PRAYER 9, Part 3: September 20th  
GLORIOUS LIBERTY.
Part 3 of 3

3 God, bless our country, and the sister country across the flood [Atlantic], and all lands where Thy name is known and reverenced, and heathen lands where it is unknown. God, bless the outposts, the first heralds of mercy, and everywhere may the Lord’s kingdom come and His name be glorified. Glory be unto the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. [In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ] Amen. Anecdote 50: September 20th   Christ Ever the Same.
Men in the days of Toplady looked back to the days of Whitfield; men in the days of Whitfield looked back to the days of Bunyan; men in the days of Bunyan wept because of the days of Wycliffe, and Calvin, and Luther; and men then wept for the days of Augustine and Chrysostom. Men in those days wept for the days of the Apostles; and doubtless men in the days of the Apostles wept for the days of Jesus Christ; and no doubt some in the days of Jesus Christ were so blind as to wish to return to the days of prophecy, and though more of the days of Elijah than they did of the most glorious day of Christ. Some men look more to the past than the present. Rest assured, that Jesus Christ is the same to-day as he was yesterday, and he will be the same for ever.

Blessed be the God of grace that it is so! He has a people whom He has chosen from of old [long, long ago] to be His peculiar portion [possession] .  These by nature have wills as stubborn as the rest of the froward [hard-headed, contentious] sons of Adam; but when the day of His power comes, and grace displays its omnipotence [infinite power], they become willing to repent, and to believe in Jesus. None are saved unwillingly, but the will is made sweetly to yield itself. What a wondrous power is this, which never violates the will, and yet rules it!  God does not break the lock, but He opens it by a master-key which He alone can handle [use]. Now are we willing to be, to do, or to suffer as the Lord wills.  If at any time we grow rebellious He has but to come to us with power, and straightway we run in the way of His commands with all our hearts. May this be a day of power with me as to some noble effort for the glory of God and the good of my fellow-men! Lord, I am willing; may I not hope [shouldn’t I hope]  that this is a day of thy power? I am wholly at thy disposal; willing, yea, eager, to be used of thee for thy holy purposes. O Lord, let me not have to cry [out] , -To will is present with me, but how to perform that which I would, I find not- ; but give me power as thou givest me will. [give me power equal to the will and will equal to the power.]

"The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon. "—Judges 7:20

     GIDEON ordered his men to do two things: covering up a torch in an earthen [clay] pitcher, he bade [told] them, at an appointed signal, break the pitcher and let the light shine, and then sound with the trumpet, crying, "The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon! The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon!" This is precisely what all Christians must do. First, you must shine; break the pitcher that conceals your light; throw aside the bushel that has been hiding your candle, and shine. Let your light shine before men; let your good works be such, that when men look on you, they will know that you have been with Jesus. Then there must be the sound, the blowing of the trumpet. There must be active exertions for the ingathering of sinners by proclaiming Christ crucified. Take the gospel to them; carry it to their door; put it in their way; do not suffer them to escape it; blow the trumpet right against their ears. Remember that the true war-cry of the Church is Gideon's watchword, "The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon!" God must do it, it is His own work. But we are not to be idle. Instrumentality is to be recognized—"The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon!" If we only cry, "The sword of the Lord!" we shall be guilty of an idle presumption; and if we shout, "The sword of Gideon!" alone, we shall manifest idolatrous reliance on an arm of flesh: we must blend the two in practical harmony, "The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon!" We can do nothing of our­selves, but we can do everything with the help of our God; let us, therefore, in His name determine to go out personally and serve with our flaming torch of holy example, and with our trumpet tones of earnest declaration and testimony, and God will be with us, and Midian [the enemy] will be put to confusion, and the Lord of hosts will reign forever and ever.

 

 

EVENING       September 20th

 IN the evening of the day opportunities are plentiful: men return from their labor, and the zealous soul-winner finds time to tell abroad the love of Jesus. Have I no evening work for Jesus? If I have not, let me no longer withhold my hand from a service which requires abundant labor. Sinners are perishing for lack of knowledge; he who loiters may find his skirts [his clothing] crimson [red] with the blood of souls. Jesus gave both His hands to the nails, how can I keep back one of mine from His blessed work? Night and day He toiled and prayed for me, how can I give a single hour to the pampering of my flesh with luxurious ease? Up, idle heart; stretch out your hand to work, or uplift it to pray; heaven and hell are in earnest, let me be so, and this evening sow good seed for the Lord my God.
      The evening of life has also its calls. Life is so short that a morning of

manhood's vigor, and an evening of decay, make the whole of it. To some it seems long, but a four pence [four cents] is a great sum of money to a poor man. Life is so brief that no man can afford to lose a day. It has been well said that if a great king should bring us a great heap of gold, and bid us take as much as we could count in a day, we should make a long day of it; we should begin early in the morning, and in the evening we should not withhold our hand; but to win souls is far nobler work, how is it that we so soon withdraw from it? Some are spared to a long evening of green old age; if such be my case, let me use such talents as I still retain, and to the last hour serve my blessed and faithful Lord. By His grace I will die in harness [spreading the gospel], and lay down my charge only when I lay down my body. Age may instruct the young, cheer the faint, and encourage the desponding; if eventide has less of vigorous heat, it should have more of calm wisdom, therefore in the evening I will not withhold my hand [be idle].

A SINNER’S  PRAYER  

    Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

    Pray and call on the name of the Lord Jesus.

 

“Lord Jesus, I’m a sinner. I’m lost and it’s hopeless for me to save myself. Without you and your death on the cross I would spend eternity in Hell.

I know that me doing my best or being good (in my own opinion)  and justifying my own behavior as "good"  or "OK"  can never be enough to save me.
I look to You, alone  Lord Jesus to save me. 
I come to You   right now.  Lord Jesus. Will You  please save me.  I believe You died on the cross in my place to pay for my sin debt and put to death my sin nature. I know  You always keep your word.  Please save me. You have said and  it’s written in the Bible that you won’t reject anyone who comes to you. Thank You.

I  give myself completely to You, Lord Jesus. I’m sorry for every sin I’ve done and I now turn away from each one and look to You to forgive me, save me and deliver me from future evil.  Thank you for forgiving  all of  my sins by dying on the cross paying the punishment that I deserve.  I’m a sinner by nature and by my actions. But now I'm washed clean by Your blood that was shed for me at the cross.

Thank you Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me before I was bor n and that You love me now and will always love me and will never reject or turn your back on me. I know You are the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no one can come to the Father other than by You.

Thank you Father that You have made a way for me to see myself as ungodly.  But,  because You are good You have made a way and given me the desire to come to You, to turn away from my sin and to trust in the Lord Jesus.  You have forgiven me because He took my place and You have provided for  me to be born again [born from above, born of the Holy Spirit]. 
You prompted this desire and faith to believe in Your only begotten Son who,gave up  His life and died on the cross to pay my sin debt, not mine alone, but the sins of the whole world.

Thank You, righteous Father of love that you allowed Jesus to suffer and die raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave and in Christ Jesus there is no condemnation. After You raised Him from the dead You gave Him a Glorified, [everlasting] physical body and  after he was seen by many witnesses on earth You took Him up to reign with  You  in heaven. 

 

Thank you for saving me.  I pray this in the name, of Your only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ with a grateful heart.   Thank You for saving me heavenly Father and for the Comforter, The Spirit of Truth, for my guidance and solemn instruction into all truth.,  Amen.”

Thank You Holy Spirit of Truth, Comforter, Paraclete [one who comes along side]  for the new life in Jesus and victory that comes when I recon myself dead indeed unto sin and alive unto God through Christ Jesus our Lord trusting You, Holy Spirit for the execution of this vow.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, that you always bear witness of and exalt the Lord Jesus.  John 16:8-11

      A person  (YOU) may come to Jesus by  believing and (whole heartedly) praying and confessing The Lord Jesus publicly like this:

But now I'm washed clean by Your blood that was shed [poured out] for me at Calvary [at the cross].

      Thank You,  Holy Spirit of  Truth, my Comforter, my Paraclete [my true best-friend who is by my side and always has myback]  for the new life in Jesus and the victory that comes because I have reconed myself dead indeed unto sin and alive unto God through Christ Jesus our Lord trusting You, Holy Spirit for Your  empowerment to see this promise fulfilled. Romans 6:11

      Thank you that you, Holy Spirit,  always exalt [lift up] the Lord Jesus.  John 16:8-11With all my heart, I thank you Lord Jesus for saving me.

I ask now that You live Your life through me in Your name, Lord Jesus  I pray, Amen.

 A SINNER’S PRAYER:   … FOR WHOSOEVER:

Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved     … pray like this, won’t you?   

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am hopeless.  I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross to pay my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned in Hell. My nature has been  self centeredness from birth.  Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m sorry for each and every sin I have done and look to You to forgive me of them all.
I look to You, alone  Lord Jesus to save me.
I call on You,  Lord Jesus, right now to save me.  You died on the cross for me, and because of my sin.

Today’s PRAISE music selections came to mind from today’s Anecdote, Faith’s Checkbook, and todays date for the birth of a Godly Nation built on God’s Word, The Holy Bible.

 

OUTWARD practical holiness is a very precious mark of grace. I fear that many have perverted the doctrine of justification by faith [in Jesus Christ] in such a way as to treat good works with contempt; if so, they will receive everlasting contempt at the last great day. 

If our hands are not clean, let us wash them in Jesus' precious blood, and so let us lift up pure hands to God.

 

But "clean hands" will not suffice, unless they are connected with "a pure heart."

 

True religion [faith] is heart-work. We may wash the outside of the cup and the platter as long as we please, but if the inward parts be filthy, we are filthy altogether in the sight of God, for our hearts are more truly ourselves than our hands are; the very life of our being lies in the inner nature, and hence the imperative need of purity within.

 

The pure in heart shall see God, all others are but blind bats.

 

The man who is born for heaven "hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity." All men have their joys by which their souls are lifted up;

the worldling [“carnal man”] lifts up his soul in carnal delights which are mere empty vanities; but

the saint loves more substantial things.

 

Like Jehoshaphat, he is lifted up in the ways of the Lord.

 

He who is content with husks [pig slop] will be reckoned [counted] with the swine.

 

Does the world satisfy you? Then you have your reward and portion in this life; make the most of it, for you will know no other joy.

"Nor sworn deceitfully. " The saints are men of honor still. The Christian man's word is his only oath; but that is as good as twenty oaths of other men.

 

False speaking will shut any man out of heaven, for a liar will not enter into God's house, whatever may be his professions or doings.

 

Reader, are we  condemned by false speaking or do we hope to ascend to the hill of the Lord [ZION] ?

The Inside  Story of Westcott and Hort:

In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,

thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort or Nestle & Aland.is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on  defective text. Those who honor the Word of God must not promote any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is entirely  evil in itself, but because being contented to use a weakened version rather than the existing, preserved, inerrant unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has preserved for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it must  be to Him if His people now chose versions based on  the defective  Greek manuscript  invented  by either Westcott & Hort or Nestle & Aland.

"Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me [Spurgeon's comment] of Mr. Bunyan’s picture of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melody] , for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.

Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven. Oh for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus; it is our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.
