Baptism is not required for salvation. Remember, Jesus said to the thief on the cross, who acknowledged Jesus’ innocence and said to him. “Remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Verily [Truly] I say to you, Today you shall be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43

The act of Baptism pictures the Lord’s death and resurrection and by extension through identification with Him, also pictures the believer’s death to self, atonement, and new, born-again life.

The ordinance of Baptism bears witness to the preaching of John the Baptist. He preached the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand and exhorted Repentance from sin and the Baptism of atonement. Therefore, the ordinance of baptism is not required for salvation but should be followed to fulfil all righteousness.

You are invited to Worship Him in Spirit and in truth. This worship may be manifested through prayer, Bible reading, scriptural meditation, gospel preaching, singing of sacred hymns and spiritual songs.

Let the whole earth be filled with Thy glory.

ANECDOTE 334: July 6th A PREACHER CONVERTED.

You remember Rowland Hill’s Story in “The Village Dialogues,” about Mr. Merriman. Mr. Merriman was a sad scapegrace of a preacher; and was to be seen at every fair and revelry [party], and used [was] seldom to be found in his pulpit when he should have been.

But when by God’s Grace, he was converted, he began to preach with tears running down his face!

The Church soon became crowded, but the squire would not go—he even locked up his pew [seats].

So Mr. Merriman had a little ladder made outside the door [of his pew], as he did not wish to break it open, and the people used to sit on the steps, up one side and down the other, so that there was twice as much room as there was before!

Of all the stars in the sky the polestar [North Star] is the most useful to the mariner [sea-fairing sailor]. This text is a polestar, for it has guided more souls to salvation than any other Scripture. It is among promises what the Great Bear is among constellations. Several words in it shine with peculiar brilliance. Here we have God’s love, with a “so” to it, which marks its measureless greatness.

Then we have God’s gift in all its freeness and greatness. This also is God’s Son, that unique and priceless gift of a love which could never fully show itself till Heaven’s Only-begotten had been sent to live and die for men. These three points are full of light.

Then there is the simple requirement of believing, which graciously points to a way of salvation suitable for guilty men. This is backed by a wide description

-whosoever believeth in him.-

Many have found room in “whosoever” who would have felt themselves shut out by a narrower word.

Then comes the great promise, that believers in Jesus shall not perish, but have everlasting life. This is cheering to every man who feels that he is ready to perish, and that he cannot save himself. We believe in the Lord Jesus, and we have eternal life.

Prayer: Thank You Father, for Your promise of salvation. Help me trust in Jesus, Your only begotten [Fathered] Son. He is Your Word by which You will save and keep whosoever believes in Him according to your Word, The Bible.

I pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Amen.

MORNING July 6th "WHOSO HEARKENETH UNTO ME SHALL DWELL SAFELY, AND SHALL BE QUIET FROM FEAR OF EVIL."— Proverbs 1:33

DIVINE love is rendered conspicuous when it shines in the midst of judgments [trials]. Fair [beautiful] is that lone star that smiles through the rifts; [open space in the clouds] of the thunder clouds; bright is the oasis that blooms in the wilderness of sand; so fair and so bright is love in the midst of wrath [anger].

When the Israelites provoked the Most High by their continued idolatry He punished them by withholding both dew and rain so that their land was visited by a sore [severe] famine; but while He did this He took care that His own chosen ones should be secure. If all other brooks [streams] are dry, yet there will be one reserved for Elijah; and when that fails, God will still preserve for him a place of sustenance; [provision] but, not only this, the Lord had not simply one “Elijah”,but He had a remnant [chosen elect members] according to the election of grace, who were hidden by fifties in a cave, and though the whole land was subject to famine, yet these fifties in the cave were fed and fed from Ahab's table too by His faithful, God-fearing steward, Obadiah.

From this let us draw the inference [conclusion] that, come what may, God's people are safe. Let convulsions shake the solid earth, let the skies themselves be rent in twain [split in two], yet amid the wreck of worlds the believer will be as secure as in the calmest hour of rest.

If God cannot save His people under heaven, He will save them in heaven. If the world becomes too hot to hold them, then heaven will be the place of their reception and their safety.

Be then confident, when you hear of wars, and rumors of wars. Let no agitation distress you, but be quiet [at peace] from fear of evil. Whatsoever comes on the earth you, beneath the broad wings of Jehovah [God], will be secure.

Steady yourself on His promise; rest in His faithfulness, and bid defiance to the blackest [bleakest] future, for there is nothing in it direful [severe] for you.

Your sole concern should be to show forth to the world the blessedness of

heeding the voice of wisdom. [God’s Wisdom in His WORD]

EVENING July 6th "HOW MANY ARE MINE INIQUITIES AND SINS?"

—Job 13:23

—¿Cuántas iniquidades y pecados tengo yo? —Job 13:23

HAVE you ever really weighed and considered how great the sin of God's people is? Think how heinous [horrible] your own transgression is and you will find that not only does a sin here and there tower up like an alp [a very high mountain], but that your iniquities are heaped on each other, as in the old fable of the giants who piled *Pelian upon Ossa, mountain upon mountain.

What an aggregate of sin there is in the life of one of the most sanctified of God's children! Attempt to multiply this, the sin of one only, by the multitude of the redeemed,

"a number which no man can number,"

and you will have some conception of the great mass of the guilt of the people for whom Jesus shed His blood.

But we arrive at a more adequate idea of the magnitude of sin by the greatness of the remedy provided.

It is the blood of Jesus Christ, God's only begotten and well-beloved Son.

God's Son!

Angels cast their crowns before Him! All the choral symphonies of heaven surround his glorious throne.

"God over all, blessed forever. Amen."

And yet He takes on Himself the form of a servant and is scourged, pierced, bruised, torn, and at last slain since nothing but the blood of the incarnate Son of God could make atonement for our offences.

No human mind can adequately estimate the infinite value of the divine sacrifice, for great as is the sin of God's people, the atonement that takes it away is immeasurably greater.

Therefore, the believer, even when sin rolls like a black flood and the remembrance of the past is bitter, can yet stand before the blazing throne of the great and holy God, and cry,

"Who is he that condemneth [condemns]?

It is Christ that died; yea rather, that hath risen again."

While the recollection of his sin fills him with shame and sorrow, he at the same time makes it a foil [a contrasting background] to show the brightness of mercy.

Guilt is the dark night in which the fair star of divine love shines with serene [holy, quiet and beautiful] splendor.

* In Greek mythology, two giants piled Mount Pelion on Ossa, another mountain in Thessaly, in order to scale [Mount] Olympus, but Apollo killed the giants before they could make the attempt.

So, Dr. Sorenson, “I hear You are King James Only.”

No, I’m Traditional Text only. But if you come to the view and the conviction of being Traditional Text only, you will be Only King James.

The issue is not translational.

Marketing ploys by publishing companies with little basis in reality would have us to believe that the new versions are:

Easier to read.
More modern.
More accurate (Not true)

The truth is that the KJV remains The most popular. (is still the most popularly read Bible in America). Over five billion copies of the King James (1769) is greater than all the other versions and editions combined.

The issue comes down to the textual issue. By That, I refer to the underlying Greek text. I guess we could say texts, plural but particularly that of the New Testament. On the one hand is the Traditional Text from which the only major English translation is the King James Version of the Bible. The Traditional Text.

On the other hand, is the Critical Text sometimes called the eclectic text from whence all the other translations come. And some will say well there really is no difference between them. The difference you could amount to is just the footnotes in the bottom of a page. (This is Not true) He was not dishonest but just repeating what someone had told him.

SACRED LITERATURE: The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan

Note: Spurgeon was taught to read at a very early age and read The Pilgrim’s Progress for the first time when he was six years old. He would return to re-read it over 100 times. He made many references to it in his sermons as Pastor of The Metropolitan Tabernacle in London.

Excerpt from Sermon: II. § 5 THE SWEETNESS OF THIS MYSTERY,

WHICH IS CHRIST IN YOU

"Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me [Spurgeon] of Mr. Bunyan’s picture in The Pilgrim’s Progress. of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams [ancient weapons of war] had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melodies], for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart [main castle] he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.

Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven. Oh for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus; it is our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.
