This powerful, inspirational docudrama faithfully recreates the times of C.H. Spurgeon and brings the “people’s preacher” to life as it follows his trials and triumphs with historical accuracy. Here is the intimate story of one of the greatest preachers in the history of the church. We follow him from his youth where, as a young preacher he is surprisingly called to minister in London and soon captures 2the love and respect of the nation. He goes on to become one of its most influential figures. This powerful, inspirational docudrama faithfully recreates the times of C.H. Spurgeon and brings the “people’s preacher” to life as it follows his trials and triumphs with historical accuracy. Made by the award-winning Christian Television Association and filmed on location in England, Scotland, France and Germany, this film vividly captures the spirit and message of a man whose eventful — and sometimes controversial — life is highly relevant to the twenty-first century.

TODAY’S DEVOTION

PRAYER 12. Part 1 of 10

ON HOLY GROUND.

“OUR Father, which art in heaven, hallowed [holy] be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

We fear that we often begin our prayer with petitions for ourselves, and put our daily bread before Thy kingdom, and the pardoning of our sins before the hallowing of [acknowledging the Holiness of] Thy [Your] name. We would not do so today, but guided by our Lord’s model of prayer, we would first pray for Thy glory; and here, great God, we would adore [dearly love] Thee. Thou hast [have] made us and not we ourselves. We are Thy people, and the sheep of Thy pasture.

All glory be unto Thee, Jehovah, the only living and true God. With heart and mind, and memory and fear, and hope and joy, we worship the Most High [God].

It well becomes [is fitting for] us to put our shoes from off our feet [take our shoes off] when we draw near to God, for the place whereon we stand is holy ground.

If God in the bush demanded the un-sandaled foot of the prophet [Moses], how much more shall God in Christ Jesus [require it]? Amen.

ANECDOTE 222: God’s Consideration.

A person may happen to do you a good turn; but if you are sure that he did it by accident, or with no more thought than that wherewith a passing stranger throws a penny to a beggar, you are not [greatly] impressed with gratitude. But when the action of your friend is the result of earnest deliberation, and you see that he acts in the tenderest [most tender] regard to your welfare, you are far more thankful: traces of anxiety to do you good are very pleasant. Have I not heard persons say,

“It was so kind and so thoughtful of him!”

Do you not notice that men value kindly thought [thoughtfulness], and set great store by tender consideration! Remember, then, that there is never a thoughtless action on the part of God. His mind goes with his hand: his heart is in his acts. He thinks so much of his people, that the very hairs of their heads are all numbered : he thinks not only of the great thing, but of all the little things which are incidental to the great thing; as the hairs are to the head.

Every affliction is timed and measured, and every comfort is sent with a loving thoughtfulness which makes it precious in a sevenfold degree. believer, the great thoughtfulness of the divine mind is exercised towards you, the chosen of the Lord. [Praise You, Lord Jesus!]

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK MARCH 10 WALK IN LIGHT C.H. Spurgeon 1834—1892

-I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness -John 12:46

-Yo la luz he venido al mundo, para que todo aquel que cree en mi no permanezca en tinieblas -Juan 12:46

This world is dark as midnight; Jesus has come that by faith we may have light, and may no longer sit in the gloom [darkness] which covers all the rest of mankind. Whosoever is a very wide term: it means you and me. If we trust in Jesus we shall no more sit in the dark shadow of death, but shall enter into the warm light of a day which shall never end. Why do we not come out into the light at once? A cloud may sometimes hover over us, but we shall not abide in darkness if we believe in Jesus. He has come to give us broad daylight. Shall He come in vain [with no results] ? If we have faith we have the privilege of sunlight: let us enjoy it. From the night of natural depravity of ignorance, of doubt, of despair, of sin, of dread, Jesus has come to set us free; and all believers shall know that He no more comes in vain [with no purpose] than the sun rises and fails to scatter his heat and light.

Shake off thy depression, dear brother. Abide not in the dark, but abide in the light. In Jesus is thy hope, thy joy, thy Heaven. Look to Him, to Him only, and thou shalt [shall, will] rejoice as the birds rejoice at sunrise, and as the angels rejoice before [in front of] the throne [Gods majestic seat].

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that You are come [are here] a light into the world, that whosoever believeth [believes] in You should not abide [remain] in darkness in Jesus name, Amen.

MORNING March 10

"In my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. " — Psalm 30:6

Y dije yo en mi prosperidad: No seré jamás conmovido; — Salmos 30:6

MOAB [present-day Jordan] is settled [warehoused] on his lees [protected shelter], he hath not been emptied [transferred or traded] from vessel to vessel." Give a man wealth and let his ships bring home continually rich freights; let the winds and waves appear to be his servants to bear his vessels across the bosom of the mighty deep; let his lands yield abundantly: let the weather be propitious [beneficial] to his crops; let uninterrupted success attend him and let him stand among men as a successful merchant; let him enjoy continued health and allow him with braced nerve and brilliant eye to march through the world, living happily; give him the buoyant spirit and have a song perpetually on his lips; let his eye be ever sparkling with joy

— and the natural consequence of such an easy state to any man, even though he is the best Christian who ever breathed, will be presumption— [unwarranted boldness, indulgent impertinence and self-righteous assumptions]. Even David said, "I shall never be moved" and we are not better than David, nor half so good.

Brother, beware of the smooth places of the way. If you are treading them, or if the way be rough, thank God for it. If God were to always rock us in the cradle of prosperity, if we were always dandled [bounced and doted over] on the knees of fortune, if we had not some stain on the alabaster [white] pillar, if there were not a few clouds in the sky, if we had not some bitter drops in the wine of this life, we would become intoxicated with pleasure. We would dream "we stand," and stand we would, but it would be upon a pinnacle [dangerous place]. Like the man asleep upon the mast [high-up in the crow’s nest], each moment we would be in jeopardy.

We bless God, then, for our afflictions; we thank Him for our changes; we extol his name for losses of property; for we feel that had He not chastened us thus, we might have become too secure. Continued worldly prosperity is a fiery trial.

Afflictions, [trials and tribulations], though they seem severe,

In mercy oft [often] are sent.

EVENING March 10

"Man ... is of few days, and full of trouble. " —Job 14:1

El Hombre … Corto de días, y harto de sinsabores—Job 14:1

IT may be of great service to us, before we fall asleep, to remember this mournful fact, for it may lead us to set loose by earthly things. There is nothing very pleasant in the recollection that we are not above the shafts of adversity, but it may humble us and prevent our boasting like the psalmist in our MORNING'S portion: My mountain stands firm, I shall never be moved. It may stop us from taking too deep a root in this soil from which we will so soon be transplanted into the heavenly garden. Let us recollect the frailty with which we hold our temporal mercies.

If we would remember that all the trees of earth are marked for the woodman's axe, we would not be so ready to build our nests in them. We should love, but we should love with the love that expects death, and that reckons on separations. Our dear relations are but loaned to us, and the hour when we must return them to the lender's hand may be even at the door.

The like [same] is certainly true of our worldly goods.

Do not riches take to themselves wings and fly away? Our health is equally precarious. Frail flowers of the field, we must not reckon on blooming forever. There is a time appointed for weakness and sickness when we will have to glorify God by suffering, and not by earnest activity.

There is no single point at which we can hope to escape from the sharp arrows of affliction; out of our few days there is not one secure from sorrow. Man's life is a cask full of bitter wine; he who looks for joy in it would better seek for honey in an ocean of brine.

Beloved reader, set not your affections on things of earth, but seek those things which are above: for here the moth devours, and the thief breaks through, but there all joys are perpetual and eternal. The path of trouble is the way home.

Lord, make this thought a pillow for many a weary head!

A SINNER’S PRAYER:   … FOR WHOSOEVER: [One and all]

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved     … pray like this, won’t you?

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am hopeless.  I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross for my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned to Hell. I have been  self-centered from birth.  Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m guilty and sorry for each and every sin I have done and look to You to forgive me of them all.
I look to You, alone  Lord Jesus to save me.
I call on You,  Lord Jesus, right now to save me.  You died on the cross for me, because of my sin  and You say,  “It shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21.

Right now, just as I am, I call on You, Lord Jesus to save me,  I trust You, to  be my Lord and Savior from now on.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have forgiven me of all my sins.  I ask You to abide in me and give me the desire to always follow You.
You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross.  Even the sins of the whole world.

Thank you,  Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me even before I was born and that You still love me now. I love You too.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that You have called me away from sin and death into the Life everlasting  in Your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave. Romans  8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [Holy Ghost, Comforter, Spirit of Truth]

Thank You for saving me heavenly Father. With all my heart, thank you Father for saving me in Jesus’ name,  Amen.

Allow us to share the joy of your new birth with heaven. Won’t you? Heaven rejoices over each redeemed sinner. Luke 15:7

Come to Him. Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest..  Matthew 11:28

Give Him the burden.  Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22]

MISSION STATEMENT:

Our aim is to be Christlike. We desire to fulfill the Great Commission in taking the GOOD NEWS of Salvation by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ [The Messiah] to every creature, making and baptizing disciples in the name of God the Father, Jesus the Christ and the Holy Ghost.

The Published Titles from Spurgeon that are included exclusively each day in the Devotion are:

·       C.H. Spurgeon Prayers

·       Spurgeon’s  Illustrative Anecdotes

·       Faith’s Checkbook

·       Morning & Evening

These titles are selected from the inspired body of work created from the preaching and writing of Charles Haddon Spurgeon 1834-1892. He created an excellent  legacy of gospel preaching and exposition and is known as the “Prince of Preachers”.  Spurgeon has been and is today widely read with great benefit from the 1800’s to this present time. He is the beloved founder of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, England (Still thriving TODAY through the faithful preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.)  [Click to live-stream current gospel preaching in real time each Sunday from London by Dr. Peter Masters, Metropolitan Tabernacle pastor since 1970.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, please bless Your disciples toward the winning of many souls, and help us to be loving and compassionate toward all who are in need, especially those in the household of faith. I pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and for His sake, Amen.

Disclaimer: The John Mark Publishing Company does not praise or exalt  Charles H. Spurgeon beyond the honor due him. He didn’t need or want it when he was on earth and would have no need or desire for it now. Our aim is to lift up and glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and to preach HIM and Him crucified.

Precaution: These Messages and prayers alone will not substitute for continual fellowship with the Lord Jesus. Neither do they replace personal reading, meditation, prayer and fasting over God's divinely preserved and eternal Word. (The King James version (KJV), known also as the Authorized Version (AV), is the preferred English Bible because its accuracy and fidelity to the Greek Textus Receptus [received text] and the Hebrew Masoretic Text) avoid doctrinal and editorial weaknesses found in many contemporary editions.

Prayer Selection by Spurgeon must not be offered as a substitute for personal, intimate fervent, heart-felt, prayer. It  is intended rather, to warm the hearts of those who are in prayer seeking a season of authentic two-way, heart-to-heart  fellowship and prayer with the Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit. Read from the NT Book of Romans Chapter 8.

VIDEO Explaining  the explosion [over 100] of English Translations of the Holy BIBLE      (Video)

Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort  (Text only)

URL:
https://www.febc.edu.sg/v15/article/def_the_inside_story_of_westcott_and_hort

In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

* Letters from close relatives are quoted in the Inside Story above

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,

thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on a defective text. Those who want to honor the Word of God must not promote the use of any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is evil in itself, but because the attitude of being contented to use a blemished version rather than an existing unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has taken the trouble to preserve for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it would be to Him if His people now chose instead to change over to a version that is based on a defective text.

Let the biblical story of Nadab and Abihu be a lesson to all:

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace. And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp. So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Moses had said. And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled” (Lev 10:1–6).
