PRAYER 12   Part 2 of 10

ON HOLY GROUND

With lowliest [most humble] reverence, with truest love, we worship God in Christ Jesus, uniting therein with all the redeemed host [soldiers of the Cross] above, with angels and principalities and powers. We cannot cast crowns at His feet, for we have none as yet, but if there be any virtue, if there be any praise, if there be about us anything of grace and good repute, we ascribe [attribute ] it all to God.  We cannot veil our faces with our wings, for we have none, but we veil them with something better than angelic wings, 

the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ.

With these we cover our faces, with these we cover our feet, and with these we fly up to God in holiest fellowship of  God.  Glory, and honor, and power, and dominion be unto Him  that sitteth [sits] upon the throne, and unto the Lamb [of God] forever and forever in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

ANECDOTE 71:  Christ’s Delight in His People.

When Cyrus took the Greek ambassador through his garden, he challenged him to admire its charms. The Spartan [a Greek from Sparta] approved all he saw, but still his admiration was cool and critical. 

“This garden,” said its master,  “yields me more pleasure and satisfaction than you can imagine or I can express.”  “And why [is that]?” asked the visitor. “Because,” replied Cyrus, “I planted every tree in it myself. I planned all the paths, and all the flowers have I reared. No hand but mine has dug the soil, tended the plants, pruned the trees, or done aught [anything]  beside, but my own.”
      

His toil and his trouble thus endeared the place to the king. So, truly, Christ can say when he looks upon his people, “There is a fruitful bough there: I pruned that. He was sick, long laid aside from business,  he feared his family would starve: I was pruning him then; but I love the fruit that is on him because I know how it came there. That plant yonder which is blooming now and shedding such a sweet perfume of love, well do I recollect when it was drooping and ready to die. I came and watered it. The, timid disciple, would say,

“Blessed be the gentle hand that shed the dew and poured nourishment on my poor, parched, and withered root !”

Yes, the Savior gives us  “grace for grace ” that we may produce grace. I leave the thought with you for meditation, and the issues for your edification, 

only praying earnestly

that his Holy Spirit may work in you “grace for grace.”

Our strength is far better in God than in self.  In the Lord it causes fellowship, in ourselves it would create pride. In ourselves it would be sadly limited, but in God it knows no bounds [limits]. When strength is given, the believer uses it. He walks up and down in the name of the Lord. What an enjoyment it is to walk abroad [outside] after an illness, and what a delight to be strong in the Lord after a season of prostration [bed-rest]!  The Lord gives His people liberty to walk up and down, and an inward leisure [freedom] to exercise that liberty. He makes gentlemen of us: we are not slaves who know no rest, and see no sights, but we are free to travel at our ease throughout Immanuel’s land. 

Come, my heart, be thou no more [don’t continue to be] sick and sorry, [sick and tired] Jesus bids thee [asks you to] be strong, and walk with God in holy contemplation [meditation].  Obey His word of love.

Prayer:  Thank You dear Lord Jesus that You strengthen us and allow us to live and move in the protection of Your name; Your very name, Amen.

MORNING     October 11

"Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens. " Lamentations 3:41
 

THE act of prayer teaches us our unworthiness, which is a very salutary [health giving] lesson for such proud beings as we are. If God gave us favors without constraining us to prathemwe should never know how poor we are, but a true prayer is an inventory of wants, a catalog of necessities,  a revelation of hidden poverty. While it is an application to divine wealth, it is [also] a confession of human emptiness. The most healthy state of a Christian is to be always empty in self and constantly depending on the Lord for supplies, to be always poor in self and rich in Jesus,

weak as water personally, but mighty through God to do great exploits. 
         
And hence, the use of prayer, because, while it adores God, it lays the creature where it [we] should be, in the very dust. Prayer is in itself, apart from the answer which it brings, a great benefit to the Christian. As the runner gains strength for the race by daily exercise, so for the great race of life we acquire energy by the hallowed [holy]  labor of prayer. Prayer plumes [fully-feathers-out] the wings of God's young eaglets, that they may learn to mount above the clouds. Prayer girds the loins [tightens the belt]  of God's warriors and sends them forth to combat with their sinews [arms and legs] braced and their muscles firm. An earnest pleader comes out of his [prayer] closet, even as the sun arises from the chambers of the east, rejoicing  like a strong man to run his race. Prayer is that uplifted hand of Moses that routs [overwhelms and puts to flight] the Amalekites more than the sword of Joshua; it is the arrow shot from [within] the chamber of the prophet, foreboding [prophesying] defeat to the Syrians.

Prayer girds human weakness with divine strength, turns human folly into heavenly wisdom, and gives to troubled mortals the peace of God. We know not what prayer cannot do!  We thank you, great God, for the mercy seat, a choice proof of your marvelous loving-kindness.

Help us to use it aright throughout this day!

EVENING   October 11

"Whom He did predestinate, them He also called.  Romans 8:30

IN the second epistle [letter from Paul] to Timothy, first chapter, and ninth verse, are these words:

"Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling." [not a question but a statement of fact] Now, here is a touchstone [divine standard] by which we may try [test] our calling. It is "an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace." This calling forbids all trust in our own doings and conducts us to Christ alone for salvation, but it afterwards purges us from dead works [in order] to serve the living and true God. As He that hath called you is holy, so must you be holy.

If you are living in sin you are not called, but if you are truly Christ's you can say,  "Nothing pains me so much as sin; I desire to be rid of it;

Lord, help me to be holy." 

Is this the panting [breathless desire] of your heart? Is this the tenor [character] of your life towards God and His divine will?

Again, in Philippians, 3:13, 14, we are told of  "The high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Is then your calling a high calling? Has it ennobled your heart, and set it on heavenly things? Has it elevated your hopes, your tastes, your desires?  Has it upraised the constant tenor [character] of your life, so that you spend it with God and for God?

Another test we find in Hebrews 3:1  —"Partakers of the heavenly calling." Heavenly calling means a call from heaven.  If man alone calls you, you are uncalled. Is your calling of God? Is it a call to[jM1]  heaven as well as from heaven? Unless you are a stranger here, and heaven your home, you have not been called with a heavenly calling; for those who have been so called, declare that they look for a city that has foundations, whose builder and maker is God, and they themselves are strangers and pilgrims upon the earth.

Is your calling thus holy, high, heavenly?  Then, beloved, you have been called of God, for such is the calling wherewith God calls His people.

 A SINNER’S  PRAYER

Whosoever shall call on the name of the lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

 Pray and call on the name of the Lord Jesus, like this. Won’t you? 

“Lord Jesus, I’m a sinner. I’m lost and hopeless to save myself. Without you and your blood that was shed for me and Your death on the cross  I would spend eternity in Hell’s fire.

Thank you Lord Jesus that You love me and died for me before I was born and that You have always loved me and will never reject or turn your back on me. I know You are the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no one can come to the Father but by You.  

Thank you, Father that You have caused for me to see myself as I am; a lost sinner.  But,  because of Your love and goodness, You have made a way and given me the desire to come to You, to turn away from my sin and to trust in You, Lord Jesus.  You took my place on the cross and provided the way for  me to be forgiven. Thank You.
Thank You that You prompted a desire in me to believe in You, the only begotten  Son of God who died on the cross to be the sacrifice that would  atone for my sins.

Thank You, Father for Your love that allowed Jesus to suffer and die in my place. Thank You that You raised Jesus from the dead. He is RISEN and is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave and in Christ Jesus I am free.

You raised Jesus from the dead, gave Him a Glorified body and after he was seen by many witnesses on earth You took Him up to reign with You  in heaven.  

Thank you, Father,  for saving me in the name, of Your only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, that you always give witness to and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ. 
John 16:8-11

With all my heart, thank you Lord for saving me.

His ministry continues to flourish from the original (Spurgeon’s)  Metropolitan Tabernacle,  a church fellowship began in 1650 with the present  building constructed by members of the congregation in 1861 and rebuilt after the second world war..

        Spurgeon's written materials are for the edification of the church body as well as a great benefit, blessing and challenge to all readers. Our desire is that the written Word of God will become the Living  Word in each and every reader. God has preserved His Word in The Masoretic Hebrew of the Old Testament and the GreekTextus Receptus of the New Testament:
 

In contrast, the Incomplete and unsealed codices of Sinaiticus and Vaticanus are not translated from the  over 5,312 Majority Text Greek manuscripts, that became the Textus Receptus [Original Masoretic Hebrew and the Greek Textus Receptus]. Sinaiticus and Vaticanus present variant, ambiguous and erroneous readings rather than that of the well-established and settled texts. They disagree often with one another as well as with the settled majority texts. Thus, an attempt to create a pretext that will continue to justify a never-ending demand for additional editions and interpretations. These unsettled differences and bias in certain sectarian doctrine [dogma] have led to the production of multiple “modern” editions with ambiguities, many variant readings and confusion from the explosion of unending, new editions.

Profit-driven publishers have embraced such an economic windfall to sell a continual flow of “new and better” English edition of The Bible. They give too little attention to the fidelity and accuracy already settled [in heaven] in majority manuscripts of the Masoretic Hebrew and the  Greek Textus Receptus.

God, Himself, providentially protects and preserves His Word. His Word is the God-breathed, self-authenticating, immutable [unchanging and unchangeable], eternal, inerrant, infallible, infinite and all-powerful Word, settled in heaven. He is not the author of confusion.

The above link is to search for specific words or Scriptures in the King James inerrant and infallible  English Version  (KJV)  because it is providentially protected and preserved by GOD Himself through the only translation into English by faithful brethren from the 5,312 established majority text manuscripts MT from which the New Testament  Greek Textus Receptus [received text] was taken  and the Hebrew Masoretic Text of the Old Testament (Jewish Tanakh).  These manuscripts are providentially protected, and give greater glory to God when compared to the variant readings of all post KJV  translations. Modern Critical Texts are based on only 55 hand picked Greek manuscripts fabricated from either Westcott and Hort or Nestle and Aland. Both of these Greek textual sources make the assumption that OLDER IS BETTER. Of course, this assumption is not valid in any place   the older manuscripts err from the Textus Receptus..

The established majority manuscripts and the Textus Receptus avoid doctrinal error, and inaccuracies in translation, uninspired editorial notations, variant or ambiguous readings which taken from Codices Vaticanus, or Sinaiticus.

Copyright: The King James Version is also distinguished by the requirement of Great Brittan that all King James bibles be printed by the Cambridge University Press, the Crown’s authorized printer. No one other than the Crown’s printer, is allowed print, copy or import the King James Bible into Great Brittan by order of the Crown.

In the United States there is no Copyright protection to restrict the free printing of the KJV. It is the only Bible version that may be printed freely as Public Domain. Any  new publication that changes 10% or more of any existing  publication may procure a lucrative Copyright protection to restrict unauthorized printing of the new publication. Therefore,  the NKJV, NIV and many other modern  translations. Only the King James Version New Testament is unique from among the over 100 English translations that follow modern textual criticism and only the King James is faithfully translated from the well-established  Greek Textus Receptus as the  Primary time tested and self-authenticating Greek Source.

In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,

thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort or Nestle & Aland.is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on  defective text. Those who honor the Word of God must not promote any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is entirely  evil in itself, but because being contented to use a weakened version rather than the existing, preserved, inerrant unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has preserved for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it must  be to Him if His people now chose versions that are  based on  the defective and inferior  Greek manuscript  invented  by Westcott & Hort or Nestle & Aland.

Let the biblical story of Nadab and Abihu be a lesson for us all:
