PRAYER 12. Part 4 of 10

ON HOLY GROUND.

Oh! that today, even today, many hearts might be won to God. Convince men of the wrong of being alienated from God, put into their hearts sorrow for sin and dread [fear] of [the] wrath to come [destruction of the lost that will come], and lead and drive men to [Jesus] Christ.

Oh! how we pray for this, the salvation of our fellow-men, not so much for their sakes as for the sake of the glory of God and the rewarding of [Jesus] Christ for His [unspeakable] pain.

[In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ] Amen.

ANECDOTE 225: At Home in God’s Arms.

I had a great sorrow yesterday of speaking to a dear brother whom I had hoped would be spared for great usefulness in a distant land; but he had just received from the doctor’s examination the solemn information that he was hopelessly diseased. We proposed that he should go to the seaside; but I saw which way his heart went. He thought of his wife and his habitation, and he said, “Let me go home. If I must die, let it be in my own house.” He spoke as I should have done in like case. At home one might not have all the skill of the hospital at command; but one would be sure of a certain priceless tenderness which no nurse can rival. Lord, thou hast been my dwelling place: I will die in thy arms. When I am sick and weary there is none like thee, my God! When my heart breaks and all things seem lost, none can bind it up but thee, my God! ________________________________________

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK March 13 “DESPISE NOT THY YOUTH” C.H. Spurgeon 1834—1892

-Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak; for I am a child. But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak— Jeremiah1:6,7

-Y yo dije: ¡Ah! ¡ah! ¡Senor Jehova! He aqui, no se hablar, porque soy nino. Y dijome Jehova: No digas, soy nino; porque a todo lo que te enviare irás tu, y dirás todo lo que te mandaré— Jeremías 1:6,7

Jeremiah was young and felt a natural shrinking when sent upon a great errand [mission] by the Lord; but He who sent him would not have him say, -I am a child.- What he was in himself must not be mentioned, but lost in the consideration that he was chosen to speak for God. He had not to think out and invent a message, nor to choose an audience: he was to speak what God commanded, and speak where God sent him, and this he would be enabled to do in strength not his own.

Is it not so with some young preacher, or teacher who may read these lines? God knows how young you are, and how slender are your knowledge and experience; but if He chooses to send you, it is not for you to shrink from the heavenly call. God will magnify Himself in your feebleness. If you were as old as Methuselah, [He lived 969 years] how much would your years help you? If you were as wise as Solomon, you might be equally as willful [strong-willed] as he.

Keep you to your message [from God’s

word] and it will be your wisdom; follow your marching orders and they will be your discretion [wisdom].

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your word of guidance, - Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command the, thou shalt speak. Give me a holy boldness to go and speak where you command me in Jesus’ name, Amen.

MORNING March 13

"Why sit we here until we die? " [just waiting to die?] —2 Kings 7:3

¿Para qué nos estamos aquí hasta que muramos? —2 Reyes 7:3

DEAR reader, this little book was mainly intended for the edification [building up] of believers [in Jesus], but if you are yet unsaved, our heart yearns over you [feels you, is touched by you]: and we would gladly say a word that may be blessed to you. Open your Bible, and read the story of the lepers [incurable, dying untouchables] and mark their position, which was much the same as yours. If you remain where you are you must surely perish [die]; if you go to Jesus you can but [only] die [as well].

"Nothing venture, nothing win," [gained] is the old proverb, and in your case you have nothing to lose. If you sit still in sullen despair, no one can pity you when your ruin [end] comes; but if you die seeking mercy, if such a thing were possible, you would be the object of universal sympathy.

None escape who refuse to look to Jesus; but you know that some, at any rate, who believe in Him are saved, for certain [some] of your own acquaintances have received mercy: then why not you? The Ninevites said, "Who can tell? [Who knows?]" Act upon the same hope, and try [receive] the Lord's mercy.

To perish is so awful, that if there were but a straw to catch at [to keep you afloat], the instinct of self-preservation should lead you to stretch out your hand. We have thus been talking to you on your own unbelieving ground, and we would now assure you, as from the Lord, [Himself] that

if you seek Him, He will be found of you [you will find Him].

Jesus casts out [rejects] none who come to Him. You will not perish [die] if you trust Him; on the contrary, you will find treasure far richer than the poor lepers gathered in Syria's deserted camp [for the dying].

May the Holy Spirit embolden you to go at once, and you will not believe in vain. When you are saved yourself, publish [tell] the good news to others.

Hold not your peace

[don’t stay quiet about it]; tell the King's household [the local church assembly] first, and unite with them in fellowship; let the porter [door-keeper] of the city, the minister, be informed of your discovery [your new life], and then proclaim the good news in every place.

The Lord [Jesus] will save you before the sun goes down this day.

EVENING March 13

"Then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. " —Genesis 8:9 —Entonces él extendió su mano y cogiéndola, hízola entrar consigo en el arca —Génesis 8:9

WEARIED [worn] out with her wanderings, the dove returns at length [finally] to the ark as her only resting place. How heavily [with difficulty] she flies. She will drop; she will never reach the ark! But she struggles on. Noah has been looking out for his dove all day long, and is ready to receive her. She has just [enough] strength to reach the edge of the ark, she can hardly alight [land] on it, and is ready to drop, when Noah puts forth his hand and pulls her in unto him. Notice, he

"pulled her in unto him. "

She did not fly right in herself, but was too fearful, or too weary to do so. She flew as far as she could, and then he put forth his hand and pulled her in unto him. This act of mercy was shown to the wandering dove, and she was not chided [scolded] for her wanderings. Just as she was, she was pulled into the ark. So [it is with] you, seeking sinner, with all your sin, [you] will be received.

"Only return."

Those are God's two gracious words—"Only return." What, nothing else? No, " only return."

She had no olive branch in her mouth this time, nothing at all but just herself and her wanderings; but it is "only return," and she does return, and Noah pulls her in.

Fly, you wanderer; fly as the dove, you fainting one (though you think you are black as a raven with the mire of sin) fly back, back to the Savior. Every moment you wait only increases your misery; your attempts to plume [groom your feathers] yourself and make yourself fit for Jesus are all vanity [worthless]. Come to Him just as you are.

"Return, thou backsliding Israel."

He does not say, "Return, thou repenting Israel" (there is such an invitation doubtless [no doubt]), but "thou backsliding one." As a backslider with all your backslidings about you,

return, return, return!

Jesus is waiting for you! He will stretch forth His hand and "pull thee in"

—in to Himself, your heart's true home.

A SINNER’S PRAYER:   … FOR WHOSOEVER: [One and all]

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved     … pray like this, won’t you?

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am hopeless.  I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross for my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned to Hell. I have been  self-centered from birth.  Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m guilty and sorry for each and every sin I have done and look to You to forgive me of them all.
I look to You, alone  Lord Jesus to save me.
I call on You,  Lord Jesus, right now to save me.  You died on the cross for me, because of my sin  and You say,  “It shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21.

Right now, just as I am, I call on You, Lord Jesus to save me,  I trust You, to  be my Lord and Savior from now on.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have forgiven me of all my sins.  I ask You to abide in me and give me the desire to always follow You.
You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross.  Even the sins of the whole world.

Thank you,  Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me even before I was born and that You still love me now. I love You too.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that You have called me away from sin and death into the Life everlasting  in Your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave. Romans  8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [Holy Ghost, Comforter, Spirit of Truth]

Thank You for saving me heavenly Father. With all my heart, thank you Father for saving me in Jesus’ name,  Amen.

Allow us to share the joy of your new birth with heaven. Won’t you? Heaven rejoices over each redeemed sinner. Luke 15:7

MISSION STATEMENT:

Our aim is to be Christlike. We desire to fulfill the Great Commission in taking the GOOD NEWS of Salvation by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ [The Messiah] to every creature, making and baptizing disciples in the name of God the Father, Jesus the Christ and the Holy Ghost.

The Published Titles from Spurgeon that are included exclusively each day in the Devotion are:

·       C.H. Spurgeon Prayers

·       Spurgeon’s  Illustrative Anecdotes

·       Faith’s Checkbook

·       Morning & Evening

These titles are selected from the inspired body of work created from the preaching and writing of Charles Haddon Spurgeon 1834-1892. He created an excellent  legacy of gospel preaching and exposition and is known as the “Prince of Preachers”.  Spurgeon has been and is today widely read with great benefit from the 1800’s to this present time. He is the beloved founder of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, England (Still thriving TODAY through the faithful preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.)  [Click to live-stream current gospel preaching in real time each Sunday from London by Dr. Peter Masters, Metropolitan Tabernacle pastor since 1970.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, please bless Your disciples toward the winning of many souls, and help us to be loving and compassionate toward all who are in need, especially those in the household of faith. I pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and for His sake, Amen.

Disclaimer: The John Mark Publishing Company does not praise or exalt  Charles H. Spurgeon beyond the honor due him. He didn’t need or want it when he was on earth and would have no need or desire for it now. Our aim is to lift up and glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and to preach HIM and Him crucified.

Precaution: These Messages and prayers alone will not substitute for continual fellowship with the Lord Jesus. Neither do they replace personal reading, meditation, prayer and fasting over God's divinely preserved and eternal Word. (The King James version (KJV), known also as the Authorized Version (AV), is the preferred English Bible because its accuracy and fidelity to the Greek Textus Receptus [received text] and the Hebrew Masoretic Text) avoid doctrinal and editorial weaknesses found in many contemporary editions.

Prayer Selection by Spurgeon must not be offered as a substitute for personal, intimate fervent, heart-felt, prayer. It  is intended rather, to warm the hearts of those who are in prayer seeking a season of authentic two-way, heart-to-heart  fellowship and prayer with the Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit. Read from the NT Book of Romans Chapter 8.

VIDEO Explaining  the explosion [over 100] of English Translations of the Holy BIBLE      (Video)

Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort  (Text only)

URL:
https://www.febc.edu.sg/v15/article/def_the_inside_story_of_westcott_and_hort

In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

* Letters from close relatives are quoted in the Inside Story above

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,

thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on a defective text. Those who want to honor the Word of God must not promote the use of any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is evil in itself, but because the attitude of being contented to use a blemished version rather than an existing unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has taken the trouble to preserve for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it would be to Him if His people now chose instead to change over to a version that is based on a defective text.

Let the biblical story of Nadab and Abihu be a lesson to all:

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace. And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp. So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Moses had said. And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled” (Lev 10:1–6).
