PRAYER 13, Part 1 of 11
THE WINGS OF PRAYER.
OUR Father, Thy children who know Thee delight themselves in Thy presence. We are never happier than when we are near Thee. We have found a little heaven in prayer. It has eased our load to tell Thee of its weight; it has relieved our wound to tell Thee of its smart [pain]; it has restored our spirit to confess to Thee its wanderings. [There’s] No place like the mercy seat for us. We thank Thee, Lord, that we have not only found benefit in prayer, but in the answers to it we have been greatly enriched. Thou hast [have] opened Thy hid [hidden] treasures to the voice of prayer.
[Thank You, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ] Amen.

ANECDOTE 229: Give God the Rudder.
True wisdom is sure to set folly [foolishness] in a strong light. I have heard of a young man who went to college; and when he had been there one year, his parent said to him, “What do you know ? Do you know more than when you went ?” “Oh ! yes,” said he, “I do.”
Then he went the second year, and was asked the same question “Do you know more than when you went ?” “Oh ! no,” said he, “I know a great deal less.” “Well,” said the father, “you are getting on.” [doing well]
Then he went the third year, and was asked the same question
“What do you know now?”
“Oh!” said he, “I don t think I know anything.”
That is right,” said the father; “you have now learnt [learned] to profit from Your learning], since you say you know nothing.”
He who is convinced that he knows nothing of himself as he ought to know, gives up steering his ship, and
lets God put his hand on the rudder.

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK MARCH 20 DIVINE PROVISION C.H. Spurgeon 1834-1892
-Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith- Matthew 6:30
-Y si la hierba del campo que hoy es, y manana es echada en el horno, Dios la viste asi, ¿no hará mucho mas a vosotros, hombres de poca fe?- Mateo 6:30
Clothes are expensive, and poor believers may be led into anxiety as to where their next suit will come from. The [shoe] soles are thin; how shall we get new shoes? See how our thoughtful Lord has provided against this care. Our heavenly Father clothes the grass of the field with a splendor such as Solomon could not equal: will He not clothe His own children? We are sure He will.
There may be many a patch and a darn [mended hole], but raiment [clothing] we shall have.
A poor minister found his clothes nearly threadbare, and so far gone that they would hardly hold together; but as a servant of the Lord he expected his Master to find him his livery [a suit fit for a pastor].
It so happened that the writer on a visit to a friend had the loan of the good man’s pulpit, and it came into his mind to make a collection for him, and there was his suit. Many other cases we have seen in which those who have served the Lord have found Him considerate of their wardrobe. He who made man so that when he had sinned, he needed garments, also in mercy supplied him with them; and those which the Lord gave to our first parents [Adam and Eve] were far better than those they made for themselves. Thank you, Lord, that You provide clothing for your children,
Even to we who have but little faith.

MORNING March 20
"My beloved. "—Song of Solomon 2:8
—Mi amado!—Cantares 2:8
THIS was a golden name which the ancient Church in her most joyous moments was accustomed to giving to the Anointed of the Lord. When the time of the singing of birds was come, and the voice of the turtle dove was heard in her land, her love note was sweeter than either, as she sang,
"My beloved is mine and I am His: He feedeth [eats] among the lilies."
Ever in her song of songs does she call Him by that delightful name,
"My beloved!"
Even in the long winter, when idolatry had withered the garden of the Lord, her prophets found space to lay aside the burden of the Lord for a little season, and to say, as Esaias did,
"Now will I sing to my well-beloved a song of my beloved touching His vineyard."
Though the saints had never seen His face, though, as yet, He was not made flesh nor had dwelt among us, nor had man beheld His glory, yet He was the consolation of Israel, the hope and joy of all the chosen,
The "beloved"
of all those who were upright before the Most High. We, in the summer days of the Church, customarily speak of Christ as the best beloved of our soul, and feel that He is very precious, the
"chiefest among ten thousand, and the altogether lovely."
So true is it that the Church loves Jesus, and claims Him as her beloved, that the apostle dares to defy the whole universe to separate her from the love of Christ, and declares that
neither persecutions,
distress,
affliction,
peril, or the sword have been able to do it.
He joyously boasts,
"In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us."
0 that we knew more of Him, the ever precious one!
My sole possession is Thy love;
In earth beneath, or heaven above,
I have no other store;
And though with fervent suit I pray,
And importune [appeal to] Thee day by day,
I ask Thee nothing more.

EVENING March 20
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church. " —Ephesians 5:25
¾Maridos, amad á vuestras mujeres, así como Cristo amó á la iglesia— Efesios 5:25
WHAT a golden example Christ gives to His disciples! Few masters could venture to say, "If you would practice my teaching, imitate my life." But the life of Jesus is the exact transcript of perfect virtue, and He can point to Himself as the paragon [essence] of holiness, as well as the teacher of it.
The Christian should take nothing short of Christ for his model. Under no circumstances ought we to be content unless we reflect the grace that was in Him.
As a husband, the Christian is to look on the portrait of Christ Jesus, and he is to paint according to that copy. The true Christian is to be the kind of a husband that Christ was to His church. The love of a husband is special. The Lord Jesus cherishes the church with a peculiar affection that is set on her above the rest of mankind.
"I pray for them, I pray not for the world."
The elect church is the favorite of heaven, the treasure of Christ, the crown of His head, the bracelet of His arm, the breastplate of His heart, the very center and core of His love.
A husband should love his wife with a constant love, for this is how Jesus loves His church.
He does not vary in His affection. He may change in His display of affection, but the affection itself is still the same.
A husband should love his wife with an enduring love,
for nothing
"shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
A true husband loves his wife with a hearty love, fervent and intense. It is not mere lip service. Ah, beloved, what more could Christ have done in proof of His love than He has done? Jesus has a delighted love towards His spouse: He prizes her affection, and delights in her with sweet contentment.
Believer, you wonder at Jesus' love, you admire it, but are you imitating it?
In your domestic relationships is the rule and measure of your love
Christ's love for His church?
