A SINNER'S PRAYER

PRAYER 13, Part 3 of 11

THE WINGS OF PRAYER.

We come to Thee and pray that, for Jesus’ sake, and through the virtue of the blood once shed for many for the remission [forgiveness] of sins, Thou wouldest [would] give us perfect pardon of every transgression of the past. Blot out, O God, all our sins like a cloud, and let them never be seen again.

Grant us also the peace-speaking word of promise applied by the Holy Spirit, that being justified by faith we may have peace with God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let us be forgiven and know it, and may there remain no lingering question in our heart about our reconciliation with God, but by a firm, full assurance based upon faith in the finished work of [Jesus] Christ, may we stand as forgiven men and women against whom transgression shall be mentioned never again for ever.

[In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ] Amen.]

ANECDOTE 231: Good but Good for Nothing.

I heard the other day of a Sunday-school address [lesson] in America which pleased me much. The teacher, speaking to the boys, said, “Boys, here’s a watch, what is it for?” The children answered, “To tell the time.” “Well,” he said, “suppose my watch does not tell the time, what is it good for?

“Good for-nothing, sir.”

Then he took out a pencil. “What is this pencil for ?” “It is to write with.” Suppose this pencil won’t make a mark, what is it good for?” “Good-for-nothing, sir” Then he took out his pocketknife. “Boys, what is this for?” They were American boys, and so they shouted,

“to whittle with,”

that is [it means] to experiment on any substance that came in their way by cutting a notch in it. “But,” said he,

“suppose it will not cut, what is the knife good for?”

“Good-for nothing, sir.”

Then the teacher asked, “What is the chief end of man?” [Man’s purpose] and they replied,

“To glorify God.”

“But suppose a man does not glorify God, what is he good for?”

“Good-for-nothing, sir.”

That brings out my point most clearly; there are many professors of whom I will not say that they are good-for-nothing, but methinks if they do not soon stir themselves up to glorify God by proclaiming the sweetness of God’s love it will go hard with them

.

Remember how Jesus said of the *savorless salt

“ henceforth it is good for nothing.”

What were you converted for? What were you forgiven for? What were you renewed for? What have you been preserved on earth for but to tell to others the glad tidings of salvation and so to glorify God?

Do, then, go out with your hands full of the honey of divine love and hold it out to others.

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK MARCH 22 GRACE FOR THE HUMBLE    C.H. Spurgeon

-He giveth grace unto the humble -James 4:6

-Dios resiste a los soberbios, y da gracia a los humildes- Santiago 4:6

Humble hearts seek grace, and therefore they get it. Humble hearts yield to the sweet influences of grace, and so it is bestowed on them more and more largely. Humble hearts lie in the valleys where streams of grace are flowing, and hence they drink of them. Humble hearts are grateful for grace and give the Lord the glory of it, and hence it is consistent with His honor to give it to them.

Come, dear reader, take a lowly place. Be little in thine own esteem [estimation], that the Lord may make much of thee. Perhaps the sigh breaks out,

-I fear I am not humble.-

It may be that this is the language of true humility. Some are proud of being humble, and this is one of the very worst sorts of pride. We are needy, helpless, undeserving, hell-deserving creatures, and if we are not humble, we ought to be.

Let us humble ourselves because of our sins against humility, and then the Lord will give us to taste of His favor.

It is grace which makes us humble,

and grace which finds in this humility an opportunity for pouring in more grace. Let us go down [with humility] that we may rise. Let us be poor in spirit that God may make us rich. Let us be humble that we may not need to be humbled, but may be exalted by the grace of God.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that You give grace unto the humble. Make us sincerely humble so that we won’t need humbling, and may we be exalted [lifted] by Your grace. Let our hearts be grateful for Your grace and may we always give You the glory. I pray this in Your name Lord Jesus, Amen.

Please pray that we will faithfully, whole-heartedly, rightly proclaim, present and share the good news that Jesus suffered and died on the cross to provide eternal salvation to all that would trust in Him.

Pray that all redeemed, blood-bought children of God faithfully minister the Gospel to everyone everywhere.

MORNING March 22

"And He went a little farther, and fell on His face, and prayed. " —Matthew 26:39

Y yéndose un poco más adelante, se postró sobre su rostro, orando —Mateo 26:39

THERE are several instructive features in our Savior's prayer in His hour of trial. It was lonely prayer. He withdrew even from His three favored disciples.

Believer, be much in solitary prayer, especially in times of trial. Family prayer, social prayer, prayer in the Church, will not suffice [not be enough]. These are very precious, but the best beaten spice will smoke in your censer in your private devotions, where no ear hears but God's.

It was humble prayer. Luke says He knelt, but another evangelist says He "fell on His face." Where, then, must be your place, humble servant of the great Master? What dust and ashes should cover your head! Humility gives us [a] good foot-hold in prayer. There is no hope of prevalence with God unless we abase ourselves that He may exalt us in due time.

It was filial [saturated in family love] prayer. "Abba, Father  [Dadda, Daddy] ." You will find it a stronghold in the day of trial to plead your adoption. You have no rights as a subject, you have forfeited them by your treason;

but nothing can forfeit a child's right to a father's protection.

Be not afraid to say,

"My Father, hear my cry."

Observe that it was persevering prayer. He prayed three times.

Cease not until you prevail.

Be as the im-portunate widow, whose continual coming earned what her first supplication could not win. Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving.

Lastly, it was the prayer of resignation.

"Nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt [will]."

Yield, and God yields. Let it be as God wills, and God will determine for the best. Be content to leave your prayer in his hands, who knows when to give and how to give and what to give, and what to withhold.

So, pleading, earnestly, importunately, yet with humility and resignation,

you will surely prevail.

EVENING March 22

"Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am. " —John 17:24

Padre, aquellos que me has dado, quiero que donde yo estoy, ellos estén también conmigo—Juan 17:24

0 DEATH! why do you touch the tree whose spreading branches shade those needing rest? Why do you snatch away the excellent of the earth, in whom we delight? If you must use your axe, use it on the trees that yield no fruit; you might be thanked then. But why will you fell the goodly cedars of Lebanon?

0 restrain your axe, and spare the righteous.

But no, it must not be; death smites the goodliest of our friends. The most generous, the most prayerful, the most holy, the most devoted must die. And why?

It is through Jesus' prevailing prayer,

"Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am."

It is that which bears them on eagle's wings to heaven.

Every time a believer mounts from this earth to paradise, it is an answer to Christ's prayer. A good old divine [preacher] remarks, "Many times Jesus and His people pull against one another in prayer. You bend your knee in prayer and say,

'Father, I will that Thy saints be with me where I am;'

Christ says, 'Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am.'

"Thus the disciple is at cross-purposes with his Lord. The soul cannot be in both places: the beloved one cannot be with Christ and with you too. Now, which pleader shall win the day? If you had your choice; if the King should step from His throne, and say,

"Here are two supplicants praying in opposition to one another, which should be answered?"

I am sure, though it were agony, you would start [fall]  from your feet, [and fall on your knees] and say,

"Jesus, not my will, but Thine be done."

You would give up your prayer for your loved one's life, if you could realize the thought that [Jesus] Christ is praying in the opposite direction.

"Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am."

Lord, You will have them.

By faith we let them go.

A SINNER’S PRAYER:   … FOR WHOSOEVER: [One and all]

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved     … pray like this, won’t you?

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am hopeless.  I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross for my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned to Hell. I have been  self-centered from birth.  Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m guilty and sorry for each and every sin I have done and look to You to forgive me of them all.
I look to You, alone  Lord Jesus to save me.
I call on You,  Lord Jesus, right now to save me.  You died on the cross for me, because of my sin  and You say,  “It shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21.

Right now, just as I am, I call on You, Lord Jesus to save me,  I trust You, to  be my Lord and Savior from now on.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have forgiven me of all my sins.  I ask You to abide in me and give me the desire to always follow You.
You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross.  Even the sins of the whole world.

Thank you,  Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me even before I was born and that You still love me now. I love You too.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that You have called me away from sin and death into the Life everlasting  in Your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave. Romans  8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [Holy Ghost, Comforter, Spirit of Truth]

Thank You for saving me heavenly Father. With all my heart, thank you Father for saving me in Jesus’ name,  Amen.

Allow us to share the joy of your new birth with heaven. Won’t you? Heaven rejoices over each redeemed sinner. Luke 15:7

These titles are selected from the inspired body of work created from the preaching and writing of Charles Haddon Spurgeon 1834-1892. He created an excellent  legacy of gospel preaching and exposition and is known as the “Prince of Preachers”.  Spurgeon has been and is today widely read with great benefit from the 1800’s to this present time. He is the beloved founder of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, England (Still thriving TODAY through the faithful preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.)  [Click to live-stream current gospel preaching in real time each Sunday from London by Dr. Peter Masters, Metropolitan Tabernacle pastor since 1970.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, please bless Your disciples toward the winning of many souls, and help us to be loving and compassionate toward all who are in need, especially those in the household of faith. I pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and for His sake, Amen.

Disclaimer: The John Mark Publishing Company does not praise or exalt  Charles H. Spurgeon beyond the honor due him. He didn’t need or want it when he was on earth and would have no need or desire for it now. Our aim is to lift up and glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and to preach HIM and Him crucified.

Precaution: These Messages and prayers alone will not substitute for continual fellowship with the Lord Jesus. Neither do they replace personal reading, meditation, prayer and fasting over God's divinely preserved and eternal Word. (The King James version (KJV), known also as the Authorized Version (AV), is the preferred English Bible because its accuracy and fidelity to the Greek Textus Receptus [received text] and the Hebrew Masoretic Text) avoid doctrinal and editorial weaknesses found in many contemporary editions.

Prayer Selection by Spurgeon must not be offered as a substitute for personal, intimate fervent, heart-felt, prayer. It  is intended rather, to warm the hearts of those who are in prayer seeking a season of authentic two-way, heart-to-heart  fellowship and prayer with the Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit. Read from the NT Book of Romans Chapter 8.

VIDEO To explain the explosion [over 100] of English Translations of the Holy BIBLE      (Video)

Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort  (Text only)

URL:
https://www.febc.edu.sg/v15/article/def_the_inside_story_of_westcott_and_hort

In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

* Letters from close relatives are quoted in the Inside Story above

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,

thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on a defective text. Those who want to honor the Word of God must not promote the use of any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is evil in itself, but because the attitude of being contented to use a blemished version rather than an existing unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has taken the trouble to preserve for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it would be to Him if His people now chose instead to change over to a version that is based on a defective text.

Let the biblical story of Nadab and Abihu be a lesson to all:

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace. And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp. So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Moses had said. And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled” (Lev 10:1–6).
