30-32

30 for we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32

This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Compare, here, scripture with scripture: “I speak concerning Christ and the church.” [the fleshly embodiment, here, of the body of Christ].

The Lord Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh, 1 John 4:2-4

He’s  alive  today, has existed from the beginning as God’s eternal Word,
and He’s returning soon for his bride, the Church.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit,
believed on in the world, received up into glory.  1 Timothy  3:16

Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of the earth:
for I am God and there is none else.   Isaiah 45:22

It is Latin for Anno Domini,  a  phrase adopted into English usage that means  “Year of [the/our] Lord”.  The complete  original phrase "anno Domini nostri Jesu Christi" means "in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ”. DAILY SPURGEON and DEVOTION for October 8th

Written and calendared by  Charles Haddon Spurgeon

SERMON: October 8th  from Spurgeon’s Metropolitan Tabernacle  (London)

Is it Sickness or Sin?    Isaiah  57:18    with Dr. Peter Masters

According to the Bible morally evil behavior is both. People sin knowingly and wilfully, and this turns into a disease, but one for which they remain responsible, because God's forgiveness and re-making is freely available. Here are the facts about conversion to the Lord.

PRAYER 11, Part 9 of 10 October 8th UNDER THE BLOOD
O Lord take sinners in hand thyself. Oh! come and reach obstinate, obdurate [stubborn] minds; let the careless and the frivolous begin to think upon eternal things. may there be an uneasiness of heart, a sticking of the arrows of God in their loins [sides], and may they seek too the great physician and find healing this very day. [In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ] Amen. (Complete Prayer attached with e-mail as: PRAYER 11.doc)

ANECDOTE 67:   October 8th       Christ ,  The Sinner’s Only Physician.

Suppose that a man has heard of a great physician who understands his complaint. Ha has traveled a great many miles to see this celebrated doctor; but when he gets to the door they tell him that he is out. “Well,” says he,“ then I must wait till he is in.”  “You need not wait,” they reply, “his assistant is at home.” The suffering man, who has been often disappointed, answers, “I do not care about his assistant, I want to see the man himself: mine is a desperate case, but I have heard that this physician has cured the like; I must, therefore, see him. No assistants for me.”

“Well,” say they, “he is out; but there are his books ; you can see his books.”

“ Thank you,” he says,  “I cannot be content with his books, I want the living man and nothing less. It is to him that I must speak, and from him I will receive instructions”. “Do you see that cabinet?” “Yes”.“ It is full of his medicines”. The sick man answers, “I dare say they are very good, but they are of no use to me without the doctor: I want their owner to prescribe for me, or I shall die of my disease.” “ But see, ”; cries one, “here is a person who has been cured by him, a man of great experience, who has been present at many remarkable operations. Go into the inquiry-room with him, and he will tell you all about the mode of cure”.The afflicted man answers,

“I am much obliged to you, but all your talk only makes me long the more to see the doctor. I came to see him, and I am not going to be put off with anything else. I must see the man himself, for myself. He has made my disease a specialty; he knows how to handle my case, and I will stop till I see him.”

Now, dear friends, if you are seeking Christ, imitate this sick man, or else you may be sure you will miss the mark [your objective] altogether.

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK     October 8th   NEVER ALONE
“Thou shalt no more be termed [called] Forsaken” —Isaiah 62:4

…Forsaken… is a dreary word. It sounds like a knell [a sound of a bell rung slowly for a death or a funeral].  It is the record of sharpest sorrows, and the prophecy of direst ills. An abyss of misery yawns in that word …Forsaken…. Forsaken by one who pledged his honor! Forsaken by a friend so long tried and trusted! Forsaken by a dear relative! Forsaken by father and mother! Forsaken by all! This is woe indeed, and yet it may be patiently borne if the Lord will take us up.

But what must it be to feel forsaken of God? Think of that bitterest of cries, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Have we ever in any degree tasted the wormwood and the gall of  “Forsaken,” in that sense? If so, let us beseech [plead earnestly to] our Lord to save us from any repetition of so unspeakable a sorrow. Oh, that such darkness may never return! Men in malice [desiring harm] said of a saint, “God hath forsaken him; persecute and take him.” But it was always false. [It still is.] The Lord’s loving favor shall compel our cruel foes to eat their own words, or, at least, to hold their tongues.

The reverse of all this is that superlative word, Hephzibah …

[It means:] “the Lord delighteth [delights] in thee.”

This turns weeping into dancing. Let those who dreamed that they were forsaken hear the Lord say, …I will never leave thee nor forsake thee….

MORNING October 8th
"Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. "—Luke 5:4
—Tira á alta mar y y echad vuestra redes para pescar— Lucas 5:4

WE learn from this narrative, the necessity of human agency. The catch of fishes was miraculous, yet neither the fisherman nor his boat, nor his fishing tackle were ignored; but all were used to take the fishes.

[Even] So in the saving of souls, God works by means; and while the present economy of grace shall stand,  God will be pleased by the foolishness of preaching [Not Foolish Preaching] to save them that believe.

When God works without instruments, doubtless He is glorified; but He has Himself selected the plan of instrumentality as being that by which He is most magnified in the earth.

Means of themselves are utterly unavailing. "Master, we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing." What was the reason of this? Were they not fishermen plying their special calling? Verily, they were no raw hands [rookies]; they understood the work. Had they gone about the toil unskillfully? No. Had they lacked industry? No, they had toiled [worked really hard]. Had they lacked perseverance [did they give up]?  No, they had toiled all the night. Was there a deficiency of fish in the sea? Certainly not, for as soon as the Master came, they swam to the net in shoals [schools]. What, then, is the reason?

Is it because there is no power in the means of themselves apart from the presence of Jesus? "Without Him we can do nothing." But with Christ we can do all things. Christ's presence confers success. Jesus sat in Peter's boat, and His [Jesus’s will, by a mysterious influence, drew the fish to the net. When Jesus is lifted up in His Church, His presence is the Church's power—the shout of a king is in the midst of her. "I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men unto me." Let us go out this morning on our work of soul fishing, looking up in faith, and around us in solemn anxiety. Let us toil till night comes, and we shall not labor in vain, for He who bids [asks] us let down the net will fill it with fishes [believers].

 EVENING October 8th

"Praying in the Holy Ghost. "— Jude 20
—Orando por el Espíritu Santo.— Judas 20

MARK the grand characteristic of true prayer—

"In the Holy Ghost. "

The seed of acceptable devotion must come from heaven's storehouse.   Only the prayer which comes from God can go to God. We must shoot the Lord's arrows back to Him. That desire which He writes upon our heart will move His heart and bring down a blessing, but the desires of the flesh have no power with Him.
Praying in the Holy Ghost is praying in fervency. Cold prayers ask the Lord not to hear them. Those who do not plead with fervency, plead not at all. It is as well to speak of lukewarm fire as of lukewarm prayer—it is essential that it be red hot. It is praying  perseveringly. [never giving up] The true suppliant  [effective prayer warrior]  gathers force as he proceeds, and grows more fervent when God delays to answer. The longer the gate is closed, the more vehemently does he use the knocker, and the longer the angel lingers [waits] the more resolved is he that he will never let him go without the blessing. Beautiful in God's sight is tearful, agonizing, unconquerable importunity. It means praying  humbly, for the Holy Spirit never puffs us up with pride.

It's His office [The Holy Spirit’s mission] to convince of sin, and so to bow us down in contrition [deep sorrow] and brokenness of spirit. We shall never sing Gloria in excelsis except we pray to God De profundis: out of the depths must we cry, or we shall never behold glory in the highest. It is loving prayer. Prayer should be perfumed with love, saturated with love—love to our fellow saints and love to Christ.   Moreover, it must be a prayer full of faith.

A man prevails only as he believes. The Holy Spirit is the author of faith, and strengthens it, so that we pray believing God's promise. 0 that this blessed combination of excellent graces, priceless and sweet as the spices of the merchant, might be fragrant within us because the Holy Ghost is in our hearts!

Most blessed Comforter, exert Your mighty power within us, helping our infirmities [weaknesses] in prayer.

MISSION STATEMENT
Our solemn  aim is to trust and obey the Lord Jesus in everything. This  relies completely upon God to achieve His purpose for us through His means. We purpose, with God’s empowerment and  help,  to save the lost, comfort, strengthen and encourage believers, and  rightly divide God’s Word to proclaim the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ to every creature.

The Holy Bible is God’s eternal, inerrant, infallible, immutable revealed and divinely preserved Word.  It is His supernatural, complete scripture  of all revealed truth.  He brings guidance through it to us personally and to each local body of Christian believers. With God’s empowerment, we will read, study, meditate-on, trust-in  and obey God’s Holy Bible and encourage others to do the same. We hold it to be the supreme authority and the preeminent and divinely established Stare Decisis [Latin: to stand by that which is decided, the legal principle of precedence,   literally "to stand by decided matters"] in all things.

Therefore, the purpose of The John Mark Publishing Company is to publish the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every creature. And, to serve all, in love, especially those in the household of faith. We are compelled by this purpose to follow, and rightly proclaim, God’s Holy Word, the Bible as God’s divinely preserved truth and the foundational authority of this ministry.

The Metropolitan Tabernacle:
The  inspired preaching, teaching, soul winning and writings of Charles Haddon Spurgeon were solely based, empowered and inspired by God’s Holy Word the Bible.  His written sermons and devotional messages continue to benefit today’s readers through authentic  Gospel preaching and sound biblical teaching. His ministry continues to flourish from the original (Spurgeon’s)  Metropolitan Tabernacle a church congregation began in 1650.  The present  building was constructed in 1861 and rebuilt after the destruction during the second world war.

Mission Aim:     Spurgeon's sermons and devotional messages have edified the church body and have been a great benefit, to all readers for many years.  We pray they will be useful to strengthen personal discipleship in every believer and to spread the Gospel [Good news] of Jesus Christ, the Messiah to every person.

The Gospel in brief:

  • God is infinitively Holy and good. (He is the God of all grace.  He is not willing that any should perish)

  • Man is bad. (Totally depraved and lost)

  • God made provision (Through the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ to save each lost one who will come)  Whosoever will [whoever wants to] may come means you.  After you come, you will see that you were saved before the foundation of the world)

Soul Winning will continue to be  the preeminent goal of this ministry.  Charles Spurgeon  is the beloved venerable former-pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle  Click/Tap to live-stream the preaching service each Sunday (3:00 am Pacific Time) with Dr. Peter Masters, Metropolitan Tabernacle pastor since 1960 in London that still thrives today.
Gospel Preaching and Worship must be uncompromised by worldly instrumentalities and adhere to Reformed Baptist theology.

Prayer: Dear Lord, use any and all means you choose to save souls. Empower us to serve and minister to the lost and those in need, especially those in the household of faith. Revive, encourage, strengthen, and edify us to  follow you. Help us to  share You, your lovingkindness, and the Gospel of your salvation.  May we be fervent in our faith and fast according to your will and may your church thrive in soul winning, and in all things as we follow You.

We offer ourselves with gratitude for your sacrifice at calvary, given to provide eternal salvation for all who believe. Accept our thanks for these and all other blessing we humbly ask in your name, Amen.

Disclaimer: The John Mark Publishing Company does not solicit the praise of  Charles H. Spurgeon or his writing or preaching.  He didn’t need it or want it then and wouldn’t want it now.  Our aim is to lift up and glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and to preach HIM only and Him crucified.

Precaution: These Messages and prayers can not substitute for continual fellowship with the Lord Jesus. Neither do they replace personal reading, meditation, prayer and fasting over God's divinely preserved and eternal Word or the gathering together with the body of local believers.

The Authorized King James Bible (AKJV), known also as the Authorized Version (AV), is the preferred English Bible because its accuracy and fidelity to the Greek Textus Receptus [received text] and the Hebrew Masoretic Text)  avoids doctrinal error, ungrounded nuances, editorial notes or unsupportable readings 4efrom other codices.  It is distinguished further by the requirement of Great Britain that all King James bibles be printed only by the Cambridge University Press, the Crown’s authorized printer. By order of the Crown, no other printing of a King James Bible may be imported into or copied in Great Britain.

Printed Prayer: The printed prayer should not substitute for personal, fervent, effectual, heart-felt, prayer. It is, rather, to warm the hearts of those presently seeking a season of fervent, authentic two-way, heart-to-heart  fellowship and prayer with the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Revelation from God during  prayer is never in conflict with His revealed Word, the Bible.

Preaching Preparation:  If you would like to review a Spurgeon sermon parallel to biblical texts you may be preparing to teach or preach, please let us know the scripture reference and topic. We will research and send you a  selection with the same scripture reference or the  most closely related topic from Spurgeon’s work. It is our joy to make this available asking only that you give proper authorship credit. [Honor to whom honor is due…]  Thank you.

My Prayer: Dear Father,  please touch, lift up, encourage and teach all who read this.  Bless all who minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May Your blessing and holy anointing fall fresh and continually upon each one who rightly divides and proclaims Your Word. Please save many souls;  all glory to You. I pray this in the name of our only Redeemer, The Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

A SINNER’S PRAYER  (FOR WHOSOEVER):

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

Pray and call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved   … won’t you?

(Pray wholeheartedly  like this)

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner hopeless without You.  I would never be able to save myself. Without your death on the cross to pay my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned in Hell. By nature  and  practice I am a natural-born sinner. I’m  totally depraved and  I sin because I am a sinner. Please forgive me.0

I realize that doing my best or being as good as possible, or being better than other people or having good excuses can never save me.
I look to You, alone  Lord Jesus to save me and I call on You right now to save me.  You died on the cross in my place to pay  for my sin. Your Word says,  “It shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21. Thank You, Lord.

Right now, Lord Jesus, I come to You,  just as I am.   I’m trusting You to forgive me and save me. I look to you  as my Lord and Savior.
Please forgive me of all my sins. I’m sorry for each one. Without You, I am lost. Thank you, Lord,  for saving me.  You paid the price, in full,  for all of my sins and the sins of the whole world once for all by suffering and dying on the cross.
Thank You that You loved me and died for me.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for saving me.  Thank You that You  brought me to see Your love for me and that the wages of sin is death but eternal life is mine through the Lord Jesus Christ who suffered and died as the sacrifice  Lamb of God.

Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead victorious over sin, death and the grave and that in Him I am now eternally born again.

I believe that You have saved me and will guide, comfort and instruct me by the Holy Spirit into all truth and that You will conform me to the image of Your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord.

In His name I pray, Amen.

Please let us to celebrate your new birth with you and the angels in heaven  that rejoice in the redemption of each sinner who comes to the Lord Jesus.  Write us, won’t you?
