PRAYER 23, Part 5 of 7 THE LOOK OF FAITH

We look up to Thee and are filled with light. But O Thou dear, dear Savior, we dare not turn to ordinances, we dare not turn to our own prayers, and tears, and almsgivings [tithes and offerings], we dare not look to our own works, we only look to Thee; Thy wounds, Immanuel [God with us], these bleed the balm [medicine] that heals our wounds, Thy crowned head once girt [encircled] with thorns, Thy body once laid in the silent tomb, Thy Godhead [Father, Son, Holy Ghost] once covered and concealed from man, but now resplendent amidst triumphant hosts [conquering armies].

If we can perish trusting in Thee we must perish, but we know we cannot, for Thou hast [have] bound up [tied together] our salvation with Thy glory, and because Thou art [are] a glorious Savior forever, none that trust in Thee shall ever be confounded [confused or baffled]. But we do trust Thee now. If all our past experience has been a mistake, yet we will begin at the cross today; or if we have never had any experience of Thee before, we would [want to] begin today. Oh! hear Thou, hear Thou the prayer :

—“Dear Savior, draw reluctant hearts, To Thee let sinners fly.” [Come Running]

ANECDOTE 321: June 23rd PAYING AND PRAYING.

I was reading the story of a good old deacon in Maine, in America, who came in to a meeting after there had been a missionary collection [offering]. The minister there and then asked “our good brother Sewell” to pray.

Sewell did not pray, but thrust his hand in his pocket and stood fumbling about. “Bring the box,” he said; and when the box came, and he had put his money into it, the minister said, “Brother Sewell, I did not ask you to give anything, I only wished you to pray.”

“Oh,” said he, “I could not pray till I had first given something.” He felt obliged first to do something for the great mission work, and having done that he could pray for it. Oh, that all Christ’s people felt the justice of that course of conduct!

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK June 23rd THE ENEMY FIRSTHAND [Up Close]

-Therefore thus saith [says] the Lord concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank [build a bunker] against it -2 Kings 19:32

Neither did Sennacherib molest [attack] the city. He had boasted loudly, but he could not carry out his threats. The Lord is able to stop the enemies of His people in the very act [at the moment of attack]. When the lion has the lamb between his jaws, the great Shepherd of the sheep can rob him of his prey.

Our extremity [extreme circumstance] only provides an opportunity for a grander display of divine power and wisdom [from God] . In the case before us, the terrible foe [enemy] did not put in an appearance before the city which he thirsted [wanted] to destroy. No annoying arrow could he shoot over the walls, and no besieging engines [catapults] could he put to work to batter down the castles, and no banks [bunkers] could he cast up [build] to shut in the inhabitants.

Perhaps in our case also the Lord will prevent our adversaries from doing us the least harm. Certainly, He can alter their intentions, or render their designs so abortive [self-destructive] that they will gladly forego [abandon] them. Let us trust in the Lord and keep His way, and He will take care of us.

Yea, He will fill us with wondering praise as we see the perfection of His deliverance. Let us not fear the enemy till he actually come, and then let us trust in the Lord.

Prayer: Thank You Lord Jesus, for Your protection that’s given to those who trust You. Help me to know that my extremity [extreme difficulty] is Your opportunity [to bless me with Your wisdom, power, and love]. Help me to trust [believe] and obey You today. Give me a willing heart and a steadfast resolution to follow You, Lord Jesus I pray, Amen.

MORNING June 23rd "Ephraim is a cake not turned. [half-baked]"—Hosea 7:8

A CAKE NOT TURNED IS UNCOOKED ON ONE SIDE; [half-baked] and so Ephraim was, in many respects, untouched by divine grace: though there was some partial obedience, there was very much rebellion left.

My soul, I charge [challenge] you, see whether this be your case. Are you thorough [diligent] in the things of God? Has grace gone through the very center of your being so as to be felt in its divine operations in all your powers, your actions, your words, and your thoughts?

To be sanctified, spirit, soul, and body, should be your aim and prayer; and although sanctification may not be perfect in you anywhere in [any] degree, yet it must be universal in its action; there must not be the appearance of holiness in one place and reigning sin in another, else you, too, will be a cake not turned [half-baked].

A cake not turned is soon burned on the side nearest the fire, and although no man can have too much religion [earnest faith], there are some who seem burned black with bigoted zeal for that part of truth which they have received, or are charred to a cinder with a vain-glorious [argumentative] Pharisaic ostentation of those religious performances [observances] which suit their humor [personal preference or bias].

The assumed appearance of superior sanctity frequently accompanies a total absence of all vital godliness.

The saint in public is a devil in private. He deals in flour by day and in soot [useless, filth] by night. The cake which is burned on one side, is [uncooked] dough on the other.

If it be so [If it’s like this] with me, 0 Lord, turn me! [over]

Turn my un sanctified nature to the fire of Your love and let it feel the sacred glow, and let my burned side cool a little, while I learn my own weakness and want [lack] of heat when [if] I am removed from Your heavenly flame.

Let me not be found [to be] double-minded, but single-minded entirely under the powerful influence of reigning grace; for well I know if I am left like a cake unturned, and am not on both sides the subject of Your grace, I must be consumed forever amid everlasting burnings.

EVENING June 23rd "WAITING FOR THE ADOPTION. " —Romans 8:23

EVEN in this world saints are God's children, but men cannot discover it except by certain moral characteristics. The adoption is not manifested [hasn’t been made public], the children are not yet openly declared.

Among the Romans a man might adopt a child and keep it private for a long time, but there was a second adoption in public. When the child was brought before the constituted authorities, its [the child’s] former garments [clothes] were taken off, and the father who took it to be his child gave it raiment [clothing] suitable to its new condition of life.

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be."

We are not yet arrayed in the apparel proper for the royal family of heaven; we are wearing in this flesh and blood the clothing of the sons of Adam; but we know that

"when He shall appear" who is the "first-born among many brethren," we shall be like Him, we shall see Him as He is.

Can you imagine that a child taken from the lowest ranks of society, and adopted by a Roman senator, would not say to himself,

"I long [yearn] for the day when I shall be publicly adopted. Then I shall leave off these plebeian garments [plain clothes], and be robed [dressed] as becomes my senatorial rank."

Happy in what he has received, he groans to get the fullness of what is promised him. So it is with us today.

We are waiting until we put on our proper garments, and are manifested as the children of God. We are young nobles, and have not yet worn our coronets [crowns].

We are young brides, and the marriage day is not yet come, and by the love our Spouse bears [gives] us, we are led to long [desire] and sigh for the bridal morning.

Our very happiness makes us groan after more; our joy, like a swollen spring [with abundant water coming out of the ground], longs [yearns] to well up [rise up] like an Iceland geyser [Yellowstone’s Old Faithful in Wyoming], leaping to the skies, and it heaves and groans within our spirit for want [lack] of space and room by which to manifest [show] itself to [other] men.

WHO IS THE GOD OF THE BIBLE?

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF HIS NAME?

(1 One) His Name is INCOMPREHENSIBLE!

Exodus 3:13-15 “13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. 15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.”

The Critical Text vs. The Traditional Text

So, Dr. Sorenson, “I hear You are King James Only.”

No, I’m Traditional Text only. But if you come to the view and the conviction of being Traditional Text only, you will be Only King James.

The issue is not translational.

Marketing ploys by publishing companies with little basis in reality would have us to believe that the new versions are:

Easier to read.
More modern.
More accurate (Not true)

The truth is that the KJV remains The most popular. (is still the most popularly read Bible in America). Over five billion copies of the King James (1769) is greater than all the other versions and editions combined.

The issue comes down to the textual issue. By That, I refer to the underlying Greek text. I guess we could say texts, plural but particularly that of the New Testament. On the one hand is the Traditional Text from which the only major English translation is the King James Version of the Bible. The Traditional Text.

On the other hand, is the Critical Text sometimes called the eclectic text from whence all the other translations come. And some will say well there really is no difference between them. The difference you could amount to is just the footnotes in the bottom of a page. (This is Not true) He was not dishonest but just repeating what someone had told him.
