And, blessed Lord, since Thou dost [do] permit Thy washed ones to come close to Thyself we would [desire to] approach Thee now with the courage which comes of faith and love, and ask of Thee this thing.

Help us to overcome every tendency to evil which is still within us, and enable us to wear *armor of such proof [strength] that the arrows of the enemy from without may not penetrate it, that we may not be wounded again by sin. [I ask this dear Lord in your name, Lord Jesus, Amen.]

ANECDOTE 328: June 30th SAVED BY A STRAY SERMON.

Many a sailor boy has been wild, reckless, Godless, Christless, and at last has got into a foreign hospital. Ah, if his mother knew that he was down with the yellow fever, how sad her mind would be, for she would conclude that her dear son will die away at Havana, [Cuba] or somewhere, and never come home again.

But it is just in that hospital that God means to meet with him. A sailor writes to me something like that. He says,

“My mother asked me to read a chapter [from the Bible] every day, but I never did. I got into the hospital at Havana, and, when I lay there, there was a man near to me who was dying, and he died one night; but before he died, he said to me,

‘Mate, could you come here?’ I want to speak to you. I have got something that is very precious to me here. I was a wild fellow, but reading this packet of sermons has brought me to the Savior, and I am dying with a good hope through grace.

Now, when I am dead and gone, will you take these sermons and read them, and may God bless them to you.

And will you write a letter to the man that preached and printed those sermons, to tell him that God blessed them to my conversion and that I hope he will bless them to yourself?”;

It was a packet of my sermons [Charles Spurgeon] and God did bless them to that young man who, I have no doubt whatever, went to that hospital because there a man who had been brought to Christ would hand to him the words which God had blessed to himself and would bless to his friend.

You do not know, dear mother, you do not know.

The worst thing that can happen to a young man in this world is sometimes the best thing that can happen to him.

Notwithstanding our sins the Lord is still faithful in His love to us. He looks back.

See how He remembers those early days of ours when He took us into covenant [The divine promise] with Himself, and we gave ourselves over to Him.

Happy days those! The Lord does not twit [discipline] us with them, and charge us with being insincere. No, He looks rather to His covenant with us than to our covenant with Him.

There was no hypocrisy in that sacred compact, on His part, at any rate. How gracious is the Lord thus to look back in love! He looks forward also.

He is resolved that the covenant shall not fail. If we do not stand to it [keep it], He does.

He solemnly declares,

“I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant.”

He has no mind to draw back from His promises. Blessed be His name, He sees the sacred seal, -the blood of the everlasting covenant, -and He remembers our Surety [Guarantor] , in whom He ratified that covenant, even His own dear Son; and therefore, He rests in His covenant [divinely promised] engagements.

-He abideth faithful; he cannot deny himself.-

O Lord, lay this precious word upon my heart, and help me to feed upon it all this day [today]!

Prayer: Thank You Father, for Your divine, eternal promise that is ours even though we are not fully developed. We know that You will keep Your word to us, even if we fail in keeping ours to You.

We confess our shortcomings and need for in Your name, Lord Jesus, Amen.

BEHOLD the superlative liberality of the Lord Jesus, for He has given us His all.

Although a tithe [tenth] of his possessions would have made a universe of angels rich beyond all thought,

Christ has put the flagon [large mug] of His love and grace to the believer's lip, and bidden him [asked him to] drink on forever; for could he [if he could] drain it, he is welcome to do so, and as he cannot exhaust it [drink it all], he is bidden [Asked] to drink abundantly, for it is all his own.

What truer proof of fellowship can heaven or earth give?

When I stand before the throne

AT the very time when the Chaldeans [an enemy nation] surrounded Jerusalem, and when the sword, famine and pestilence had desolated the land, Jeremiah was commanded by God to purchase a field, and have the deed of transfer legally sealed and witnessed.

This was a strange purchase for a rational man to make. Prudence could not justify it, for it was buying with scarcely a probability that the person purchasing could ever enjoy the possession. But it was enough for Jeremiah that his God had commanded him, for well he knew that God will be justified of all His children.

He reasoned thus. "Ah, Lord God! You can make this plot of ground of use to me; you can rid this land of these oppressors; you can make me yet sit under my vine and my fig tree in the heritage I have bought; for You made the heavens and the earth, and there is nothing too hard for You."

This gave a majesty to the earthly saints, so that they dared to do things at God's command that carnal reasoning would condemn.

Whether it be a Noah who is to build a ship on dry land,

an Abraham who is to offer up his only son,

a Moses who is to despise the treasures of Egypt, or

a Joshua who is to besiege Jericho seven days, using no weapons but the

blasts of rams' horns,

they all act upon God's command, contrary to the dictates of carnal reason, [Worldly Wise Man] and the Lord gives [gave] them a rich reward as the result of their obedient faith. Would to God we had a more potent infusion of this heroic faith in God in these modern times. If we would venture more on the naked promise of God, we would enter a world of wonders to which we are strangers as yet.

Let Jeremiah's place of confidence be ours— nothing is too hard for the God that created the heavens and the earth.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF HIS NAME?

(1 One) His Name is INCOMPREHENSIBLE!

Exodus 3:13-15 “13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. 15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.”

The Critical Text vs. The Traditional Text

So, Dr. Sorenson, “I hear You are King James Only.”

No, I’m Traditional Text only. But if you come to the view and the conviction of being Traditional Text only, you will be Only King James.

The issue is not translational.

Marketing ploys by publishing companies with little basis in reality would have us to believe that the new versions are:

Easier to read.
More modern.
More accurate (Not true)

The truth is that the KJV remains The most popular. (is still the most popularly read Bible in America). Over five billion copies of the King James (1769) is greater than all the other versions and editions combined.

The issue comes down to the textual issue. By That, I refer to the underlying Greek text. I guess we could say texts, plural but particularly that of the New Testament. On the one hand is the Traditional Text from which the only major English translation is the King James Version of the Bible. The Traditional Text.

On the other hand, is the Critical Text sometimes called the eclectic text from whence all the other translations come. And some will say well there really is no difference between them. The difference you could amount to is just the footnotes in the bottom of a page. (This is Not true) He was not dishonest but just repeating what someone had told him.

Note: Spurgeon was taught to read at a very early age and read The Pilgrim’s Progress for the first time when he was six years old. He would return to re-read it over 100 times. He made many references to it in his sermons as Pastor of The Metropolitan Tabernacle in London.

It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams [ancient weapons of war] had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melodies], for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart [main castle] he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.

Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven. Oh for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus; it is our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.
