Note: The New King James Version NKJV and all other versions  that are NOT  translated from  the Textus Receptus [Received Text] are  inferior to the  translations of the  1769 [1611] King James Version, KJV and the Geneva Bible.  Only these two translations have remained  faithful to the traditional Textus Receptus.

1 John 4:1-3

Beloved ones, don’t be believing every spirit [everyone or everything] you hear but be testing the spirit [voice] whether it is of God: because many false prophets have gone [come] out into the world. Here’s how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit [voice] that confesses [avows] that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh, having come[who came] out of God, is of God: and every spirit that confesses not [doesn’t audibly avow] that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

 I therefore and hereby confess, out-loud, that Jesus Christ is come            [is here] in the flesh.

 

[All translations of the Bible that use a Greek text other than the traditional Textus Receptus translate  by ignoring  “ictin” (the Greek word for “is”).  This omission causes a change in  meaning from “is come” [is here] to “has come”.

This error is self-evident due to the fact that  non-believers, false prophets and even heretics can, and frequently  do, say that He “has come” in the flesh.

 

While this is true at face value, this meaning  does not render a valid test that will discern between the Spirit of God and the spirit of antichrist.  

The most well documented fact in all recorded human history is that Jesus. the Christ [Messiah]  has come in the flesh. The essential question to be ascertained, however, is not whether the spirit [words or person] being tested confess that Jesus Christ “has come” in the flesh but, it is of essential importance, to discern  whether Jesus Christ, “is here, from God, in the flesh.”

 

Ephesians 5:30-32

30 for we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32

 

This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Compare, here, scripture with scripture: “I speak concerning Christ and the church.” [the fleshly embodiment, here, of the body of Christ].

Baptism is not essential for salvation. Remember, Jesus said to the thief on the cross, who acknowledged Jesus’ innocence and said to him. “Remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Verily [Truly] I say to you, Today you shall be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43

The act of Baptism pictures the Lord’s death and resurrection and by extension through identification with Him, also pictures the believer’s death to self, atonement, and new, born-again life.

Baptism in the preaching of John the Baptist is that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand and that Repentance from sin and the Baptism of atonement is required for salvation and is to be followed to fulfil all righteousness.

We Worship The Lord Jesus Christ (Messiah) in Spirit and in truth in  prayer, Bible readings, scriptural meditation, gospel preaching, singing of sacred hymns and songs.

Is dailyspurgeon.com   trustworthy? 

There are only three primary Greek texts from which translations are made.

Westcott & Hort and  Nestle & Aland created their own Greek text rather than using the traditional Textus Receptus, rendered from the 5,321 extant Greek manuscripts,  known as  the Majority Text.

Instead,they used their own Greek  translations that they created with the use of only a handful [45] Greek manuscripts hand picked from  the 5,321 Majority Texts.

Their Greek translation  has allowed variant and misguided readings and diminishes honor and glory due only to GOD and is therefore faulty. 

 

Translations other than King James overlook the original Greek verb “ictin” [To be] [is] (third person singular) that is translated in virtually all Majority Texts MT and  subsequently in the Textus Receptus [Received Text] therefore they   fail to correctly translate  the Greek verb  as, “Is come” [Is here].  (When it’s ranslated aright from the Received Text (TR)  in the King James Version only) 

This  error occurs  because the  modern critical Greek text, created by Westcott & Hort and Nestles & Alland DO NOT follow the  MT [Majority Texts] of 5,321 Greek manuscripts that  affirm substantial majorityagreement with one another.   The TR  [Textus Receptus] is rendered from this overwhelming body of agreement from Majority Text of primary manuscript sources.

Both Westcott & Hort and Nestles & Aland have omitted the verb “is”, from the Greek text. This error may be described as res ipsa loquitur meaning the thing speaks for itself.

 Therefore, the alternate Greek  fabrications generated by these two sources are not actually translations at all but their own  creations.

How do we know? 

Because non-believers and false prophets can indeed, and often do, affirm that Jesus Christ “has come” in the flesh. Practically anyone can  make this confession as the  birth of Jesus Christ is considered by virtually all respected historians to be the most well documented fact in history. That He has come is generally acknowledged by nonbelievers and believers alike.   However, here’s the point. There is a huge difference between “Has come” and “Is Here”. “Has come” falls woefully short of the essential and clear meaning of the confession “Is Here”. Just because something “has come” it can not be assumed, inferred or deduced that it also “is here”.

The “has come” assertion is not surprising nor is it, per se, a false statement. Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. However, this  fails to present a  Rubric necessary to discern whether the sprit [voice] being tested [tried] is from God or from false prophets in the spirit of antichrist. 

Again, the expression “has come” rather than  “is come” [is here]  is not, per se a false statement.

However, it fails to deliver a valid hypothesis, proffered and inferred in the contextfor scriptural discernment. The failure here  to establish a logical and rhetorically sound rubric to judge  the question of whether spirits [words] are from God or from false prophets and the spirit of antichrist is absent.

Namely, “has come” is such a wide-spread belief held to be historically true by all, it does not provide a sound standard to discern whether a spirit [spoken or written words]  are from God or the spirit of Antichrist.

Almost anyone [or any spirit] can declare that Jesus Christ “has come” in the flesh. But as you can see, this does not resolve the issue of whether something should or should not be believed or followed. Why?  Once again,  because almost anyone can and often does confess that Jesus Christ “has come” in the flesh. This is an insufficient standard. The standard must be whether the confession that Jesus is here  alone, gives an efficacious standard to discern truth from error.

Again, while it is  true that Jesus Christ “has come” in the flesh, this alone is inadequate to discern truth from error. “Has come” does not mean the same thing as “is come [is here],  from God, in the flesh” and therefore fails to be efficacious for true spiritual discernment as outlined in 1 John Chapter 4: 1-3.

Furthermore, as we  compare  Scripture with  scripture in 1 John 4:1-3 and  Ephesians 5:30-32 

we comprehend God’s message regarding  the body of Jesus Christ  being in the Flesh vis-à-vis The Body of Christ, The Corporate Church.

THE WONDERS [of]  CALVARY. [The Cross]

            Oh! [LORD]  bring us, then, we pray Thee now, near to Thyself. Let us bathe ourselves in communion with [Yourself] our God. Blessed be the love which chose us before the world began. We can never sufficiently adore Thee [You]  for Thy [Your] sovereignty, the sovereignty of love which saw us in the ruins of the Fall [caused in the original sin of Adam], yet loved us notwithstanding all.

 

We praise [You], the God of the Eternal Council Chamber and of the Everlasting Covenant, but where shall we find sufficiently fit words with which to praise Him [You] who gave us grace in Christ [Jesus] His [Your] Son, before He [You] spread [created] the starry sky. 

 

We also bless Thee, O God, as the God of our redemption, for Thou hast [You have] so loved us as to give even Thy [Your] dear Son for us. He gave Himself, His very life for us that He might redeem us from all iniquity and separate us unto Himself to be His peculiar people, zealous for good works.  Never can we sufficiently adore free grace and dying love. The wonders of Calvary [the Cross]  never cease to be wonders, they are growingly marvelous in our esteem as we think of Him who washed us from our sins in His own blood.

 

Nor can we cease to praise [We can’t stop praising] the God of our regeneration who found us dead and made us [to] live, found us at enmity and reconciled us, found us loving the things of this world and lifted us out of the slough and mire of selfishness and worldliness into the love of divine everlasting things.

ANECDOTE 29:  August 29th The Triumph of Jesus.
           When a Roman general had performed great feats in a foreign country, his highest reward was that the Senate should decree him a triumph. Of course, there was a division of spoil made on the battle-field, and each soldier and each captain took his share; but every man looked forward rapturously to the day when they should enjoy the public triumph. On a set day the gates of Rome were thrown open; the houses were all decorated; the people climbed to the roofs, or stood in great crowds along the streets. The gates were opened, and by and by the first legion began to stream in with its banners flying, and its trumpets sounding. The people saw the stern warriors as they marched along the street returning from their blood-red fields of battle. After one half of the army had thus defiled [marched in] , your eye would rest upon one who was the center of all attraction : riding in a noble chariot, drawn by milk-white horses, there came the conqueror himself, crowned with the laurel crown [of victory] and standing erect.

 

Chained to his chariot were the kings and mighty men of the regions which he had conquered. Immediately behind them came part of the booty [conquered treasure] . There were carried the ivory and the ebony, and the beasts of the different countries which he had subdued. After these came the rest of the soldiery, a long, long stream of valiant men, all of them sharing the triumphs of their captain. Behind them came banners, the old flags which had floated aloft in the battle, the standards which had been taken from the enemy. And after these, large painted emblems of the great victories of the conqueror. Upon one there would be a huge map depicting the rivers which he had crossed, or the seas through which his navy had found their way. Everything was represented in a picture, and the populace gave a fresh shout as they saw the memorial of each triumph. And behind, with the trophies, would come the prisoners of less eminent rank. Then the rear would be closed with sound of trumpet, adding to the acclamation of the throng. It was a noble day for old Rome. Children would never forget those triumphs; they would reckon their years from the time of one triumph to another. High holiday was kept. Women cast down flowers before the conqueror, and he was the true monarch of the day.

 

Now, our apostle had evidently seen such a triumph, or read of it, and he takes this as a representation of what Christ did on the cross. He says,“ Jesus made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Have you ever thought that the cross could be the scene of a triumph? Most of the old commentators can scarcely conceive it to be true. They say, “This must certainly refer to Christ’s resurrection and ascension.” But, nevertheless, so saith the Scripture, even on the cross Christ enjoyed a triumph. Yes! while those hands were bleeding, the acclamations of angels were being poured upon his head. Yes, while those feet were being rent [torn] with the nails, the noblest spirits in the world were crowding round him with admiration. And when upon that blood-stained cross he died in agonies unutterable, there was heard a shout such as never was heard before for the ransomed in heaven, and all the angels of God with loudest harmony chanted his praise.

 

Then was sung, in fullest chorus, the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, for he had indeed cut Rahab and sorely wounded the dragon.

 

Sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously. The Lord shall reign for ever and ever,

 King of kings, and Lord of lords.

PLENTIFUL REFRESHMENT

           Oh, to have one’s soul under heavenly cultivation; no longer a wilderness, but a garden of the Lord!  Enclosed from the waste, walled around by grace, planted by instruction, visited by love, weeded by heavenly discipline, and guarded by divine power, one’s favored soul is prepared to yield fruit unto the Lord. 

 

But a garden may become parched for want of water, and then all its herbs decline [go limp], and are ready to die. O my soul, how soon would this be the case were the Lord to leave thee! In the East, a garden without water soon ceases to be a garden at all: nothing can come to perfection, grow, or even live. When irrigation is kept up, the result is charming. Oh, to have one’s  soul watered by the Holy Spirit uniformly - every part of the garden having its own stream; plentifully - a sufficient refreshment coming to every tree and herb [plant], however thirsty by nature it may be; continually -each hour bringing not only its heat,  but its refreshment; wisely - each plant receiving just what it needs. In a garden you can see by the verdure [green-ness] where the water flows, and you can soon perceive when the Spirit of God comes.

 

Prayer: O Lord, water me this day, and cause me to yield thee a full reward, for Jesus  sake. Amen.

 

Thank You Father, that You water me today and keep my soul as a watered garden that is walled around by grace, planted by instruction, visited by love, weeded by heavenly discipline, and guarded by Your divine power. Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me. In Jesus name, Amen.

        WHEN Dr. [William] Carey [missionary of the 18th century] was suffering from a dangerous illness, the inquiry was made, "If this sickness should prove fatal, what passage would you select as the text for your funeral sermon?" He replied, "Oh, I feel that such a poor sinful creature is unworthy to have anything said about him; but if a funeral sermon must be preached let it be from the words,

 

'Have mercy upon me, 0 God, according to Thy loving-kindness; according unto the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.' "

 

 In the same spirit of humility he directed in his will that the following inscription and nothing more should be cut on his gravestone:
 

“WILLIAM CAREY, BORN AUGUST 17th, 1761:  DIED…

A wretched, poor, and helpless worm
On Thy kind arms I fall."

(He died on June 9th 1834,  10 days before Charles Spurgeon was born)

Only on the footing of free grace can the most experienced and most honored of the saints approach their God. The best of men are conscious above all others that they are men at the best. Empty boats float high [on the water], but heavily laden vessels are low in the water; mere professors can boast [brag], but true children of God cry for mercy on their unprofitableness. We have need that the Lord should have mercy on our good works, our prayers, our preaching, our almsgivings [tithes and offerings], and our holiest things. The blood was not only sprinkled on the doorposts of Israel's dwelling houses, but on the sanctuary, the mercy-seat, and the altar, because as sin intrudes into our holiest things, the blood of Jesus is needed to purify them from defilement. If mercy is needed to be exercised towards our duties, what shall be said of our sins? How sweet the remembrance that inexhaustible mercy is waiting to be gracious to us, to restore our backslidings, and make our broken bones rejoice!

EVENING    August 29th

       NAZARITES had taken, among others, one vow that debarred [restricted] them from the use of wine. In order that they might not violate the obligation, they were forbidden to drink the vinegar of wine or strong liquors, and to make the rule still more clear, they were not to touch the unfermented juice of grapes, nor even to eat the fruit either fresh or dried [raisins]. In order, altogether, to secure the integrity of the vow, they were not even allowed anything that had to do with the vine; they were, in fact, to avoid the appearance of evil.

 

Surely this is a lesson to the Lord's separated ones [believers], teaching them to come away from sin in
every form, to avoid not merely its grosser shapes, but even its spirit and similitude [similarity]. Strict walking [Walking the walk, the straight and narrow] is much despised in these days, but rest assured, dear reader, it is both the safest and the happiest. He who yields a point or two to the world is in fearful peril; he who eats the grapes of Sodom will soon drink the wine of Gomorrah.

 

A little crevice in the dike in Holland lets in the sea, and the gap speedily swells till a province is drowned.

 

Worldly conformity, in any degree, is a snare to the soul, and makes it more and more liable to presumptuous sins. Moreover, as the Nazarite who drank grape juice could not be quite sure whether it might not have endured a degree of fermentation, and consequently could not be clear in heart that his vow was intact, so the yielding, temporizing [contemporary] Christian cannot wear a conscience void of offense, but must feel that the inward monitor [conscience activated by the Holy Spirit] is in doubt of him.

 

Things doubtful we need not doubt about; they are wrong to us. Things tempting we must not dally [consider, entertain or play] with, but flee from them with speed.

 

Better be sneered at as a Puritan than be despised as a hypocrite. Careful walking may involve much self-denial, but it has pleasures of its own which are more than a sufficient recompense [payment].
