GOD’S UNSPEAKABLE GIFT.

O Lord, Thou hast done such great things for us that we feel the drawings [attractions] of Thy love. Your Word confirms: “The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying:

Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love, therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn [attracted] thee.”

Draw [bring] us nearer, Lord, draw us into the inner Sanctuary; draw us within the place which once was hidden by the veil which Christ has rent [opened] ; bring us right up to the throne of grace, and there beholding the glory of God above the Mercy Seat may we have communion with the Most High. Heal all our diseases [and injuries]  and forgive us all our trespasses.

ANECDOTE 282: The Blessedness of Old Age.

Some time ago, I stepped up to an old man whom I saw when [I was] preaching at an anniversary, and I said to him, “Brother, do you know there is no man in the whole chapel I envy so much as you !” “Envy me,” he said, “why, I am eighty-seven.” I said,                                                                 “I do, indeed; because you are so near your home, and because I believe that in old age there is a peculiar joy, which we young people do not taste at present. You have got to the bottom of the cup, and it is not with God’s wine as it is with man’s. Man’s wine becomes [contains] dregs at the last, but God’s wine is sweeter the deeper you drink of it.” He said, “That’s very true, young man,” and shook me by the hand.

I believe there is a blessedness about old age that we young men know nothing of. I will tell you how that is. In the first place the old man has a good experience to talk about. The young men are only just trying some of the promises; but the old man can turn them over one by one, and say, “There, I have tried that, and that, and that.” We read them over and say,

“I hope they are true,”

but the old man says,

 “ I know they are true.”

And then he begins to tell you why. He has got a history for every one, like a soldier for his medals; and he takes them out and says, “I will tell you when the Lord revealed that to me: just when I lost my wife; just when I buried my son; just when I was turned out of my cottage, and did not get work for six weeks; or, at another time, when I broke my leg.” He begins telling you the history of the promises, and says,

“There, now, I know they are all true.”

What a blessed thing, to look upon them as paid notes [checks that have been cashed] ; to bring out the old checks that have been cashed, and say,

“ I know they are genuine, or else they would not have been paid.”

Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, what a blessing it is to see in Jesus -the morning star-!

I remember when we read in the newspapers the idle tale that the star of Bethlehem had again appeared.

On inquiry we found that it was only -the morning star-; but no great mistake had been made after all. It is best to see Jesus as the sun; but when we cannot do so, the next best thing is to see Him as that star which prophesies [precedes] the day, and shows that the eternal light is near at hand. If I am not today all that I hope to be, yet I see Jesus, and

 that assures me that I shall one day be like Him.

A sight of Jesus by faith is the pledge of beholding Him in His glory and being transformed into His image. If I have not at this hour all the light and joy I could desire, yet I shall have it; for 

as surely as I see the morning star I shall see the day. 

The morning star is never far from the sun. Come, my soul, has the Lord given thee the morning star? Dost thou hold fast that truth, grace, hope, and love which the Lord has given thee? 

Then in this thou hast the dawn of coming glory. He that makes thee overcome evil, and persevere in righteousness, has therein given thee the morning star.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for the promise we see in the morning star. By looking to Jesus we are blessed in knowing that the full day-break [sunrise] follows soon. I receive this promise Lord Jesus with full assurance, Amen.

MORNING May 13

Christian! If thou art in a night of trial, think of the morrow [tomorrow]; cheer up thy heart with the thought of the coming of thy Lord. Be patient, for “Lo! [Behold!] He comes with clouds descending.”

Be patient! The Husbandman [Gardener] waits until he reaps his harvest. Be patient; for you know who has said,

“Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give to every man according as his work shall be.”

If you are never so wretched [as you are] now, remember

“A few more rolling suns, at most, will land thee on fair Canaan’s coast [in Heaven]. ”Thy head may be crowned with thorny troubles now, but it shall wear a starry crown ere [before] long; thy hand may be filled with cares—it shall sweep [play] the strings of the harp of heaven soon. Thy garments [clothes] may be soiled with dust now; they shall be white by-and-by [before long]. Wait a little longer.

Ah! how despicable our troubles and trials will seem when we look back upon them! Looking at them here in the prospect, they seem immense; but when we get to heaven we shall then

“With transporting joys recount [recall],

The *labors of our feet. ”Our trials will then seem light and momentary afflictions.

Let us go on boldly; if the night be never so dark, the morning cometh [comes], which is more than they can say who are shut up in the darkness of hell.

Do you know what it is thus [therefore] to live on the future—to live on expectation—to antedate heaven?

Happy believer, to have so sure, so comforting a hope. It may be all dark now, but it will soon be light; it may be all trial now, but

it will soon be all happiness.

What matters it [what difference does it make] though

“weeping may endure for a night,” when “joy cometh [comes] in the morning?” [Hallelujah!]

LOOK at your possessions, 0 believer, and compare your portion with the [that] lot of your fellow-men. Some of them have their portion in the field; they are rich, and their harvests yield them a golden increase;

but what are harvests compared with your God, who is the God of harvests?

What are bursting granaries [saving accounts and false riches] compared with Him who is the Husbandman [Divine Gardener] and who feeds you with [Manna]  the bread of heaven?

Some have their portion in the city; their wealth is abundant, and flows to them in constant streams, until they become a very reservoir of gold; but

what is gold compared with your God?

You could not live on it [gold] ; your spiritual life could not be sustained by it. Put it on a troubled conscience and could it relieve its pangs?

Apply it to a desponding [depressed] heart, and see if it could prevent a solitary groan, or lessen one's grief?

But you have God, and in Him you have more than gold or riches could ever buy. Some have their portion in that which most men love, applause and fame; but ask yourself, is not your God more to you than that?

What if a myriad clarions [trumpeters] should loudly applaud you, would this prepare you to pass the Jordan [go to Heaven], or cheer you in prospect of judgment? No, there are griefs in life that wealth cannot alleviate; and there is the deep need of a dying hour, for which no riches can provide.

But when you have God for your portion [inheritance], you have more than all else put together.

In Him every want [need] is met, whether in life or in death. With God for your portion you are rich indeed, for He will supply your need, comfort your heart, assuage [comfort] your grief, guide your steps, be with you in the dark valley, and then take you home,

to enjoy Him as your portion forever.

"I have enough," said Esau; this is the best thing a worldly man can say, but Jacob replies,

"I have all things,"

which is a note too high for carnal [unregenerate] minds [to hear].

A SINNER’S PRAYER:   … FOR WHOSOEVER: [For One and all]

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved     … pray like this, won’t you?   

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am hopeless.  I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross for my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned to Hell. I have been  self-centered from birth.  Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m guilty and sorry for each and every sin I have done and look to You to forgive me of them all. 
I look to You, alone  Lord Jesus to save me.
I call on You,  Lord Jesus, right now to save me.  You died on the cross for me, because of my sin  and You say,  “It shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21.

Right now, just as I am, I call on You, Lord Jesus to save me,  I trust You, to  be my Lord and Savior from now on.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have forgiven me of all my sins.  I ask You to abide in me and give me the desire to always follow You.
You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross.  Even the sins of the whole world.

Thank you,  Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me even before I was born and that You still love me now. I love You too.
 

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that You have called me away from sin and death into the Life everlasting  in Your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave. Romans  8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [Holy Ghost, Comforter, Spirit of Truth]
 

Thank You for saving me heavenly Father. With all my heart, thank you Father for saving me in Jesus’ name,  Amen.

Allow us to share the joy of your new birth with heaven. Won’t you? Heaven rejoices over each redeemed sinner. Luke 15:7

In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,

thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on a defective text. Those who want to honor the Word of God must not promote the use of any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is entirely  evil in itself, but because being contented to use a weakened version rather than the existing, preserved without error unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has preserved for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it would be to Him if His people now chose instead to use versions that are  based on  defective Greek manuscript  created by Westcott and Hort or Nestle and Aland.

Let the biblical story of Nadab and Abihu be a lesson to all:
