PRAYER 25, Part 1 of 10 July 7th
THE WASHING OF WATER BY THE WORD.
JEHOVAH, our God, Thou lovest Thy people, Thou hast placed all the saints in the hand of Jesus, and Thou hast given Jesus to be to them a leader, a commander and a husband; and we know that Thou delightest to hear us cry on the behalf of Thy Church for Thou carest for Him, [Jesus Christ] and Thou art ready to grant to Him according to the covenant provisions which Thou hast laid up in store for Christ Jesus.
Therefore we would begin this prayer by entreating Thee to behold and visit the vine and the vineyard which Thy right hand hath planted. Look upon Zion the city of our solemnities has] redeemed with blood, whose hearts He has won and holds, and who are His own though they be in the world.
Holy Father, keep Thy people, we beseech [implore] Thee, for Jesus’ sake Though they [we] are in the world let them [us] not be of it, but may there be a marked distinction between them [us] and the rest of mankind.
[I ask this dear Lord in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.]

ANECDOTE 335: A Preacher Converted.
You remember Rowland Hill’s Story in “The Village Dialogues,” about Mr. Merriman. Mr. Merriman was a sad scapegrace of a preacher; and was to be seen at every fair and revel [party], and used seldom to be found in his pulpit when he should have been. But when by God’s Grace, he was converted, he began to preach with tears running down his face!
The Church soon became crowded, but the squire [Mayor] would not go [to church]—he even locked up his pew [designated seats].
So, Mr. Merriman had a little ladder made outside the door [of the Mayor’s pew] , as he did not wish to break it [the pew] open, and the people used to sit on the steps, up one side and down the other, so that there was twice as much room as there was before! ________________________________________

A MOUNTAIN CHOIR

So sweet are the comforts of the Lord, that not only the saints themselves may sing of them, but even the Heavens and the earth may take up the song. It takes something to make a mountain sing; and yet the prophet summons quite a choir of them. Lebanon, and Sirion, and the high hills of Bashan and Moab, He would set them all singing because of Jehovah’s grace to His own Zion.
May we not also make mountains of difficulty, and trial, and mystery, and labor [to] become occasions for praise unto our God? -Break forth into singing, O mountains! -This word of promise, that our God will have mercy upon His afflicted, has a whole peal [much ringing] of bells connected with it.
Hear their music -Sing!- -Be joyful!- -Break forth into singing.- The Lord would have His people happy because of His unfailing love. He would not have us sad and doubtful; He claims from us the worship of believing hearts. He cannot fail us: why should we sigh or sulk as if He would do so? Oh for a well-tuned harp! Oh for voices like those of the cherubim before the throne!
Prayer: Thank You Father, that even the heavens will sing and the earth will be joyful and the mountains will break forth into singing because You have comforted Your people , and will have mercy upon Your afflicted. … in Your name, Lord Jesus, Amen.

MORNING July 7th
"Brethren, pray for us. "—1 Thessalonians 5:25

THIS one morning in the year we have reserved to refresh the reader's memory upon the subject of prayer for ministers [pastors] , and we do most earnestly implore every Christian household to grant the fervent request of the text first uttered by an apostle and now repeated by us. Brethren, our work is solemnly momentous, involving well-being or woe to thousands; we treat [work] with souls for God on eternal business, and our word is either a savor of life unto life, or of death unto death. A very heavy responsibility rests on us, and it will be no small mercy if at the last we be found clear of the blood of all men. As officers in Christ's army, we are the especial mark [target] of the enmity of men and devils; they watch for our halting, and labor to take us by the heels. [trip us up] Our sacred calling involves us in temptations from which you are exempt, above all it too often draws us away from our personal enjoyment of truth into a ministerial and official consideration of it.
We meet with many knotty cases and are in a nonplus [perplexed]; we observe very sad backslidings and our hearts are wounded; we see millions perishing and our spirits sink. We wish to profit you by our preaching; we desire to be blessed to your children; we long to be useful both to saints and sinners; therefore, dear friends, intercede for us with God.
Miserable men are we if we miss the aid of your prayers, but happy are we if we live in your supplications. You do not look to us but to our Master for spiritual blessings, and yet how many times has He given those blessings through His ministers; ask then, again and again, that we may be the earthen vessels into which the Lord may put the treasure of the gospel. We, the whole company of missionaries, ministers, [preachers] city missionaries, and students, do in the name of
"Brethren, pray for us."

EVENING July 7th
"When I passed by thee, I said unto thee, Live. " —Ezekiel 16:6
SAVED one consider gratefully this mandate [order] of mercy. Note that this fiat [order] of God is majestic. In our text, we perceive a sinner with nothing in him but sin, expecting nothing but wrath; but when the eternal Lord passes by in His glory, He looks, He pauses, and He pronounces the solitary but royal word,
"Live."
There speaks God. Who but He could venture to deal with life and dispense [provide] it with a single syllable?
This fiat [command] is manifold [multifaceted]. This word "Live" includes many things. Here is
judicial life . The sinner is ready to be condemned, but the mighty One says,
"Live,"
and he rises, pardoned and absolved [forgiven]. It is
spiritual life.
We knew not [didn’t know] Jesus—our eyes could not see Christ, our ears could not hear His dear voice—
Jehovah said, "Live,"
and we who were dead in trespasses and sins were quickened [born again]. Moreover, it includes
glorified life, which is the perfection of spiritual life. That word,
"I said unto thee, Live,"
rolls on through all the years of time until death comes, and in the midst of the shadows of death, the Lord's voice is still heard saying,
"Live!" In the morning of the resurrection, it is that same voice that is echoed by the archangel, and as holy spirits rise to heaven to be blest for ever in the glory of their God, it is in the power of this same word,
"Live."
Note also, that it is an
irresistible mandate [command].
Saul of Tarsus is on the road to Damascus to arrest the saints of the living God. A voice is heard from heaven and a light is seen above the brightness of the sun, and Saul is crying out,
"Lord, what wilt thou have me to do” [what do you want me to do]?
This word is also a decree of
free grace [unmerited favor]. When sinners are saved, it is only and solely because God does it to magnify His free, unpurchased unsought grace.
Christians, see your position; debtors to grace; show your gratitude by earnest, Christ-like lives, and see to it that you live in earnest as God has charged you to live.

Today’s PRAISE music selections came to mind from today’s Anecdote, Faith’s Checkbook, and todays date for the birth of a Godly Nation built on God’s Word, The Holy Bible.
OUTWARD practical holiness is a very precious mark of grace. I fear that many have perverted the doctrine of justification by faith [in Jesus Christ] in such a way as to treat good works with contempt; if so, they will receive everlasting contempt at the last great day.
If our hands are not clean, let us wash them in Jesus' precious blood, and so let us lift up pure hands to God.
But "clean hands" will not suffice, unless they are connected with "a pure heart."
True religion [faith] is heart-work. We may wash the outside of the cup and the platter as long as we please, but if the inward parts be filthy, we are filthy altogether in the sight of God, for our hearts are more truly ourselves than our hands are; the very life of our being lies in the inner nature, and hence the imperative need of purity within.
The pure in heart shall see God, all others are but blind bats.
The man who is born for heaven "hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity." All men have their joys by which their souls are lifted up;
the worldling [“carnal man”] lifts up his soul in carnal delights which are mere empty vanities; but
the saint loves more substantial things.
Like Jehoshaphat, he is lifted up in the ways of the Lord.
He who is content with husks [pig slop] will be reckoned [counted] with the swine.
Does the world satisfy you? Then you have your reward and portion in this life; make the most of it, for you will know no other joy.
"Nor sworn deceitfully. " The saints are men of honor still. The Christian man's word is his only oath; but that is as good as twenty oaths of other men.
False speaking will shut any man out of heaven, for a liar will not enter into God's house, whatever may be his professions or doings.
Reader, are we condemned by false speaking or do we hope to ascend to the hill of the Lord [ZION] ?

A SINNER’S PRAYER
Whosoever shall call on the name of the lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
Pray and call on the name of the Lord Jesus, like this. Won’t you?
“Lord Jesus, I’m a sinner. I’m lost and hopeless to save myself. Without you and your blood that was shed for me and Your death on the cross I would spend eternity in Hell’s fire.
Thank you Lord Jesus that You love me and died for me before I was born and that You have always loved me and will never reject or turn your back on me. I know You are the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no one can come to the Father but by trusting in You.
Thank you, Father that You have caused me to see myself as I am; a lost sinner. But, because of Your love and goodness, You have made a way and given me the desire to come to You, to turn away from my sin and to trust in You, Lord Jesus. You took my place on the cross and provided the way for me to be forgiven. Thank You.
Thank You that You prompted a desire in me to believe in You, the only begotten Son of God who died on the cross to be the sacrifice that would atone for my sins.
Thank You, Father for Your love that allowed Jesus to suffer and die in my place. Thank You that You raised Jesus from the dead. He is RISEN and is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave and in Christ Jesus I am free.
You raised Jesus from the dead, gave Him a Glorified body and after he was seen by many witnesses on earth You took Him up to reign with You in heaven.
Thank you, Father, for saving me in the name, of Your only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, that you always give witness to and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ.

* Not only were new converts won to the truth in Caesar's household, but after their conversion they remained in that household. They did not feel at liberty to abandon their post of duty because their surroundings were no longer congenial. The Inside Story of Westcott and Hort:

In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,
thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort or Nestle & Aland.is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on defective text. Those who honor the Word of God must not promote any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is entirely evil in itself, but because being contented to use a weakened version rather than the existing, preserved, inerrant unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has preserved for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it must be to Him if His people now chose versions that are based on the defective and inferior Greek manuscript invented by Westcott & Hort or Nestle & Aland.

"Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me [Spurgeon's comment] of Mr. Bunyan’s picture of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melody] , for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.
Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven.
