DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
Bless our country, let every mercy rest upon the Sovereign [Monarchs of England, President of the USA]; send peace to disquieted districts; give wisdom to our senators in the making and in the seeing to, the keeping of the law. And may Thy kingdom come not here only, but in every land and nation. Lands across the flood remember with the plenitude [abundance] of Thy grace. Let the whole earth be filled with Thy glory. We ask it for Jesus’ sake [and in His name, Amen.]

ANECDOTE 334: July 6th A Preacher Converted.
You remember Rowland Hill’s Story in “The Village Dialogues,” about Mr. Merriman. Mr. Merriman was a sad scapegrace of a preacher; and was to be seen at every fair and revel [party], and used seldom [was seldom] to be found in his pulpit when he should have been.
But when by God’s Grace, he was converted, he began to preach with tears running down his face!
The Church soon became crowded, but the squire would not go—he even locked up his pew [seats]. So Mr. Merriman had a little ladder made outside the door [of his pew], as he did not wish to break it open, and the people used to sit on the steps, up one side and down the other, so that there was twice as much room as there was before!

Of all the stars in the sky the polestar [North Star] is the most useful to the mariner [sailor]. This text is a polestar, for it has guided more souls to salvation than any other Scripture. It is among promises what the Great Bear is among constellations. Several words in it shine with peculiar brilliance. Here we have God’s love, with a -so- to it, which marks its measureless greatness.
Then we have God’s gift in all its freeness and greatness. This also is God’s Son, that unique and priceless gift of a love which could never fully show itself till Heaven’s Only-begotten had been sent to live and die for men. These three points are full of light.
Then there is the simple requirement of believing, which graciously points to a way of salvation suitable for guilty men. This is backed by a wide description
-whosoever believeth in him.-
Many have found room in -whosoever- who would have felt themselves shut out by a narrower word.
Then comes the great promise, that believers in Jesus shall not perish, but have everlasting life. This is cheering to every man who feels that he is ready to perish, and that he cannot save himself. We believe in the Lord Jesus, and we have eternal life.
Prayer:Thank You Father, for Your promise of salvation. Help me trust in Jesus, Your only begotten Son. He is Your Word by which You will save and keep whosoever believes in Him according to your Word, The Bible. I pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus, Your Son, Amen.

MORNING July 6th
"Whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from
fear of evil. "— Proverbs 1:33

DIVINE love is rendered conspicuous when it shines in the midst of judgments [trials]. Fair [beautiful] is that lone star that smiles through the rifts [open space in a cloud mass] of the thunder clouds; bright is the oasis that blooms in the wilderness of sand; so fair and so bright is love in the midst of wrath [anger].
When the Israelites provoked the Most High by their continued idolatry He punished them by withholding both dew and rain so that their land was visited by a sore [severe] famine; but while He did this He took care that His own chosen ones should be secure. If all other brooks [streams] are dry, yet there will be one reserved for Elijah; and when that fails, God will still preserve for him a place of sustenance; [provision] but, not only this, the Lord had not simply one "Elijah," but He had a remnant [multiple chosen members] according to the election of grace, who were hidden by fifties in a cave, and though the whole land was subject to famine, yet these fifties in the cave were fed and fed from Ahab's table too by His faithful, God-fearing steward, Obadiah.
From this let us draw the inference that, come what may, God's people are safe. Let convulsions shake the solid earth, let the skies themselves be rent in twain [split in two], yet amid the wreck of worlds the believer will be as secure as in the calmest hour of rest.
If God cannot save His people under heaven, He will save them in heaven. If the world becomes too hot to hold them, then heaven will be the place of their reception and their safety.
Be then confident, when you hear of wars, and rumors of wars. Let no agitation distress you, but be quiet [at peace] from fear of evil. Whatsoever comes on the earth you, beneath the broad wings of Jehovah [God], will be secure.
Steady yourself on His promise; rest in His faithfulness, and bid defiance to the blackest [bleakest] future, for there is nothing in it direful [severe] for you.
Your sole concern should be to show forth to the world the blessedness of
heeding the voice of wisdom. [God’s Word]

EVENING July 6th
"How many are mine iniquities and sins?" —Job 13:23

HAVE you ever really weighed and considered how great the sin of God's people is? Think how heinous [horrible] your own transgression is and you will find that not only does a sin here and there tower up like an alp [high mountain], but that your iniquities are heaped on each other, as in the old fable of the giants who piled *Pelian upon Ossa, mountain upon mountain.
What an aggregate of sin there is in the life of one of the most sanctified of God's children! Attempt to multiply this, the sin of one only, by the multitude of the redeemed, "a number which no man can number," and you will have some conception of the great mass of the guilt of the people for whom Jesus shed His blood.
But we arrive at a more adequate idea of the magnitude of sin by the greatness of the remedy provided.
It is the blood of Jesus Christ, God's only and well-beloved Son. God's Son!
Angels cast their crowns before Him! All the choral symphonies of heaven surround his glorious throne.
"God over all, blessed forever. Amen."
And yet He takes on Himself the form of a servant and is scourged, pierced, bruised, torn, and at last slain since nothing but the blood of the incarnate Son of God could make atonement for our offences. No human mind can adequately estimate the infinite value of the divine sacrifice, for great as is the sin of God's people, the atonement that takes it away is immeasurably greater.
Therefore, the believer, even when sin rolls like a black flood and the remembrance of the past is bitter, can yet stand before the blazing throne of the great and holy God, and cry,
"Who is he that condemneth [condemns]? It is Christ that died; yea rather, that hath risen again."
While the recollection of his sin fills him with shame and sorrow, he at the same time makes it a foil [background] to show the brightness of mercy.
Guilt is the dark night in which the fair star of divine love shines with serene [holy, quiet and beautiful] splendor.

Today’s PRAISE music selections came to mind from today’s Anecdote, Faith’s Checkbook, and todays date for the birth of a Godly Nation built on God’s Word, The Holy Bible.
OUTWARD practical holiness is a very precious mark of grace. I fear that many have perverted the doctrine of justification by faith [in Jesus Christ] in such a way as to treat good works with contempt; if so, they will receive everlasting contempt at the last great day.
If our hands are not clean, let us wash them in Jesus' precious blood, and so let us lift up pure hands to God.
But "clean hands" will not suffice, unless they are connected with "a pure heart."
True religion [faith] is heart-work. We may wash the outside of the cup and the platter as long as we please, but if the inward parts be filthy, we are filthy altogether in the sight of God, for our hearts are more truly ourselves than our hands are; the very life of our being lies in the inner nature, and hence the imperative need of purity within.
The pure in heart shall see God, all others are but blind bats.
The man who is born for heaven "hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity." All men have their joys by which their souls are lifted up;
the worldling [“carnal man”] lifts up his soul in carnal delights which are mere empty vanities; but
the saint loves more substantial things.
Like Jehoshaphat, he is lifted up in the ways of the Lord.
He who is content with husks [pig slop] will be reckoned [counted] with the swine.
Does the world satisfy you? Then you have your reward and portion in this life; make the most of it, for you will know no other joy.
"Nor sworn deceitfully. " The saints are men of honor still. The Christian man's word is his only oath; but that is as good as twenty oaths of other men.
False speaking will shut any man out of heaven, for a liar will not enter into God's house, whatever may be his professions or doings.
Reader, are we condemned by false speaking or do we hope to ascend to the hill of the Lord [ZION] ?

A SINNER’S PRAYER
Whosoever shall call on the name of the lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
Pray and call on the name of the Lord Jesus, like this. Won’t you?
“Lord Jesus, I’m a sinner. I’m lost and hopeless to save myself. Without you and your blood that was shed for me and Your death on the cross I would spend eternity in Hell’s fire.
Thank you Lord Jesus that You love me and died for me before I was born and that You have always loved me and will never reject or turn your back on me. I know You are the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no one can come to the Father but by trusting in You.
Thank you, Father that You have caused me to see myself as I am; a lost sinner. But, because of Your love and goodness, You have made a way and given me the desire to come to You, to turn away from my sin and to trust in You, Lord Jesus. You took my place on the cross and provided the way for me to be forgiven. Thank You.
Thank You that You prompted a desire in me to believe in You, the only begotten Son of God who died on the cross to be the sacrifice that would atone for my sins.
Thank You, Father for Your love that allowed Jesus to suffer and die in my place. Thank You that You raised Jesus from the dead. He is RISEN and is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave and in Christ Jesus I am free.
You raised Jesus from the dead, gave Him a Glorified body and after he was seen by many witnesses on earth You took Him up to reign with You in heaven.
Thank you, Father, for saving me in the name, of Your only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Inside Story of Westcott and Hort:

In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,
thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort or Nestle & Aland.is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on defective text. Those who honor the Word of God must not promote any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is entirely evil in itself, but because being contented to use a weakened version rather than the existing, preserved, inerrant unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has preserved for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it must be to Him if His people now chose versions that are based on the defective and inferior Greek manuscript invented by Westcott & Hort or Nestle & Aland.

"Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me [Spurgeon's comment] of Mr. Bunyan’s picture of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melody] , for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.
Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven.
