PRAYER 4, Part 5 of 5 August 21st  THE ALL-PREVAILING PLEA

 

      [Lord] Remember our land in this time of need. Do Thou be pleased by some means [Do be pleased in some way] to relieve the prevalent [presently prevailing] distress.

 

       Quicken [Breathe life into]  the wheels of commerce that the many who are out of employment in this city may no longer be crying for [in need of] work and bread. Oh! that Thou wouldest [You would] make wars to cease to the ends of the earth, or, when they break out break Thou the slave’s fetters [shackles] thereby, and though desperate be the evil, yet grant that Satan may cast out Satan, and may his kingdom be divided, and so fall.  Above all, Thou [You the] long-expected Messiah, do Thou [do] come! ANECDOTE 22:  August 21st    BIBLE PRECIOUS THROUGH USE.

 
That young man over there says it is a  “ bore ;”   that is the word he uses. He says, “My mother says to me, when you go up to town [away from home] , read a chapter every day. Well, I thought I would please her, and I said I would. I am sure I wish I had not. I did not read a chapter yesterday, or the day before. “We were so busy, I could not help it.”
 

You do not love the Bible, do you ?   “No, there is nothing in it which is interesting.”

 Ah, I thought so. But a little while ago I could not see anything in it. Do you know why?

 

Blind men cannot see, can they?

 

But when the Spirit touches the scales of the eyes, they fall off; and when he puts eye-salves on, then the Bible becomes precious.
 
I remember a minister who went to see an old lady, and he thought he would give her some precious promises out of the word of God. Turning to one, he saw written in the margin “P.” and he asked, “What does this mean?”  “That means precious, sir.”  Further down, he saw  “T” and “P” and he asked what the letters meant. “That,” she said, “means tried and proved, for I have tried and proved it.” If you have tried God’ s word and proved it;  if it is precious to your soul, then you are [blood-bought, born-again] Christians; but those persons who despise the Bible, have “neither part nor lot in the matter.”

 

[Are not redeemed and have no thirst  for God’s Word nor may they put any claim on its promises.]

 

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK:  August 21st   NIGHT OF WEEPING; JOYOUS DAY (Joy in the morning)

 

-For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning-   Psalm 30:5

As the dews are appropriate to the night, so is weeping seemly for us when Jesus hides his face from us. The children of the bride-chamber may well mourn when the heavenly Bridegroom is taken from them, but it is only for a night. Morning will end our mourning. Our night-sorrow is for the night, but our joys are for a day that will know no evening.

 A moment,  under our Father’s anger seems very long, and yet it is but a moment after all. If we grieve His Spirit [with sin] we cannot look for His smile; but He is a God ready to pardon, and  [when we confess our sins] He soon puts aside all remembrance of our faults. When we faint and are ready to die because of His frown, His favor puts new life into us.

         This verse has another note of the semi-quaver [trembling] kind. Our weeping night soon turns into joyous day. Brevity is the mark of mercy in the hour of the chastisement of believers. The Lord loves not [doesn’t like] to use the rod on His chosen; He gives a blow or two, and all is Over; yea, and the life and the joy, which follow the anger and the weeping, more than make amends for the salutary [temporary, passing] sorrow.

 

Come, my heart, begin thy [start singing your] hallelujahs! Weep not [Don’t weep] all through the night, but wipe thine [your] eyes in anticipation of the morning.  These tears are dew which mean us [bring us] as much good as the sunbeams of the morrow [of tomorrow].

 

Tears clear the eyes for the sight of God in His grace; and make the vision of His favor more precious. A night of sorrow supplies those shades of the pictures by which the highlights are brought out with distinctness.

All is well.

Prayer: Thank You Father that joy comes in the morning and thank you for new songs of praise that are hammered-out  on the anvil of trouble in Jesus’ name, Amen.

          WE are here taught the great lesson that to get we must give, that to accumulate we must scatter, that to make ourselves happy we must make others happy, and that in order to become spiritually vigorous we must seek the spiritual good of others. In watering others we are ourselves watered. How? Our efforts to be useful bring out our powers for usefulness. We have latent talents and dormant faculties, which are brought to light [discovered] by exercise. Our strength for labor [work] is hidden even from ourselves, until we venture forth to fight the Lord's battles, or to climb the mountains of difficulty. We do not know what tender sympathies we possess until we try to dry the widow's tears, and soothe the orphan's grief. We often find in attempting to teach others, that we gain instruction for ourselves. 

 

Oh, what gracious lessons some of us have learned at sick beds! We went to teach the Scriptures; we came away blushing that we knew so little of them. In our converse [conversation] with poor saints, we are taught the way of God more perfectly for ourselves and get a deeper insight into divine truth. So that watering others makes us humble. We discover how much grace there is where we had not looked for it; and how much the poor saint may outstrip us in knowledge. 

 

Our own comfort is also increased by our working for others. We endeavor to cheer them, and the consolation gladdens our own heart. Like the two men in the snow; one chafed [rubbed] the other's limbs [arms and legs] to keep him from dying, and in so doing kept his own blood in circulation, and saved his own life. The poor widow of Sarepta  gave from her scanty store a supply for the prophet's wants, and from that day she never again knew what want [need] was. 

 

Give then, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and running over.

 

EVENING    August 21st

"I SAID NOT UNTO THE SEED OF JACOB, SEEK YE [You Look For] ME IN VAIN." —Isaiah 45:19

            WE may gain much solace [peace] by considering what God has not said. What He has said is inexpressibly full of comfort and delight; what He has not said is scarcely less rich in consolation. It was one of these "said-nots” that preserved the kingdom of Israel in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, for "the Lord said not that He would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven" (2 Kings 14:27).

 

In our text we have an assurance that God will answer prayer, because He has "not said unto the seed of Israel, Seek ye Me [you are looking for Me] in vain." You who write bitter things against yourselves should remember —let your doubts and fears say what they will—  that if God has not cut you off from mercy, there is no room for [depression or] despair: even the voice of conscience is of little weight if it is not seconded by the voice of God. 

 

What God has said, tremble at! But suffer not [don’t allow] your vain imaginings to overwhelm you with despondency and sinful despair. Many timid persons have been vexed [bothered] by the suspicion that there may be something in God's decree that shuts them out from hope, but here is a complete refutation to that troublesome fear, for no true seeker can be decreed to wrath. 

 

"I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth; I have  NOT   said," even in the secret of my unsearchable decree, "Seek ye Me in vain." [It is useless for youYou look for me to no avail]

 

God has clearly revealed that He will hear the prayer of those who call on Him, and that [His] declaration cannot be contravened [changed]. He has so firmly, so truthfully, so righteously spoken that there can be no room for doubt. He does not reveal His mind in unintelligible words but He speaks plainly and positively,

 "Ask and ye shall receive."

 

Believe, 0 trembler, this sure truth: that prayer must and shall be heard, and that never, even in the secrets of eternity, has the Lord said to any living soul, "Seek ye Me in vain."

 

[He has never said, “It is useless (in vain) for you to seek me”].

My Lord “Will-be-will” [Mr. Self-will] is a great blusterer, [one who roars loudly with empty threats, menaces or protests] and it is hard to subject him to God's will; but when the heart of flesh is given, the will quivers like an aspen leaf in every breath of heaven, and bows like a willow in every breeze of God's Spirit.

 

Mr.  Self-will  is a personification  in The Pilgrim’s Progress

(The world’s  most widely read and most famous Allegory written by John Bunyan in the 1600’s and has NEVER been out of print.)

 

The natural will is cold, hard iron, which cannot be hammered into form, but the renewed will, like molten metal, is soon molded by the hand of [God’s] grace. In the fleshy heart there is a tenderness of the affections.  

The hard heart does not love the Redeemer, but the renewed heart burns with affection towards Him. The hard heart is selfish and coldly demands, "Why should I weep for sin? Why should I love the Lord?"

 

But the heart of flesh says;

"Lord, You know that I love You; help me to love You more!"

 

Many are the privileges of this renewed heart;   " 'Tis [It is] here the [Holy] Spirit dwells, 'tis here that Jesus rests."  It is fitted to receive every spiritual blessing, and every blessing comes to it. It is prepared to yield every heavenly fruit to the honor and praise of God, and therefore the Lord delights in it.

 

A tender heart is the best defense against sin, and the best preparation for heaven. A renewed heart stands on its watchtower [on guard] looking for the coming of the Lord Jesus.

Requiem Note: *Charles Dumah Riley, Sr. (AKA: Daddy, "CD", and Paw Paw) 1897 – 1987

JM witnessed the last few hours of his *Daddy’s life on earth coming to an end and heard him say only “Amen” over and over, in the belief  that he was affirming and agreeing with God’s will in the conclusion of his own life’s and giving a testimony of God’s goodness to him and his agreement and his surrender to his earthly departure to be eternally present with the Lord Jesus. 

Amen... Amen… and  Amen!

 

My Daddy’s  prayer before every meal, always offered with all gravity, reverence and always heard in the unique sound of his deep Bass prayer voice:

“Accept our thanks for these and all other blessings, we humbly ask in Thy name, Amen.”

vis. Textus Receptus [The Traditional Greek Text] (From the overwhelming majority of extant New Testament Greek manuscripts)

The Incomplete and unsealed codices of Sinaiticus and Vaticanus are not majority texts, [Original Masoretic Hebrew and the Greek Textus Receptus]. Sinaiticus and Vaticanus present variant, ambiguous and erroneous readings rather than that of the well-established and settled texts. They disagree often with one another as well as with the settled majority texts. Thus, an attempt to create a pretext that will continue to justify a never-ending demand for additional editions and interpretations. These unsettled differences and bias in certain sectarian doctrine [dogma] have led to the production of multiple “modern” editions with ambiguities, many variant readings and confusion from the explosion of unending, new editions.

Profit-driven publishers have embraced such an economic windfall to sell a continual flow of “new and better” English edition of The Bible. They give too little attention to the fidelity and accuracy already settled [in heaven] in majority manuscripts of the Masoretic Hebrew and the  Greek Textus Receptus.

God, Himself, providentially protects and preserves His Word. His Word is the God-breathed, self-authenticating, immutable [unchanging and unchangeable], eternal, inerrant, infallible, infinite and all-powerful Word, settled in heaven. He is not the author of confusion.

(1 One)   His Name is INCOMPREHENSIBLE!

Exodus 3:13-15 “13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. 15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.”

So, Dr. Sorenson, “I hear You are King James Only.”
 
No, I’m Traditional Text only. But if you come to the view and the conviction of being Traditional Text only, you will be Only King James.

The issue is not translational.

Marketing ploys by publishing companies with little basis in reality would have us to believe that the new versions  are:
 

• Easier to read.

• More modern.

• More accurate (Not  true)
   

The truth is that the KJV remains The most popular. (is still the most popularly read Bible in America). Over five billion copies of the King James (1769) is greater than all the other versions and editions combined.

The issue comes down to the textual issue. By That, I refer to the underlying Greek text. I guess we could say texts, plural but particularly that of the New Testament. On the one hand is the Traditional Text from which the only major English translation is the King James Version of the Bible. The Traditional Text.

On the other hand, is the Critical Text sometimes called the eclectic text from whence all the other translations come. And some will say well there really is no difference between them. The difference you could amount to is just the footnotes in the bottom of a page. (This is Not true) He was not dishonest but just repeating what someone had told him.
