Daily Spurgeon
DEVOTION for November 2nd 2025
ALL SAINTS DAY, October 31st, has been a tradition celebration date for remembering and honoring departed Christian Saints.
It is also the date that Martin Luther nailed “ A Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences”, this is the actual title of what became known as Martin Luther’s “95 Theses” to the Castle Church AKA All Saints Church in Wittenberg, Germany that brought charges against the Church’s practice of selling indulgencies. These 95 Theses are considered the beginning of and the catalyst for the Protestant Reformation.
It is also the date on which my Daddy was born in 1897. I give honor to Charles Dumah Riley; my Daddy to whom honor is due. I am so blessed to have been given to him and to my mother, Martha Eldora Bozeman born on April 27th 1900, both of whom loved me and trained me up in the way I should go. Proverbs 22:6
The Pilgrim’s Progress is presented here as a daily Audio episode. Scroll to SACEED LITERATURE to hear your selection. Charles Spurgeon read this over 100 times and would often make references to the Characters inspired and presented by its author, John Bunyan. It was written in 1678 and is the most popular English Literature title EVER (other than the Bible) and has NEVER been out of print.

Note: The New King James Version NKJV and all versions that are NOT translated from the Textus Receptus [The Received Text] contain variant and inferior readings that diminish the full glory and Holy reverence contained in the 1769 Edition of the 1611 King James Version KJV Bible. The King James Version KJV also known as the Authorized King James Version AKJV or the Authorized Version AV. ALL GLORY is due to and divinely belongs to the Omnipotent Lord of ALL.
The Geneva Bible is also faithfully translated from the Greek Textus Receptus and includes the commentaries of devout, faithful and Holy men of GOD.
Only the Textus Receptus [Received Text] is produced from more than 5,321 original Majority Greek Manuscripts MT and agree 99% with one another. All other variant readings are translated from either Westcott and Hort’s or Nestle and Aland’s, Greek Texts fabricated from only a handful [45] of Majority Text Manuscripts MT and lack the trustworthiness of the inspired 1769 [1611] King James Version, KJV and the Geneva Bibles. are the only two translations from the traditional, reliable, inspired, [GOD BREATHED] immutable and providentially and divinely protected Textus Receptus.

The Bridge to Babylon video presents historical evidence that accounts for the explosion of over 100 different English version translations of the Bible. The continuing attempts to replace, add or take away from the 1769 King James Version of the Holy Bible can not prevail because GOD Himself preserves and protects His inspired Holy Words
from all heresy, blasphemy, confusion , error additions, subtractions and changes.

* BCE/CE vs. BC/AD What’s the difference?
defend the Truth. Won’t you?
A.D. does NOT mean “After Death” as many mistakenly believe. It is Latin for Anno Domini, a phrase adopted into English usage that means “Year of [the/our] Lord”. The complete original phrase "anno Domini nostri Jesu Christi" means "in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ”. A.D. is used with B.C. Before Christ to divide all history before and after the birth of Jesus Christ. ...More

Should DAILYSPURGEON be trusted? Is it trustworthy?
Is it of God?
Yes! Here’s why.
Beloved ones, don’t be believing every spirit [everyone or !everything] you hear but be testing the spirit [voice] whether it is of God: because many false prophets have gone [come] out into the world. Here’s how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit [voice] that confesses [avows] that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh, having come[who came] out of God, is of God: and every spirit that confesses not [doesn’t audibly avow] that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
I hereby confess, audibly, that Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh.
[All translations of the Bible that use any Greek text other than the traditional and faithful Textus Receptus ignore the word “ictin” [the Greek word for “is” in English]. This omission causes the meaning of “is here” to change from “is come” [is here] to “has come”.
This error is self-evident as non-believers, false prophets and heretics can, and frequently do, declare that He “has come” [in the flesh].
While this is a true statement, taken at face value, the meaning “has come” is clearly not the same as “is here” ; which is the valid, test of discernment between the Spirit of God and the spirit of antichrist.
The most well documented fact in all human history is that Jesus Christ [The Messiah] “has come” in the flesh. However, the question of greatest importance, is not whether the spirit [words or person] being considered and tested confesses that Jesus Christ “has come” in the flesh but, whether the confession being made affirms that Jesus Christ, “is come” [is here], from God, in the flesh.
30 for we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32
This is a great mystery: but I [Apostle Paul] speak concerning Christ and the church. [The body of CHRIST]
Consider scripture with scripture :
“I speak concerning Christ and the church.” [the fleshly embodiment, here and now , of the body of Christ]. Because followers of Jesus Christ are members of the incarnate Body of Christ [The Church]

DAILY SPURGEON and DEVOTION for November 2nd * A.D. 2025 written and calendared by Charles H. Spurgeon.
The Lord Jesus Christ is come [is here] in the flesh, 1 John 4:2-4
and was born of a virgin A.D. 2025 years ago.
He’s alive today, has existed from eternity past to eternity future as God’s eternal, everlasting Word that has always existed as The Body of Christ [The Messiah]
and He’s returning soon for his bride, the Church.
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit,
believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16
Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of the earth:
for I am God and there is none else. Isaiah 45:22
We choose and fervently desire to Worship God in Spirit and in Truth:
-
By Praying to my heavenly Father, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob;
1 Thessalonians 5:17 -
By Hearing and obeying the eternal, inspired, immutable, inerrant, infallible, revealed and protected Word of God, revealed by The Holy Ghost through Jesus Christ, the living WORD;
1 Peter 1:23 -
By Being filled with the Holy Spirit; speaking to ourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in our heart to the Lord;
Ephesians 5:18-19 -
By Gathering in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ [The Mesiah].
For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I [The Lord Jesus] in the midst of them.
Matthew 18:20 .
-
By Joining with us in prayer, Bible study, gospel preaching, singing sacred hymns, anthems and praises in the worship of The God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob [Israel] in spirit and in truth.
DailySpurgeon is a website of inspired, encouraging, and challenging devotional messages written by Charles Haddon Spurgeon for such worship. I pray that this website be blessed and effectively used, Heavenly Father, to the save the lost. Encourage and embolden us as we “Study to shew [show] ourselves approved unto God, workers that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing [sharing] the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15 …in Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.
Loving and worshiping God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength in Spirit and in truth is our labor of love and the joyful duty of every believer. This heart’s desire will grow stronger as we give ourselves to fully devoted prayer, reading and meditating on God’s Word, gathering ourselves together to hear Gospel preaching, and singing Psalms, sacred hymns and spiritual songs.
We pray that DailySpurgeon.com inspired by our Heavenly Father and empowered by The Holy Ghost will compel many souls to be born again. We desire that many will repent and trust in The Lord Jesus Christ [Messiah] .
We ask also that it would inspire and manifest ever growing devotion, consecration and personal discipleship in every born-again believer as they become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
This web site is not intended, were it possible, to take the place of in-person, Christian fellowship, inspired and live gospel preaching or congregational assemblies for instruction in the WORD and praise and worship.
Rather, it is intended to encourage and strengthen fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ [The Messiah] in:
Personal fervent and righteous Prayer,
Bible study and obedience to the Rightly divided Inspired [God Breathed] Inerrant [Incapable of error], Infallible [Incapable of mistake or being wrong], or Immutable [Unchanged and Unchangeable], Holy WORD of GOD.
“Study to show yourself approved unto God, a worker that needs not be ashamed, rightly dividing [accurately comprehending and sharing] the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
Our aim is to follow the Lord Jesus Christ who says, “I am the way, the truth and the life…” John 14:6
Jesus was lifted up from the earth, hung on the cross and gave up his life to save sinners, John 12:32 Therefore, we pray that many should not perish, but come believing in Jesus Christ and have everlasting life. This invitation is extended to all non-believers for them to turn away from sin, look to the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. We pray also that all believers will be built up being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:28-30
We pray DailySpurgeon.com will be empowered by The Holy Spirit, to save the lost and to lead believers in Christ to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ [The Messiah]. in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Website contains selections from the writings of Charles H. Spurgeon, Sermons from The Metropolitan Tabernacle and sacred music. It includes Bible scriptures, prayers, anecdotes, devotional thoughts, as well as the singing of Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. …be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody [music] in your heart to the Lord; Ephesians 5:18-19
Lord Jesus, please strengthen, encourage and challenge all believers to be drawn closer to yourself.
We pray for abundant and frequent harvests of souls and that all non-believers will repent and turn away from sin, look to the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. We pray that all believers will remain faithful as they are conformed to the image of Jesus Christ; by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:28-30

Our Debt to God Malachi 3:8-10 with Dr. Peter Masters
In an atheistic age people do not think about owing anything to God. But our lives, gifts, powers and bodily provisions are all from Him, and we surely owe Him thanks and obedience. How will we stand before our Maker at the end of our journey?

PRAYER 14, Part 3 of 8 November 2nd
BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL!
[O Lord] May there be going up this day sweet incense, of praise laid by holy hands, privately upon the altar of God. May the place be filled with the smoke thereof, not perhaps to the consciousness of every one, but to the acceptance of God [to Your acceptance, Lord] who shall smell a sweet savor of rest in Christ, and then in the praises of His people in Him. But, Lord, when we have praised Thee [You] we have to fold the wing; yea, we have to cover the face and cover the feet and stand before Thee [You] to worship in another fashion, for we confess that we are evil, evil in our original, and though renewed by sovereign grace Thy [Your] people cannot speak of being clean, [completely free] rid of sin. There is sin which dwelleth in [doth so easily beset] us which is our daily plague. O God, we humble ourselves before Thee. We ask that our faith may clearly perceive [see] the blood of the atonement and the covering of the perfect righteousness of Christ; and may we come afresh, depending alone on Jesus [Jesus alone]. “I, the chief of sinners am, [says the Apostle Paul] but Jesus died for me.” May this be our one hope, that Jesus died and rose again, and that for His sake we are accepted in the Beloved
[Jesus Christ].
[I pray this In your name Lord Jesus, Amen.]
(Complete Prayer is attached: PRAYER 14.doc)
Anecdote 93: November 2nd The Christian’s Secret.
I have looked at this, rest after rest as being a treasure concealed in a precious box. The Lord Jesus gives to his people a priceless casket, called the gift of rest; it is set with brilliance and inlaid with gems, and the substance thereof is of wrought [custom made] gold ; whosoever possesses it feels and knows that his warfare is accomplished and his sin is pardoned. After awhile the happy owner begins to examine his treasure. It is all his own, but he has not yet seen it all, for one day he detects a secret drawer, he touches a hidden spring, and lo! before him lies a priceless Koh-i-noor [huge diamond] surpassing all the rest [all others]. It had been given him it is certain, but he had not seen it at first, and therefore he finds it. Jesus Christ gives us, in the gift of himself, all the rest [peace] we can enjoy, even heaven’s rest lies in him; but after we have received him we have to learn his value, and find out by the teaching of his Spirit the fullness of the rest which he bestows [gives].
Faith’s Checkbook November 2nd C.H. Spurgeon 1834-1892
HEAVENLY WEALTH
-No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly- Psalm 84:11
-No quitará el bien a los que en integridad andan- Salmos 84:11
Many pleasing things the Lord may withhold, but no good thing. He is the best judge of what is good for us. Some things are assuredly good, and these we may have for the asking through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Holiness is a good thing, and this He will work in us freely.
Victory over evil tendencies, strong tempers, and evil habits,
He will gladly grant, and we ought not to remain without it.
Full assurance He will bestow, [freely give] and
near communion [intimate and close fellowship] with Himself, and
access into all truth, and
boldness with prevalence [prevailing boldness in prayer] at the mercy seat. If we have not [don’t have] these, it is from want [lack] of faith to receive, and not from any unwillingness of God to give.
A calm, a heavenly frame [body],
great patience, and
fervent love — all these will He give to holy diligence.
But note well that we must -walk uprightly.- There must be no cross purposes [double-mindedness] and crooked dealings; no hypocrisy [double-standard] nor deceit. If we walk foully [contaminated by sin] God cannot give us favors, for that would be a premium [reward] upon [for] sin. The way of uprightness is the way of heavenly wealth — wealth so large as to include every good thing. What a promise to plead [earnestly ask for] in prayer! Let us get to our knees.
Prayer: Thank You Lord that You will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly [trust and follow You with uncompromised integrity]. Thank You that you will not withhold holiness, victory over evil tendencies, strong [angry] tempers, and evil habits. Thank You for the full assurance of salvation, a close communion [fellowship] with You Yourself, access into all truth and prevailing victory through boldness in prayer at the mercy seat.
Please help me [us] to walk uprightly, everyday, expecting Your heavenly wealth. I pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus, Amen.

… and pray for the saving of souls and strengthening of believers.
The Lord … is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Pray also that believers will be taught by the Holy Spirit to rightly divide God’s eternal Word preserved by God, Himself.
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten [supernaturally fathered] Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but may be having eternal life.
John 3:16 vis. Textus Receptus [The Received Greek Text] (The overwhelming majority of extant New Testament Greek texts.)
Incomplete codices Sinaiticus and Vaticanus are not considered to be majority texts [Masoretic and Textus Receptus]. They predate majority texts and bring variant readings from those established, overwhelmingly, in majority texts. They often disagree with one another and with the settled majority texts thus, apparently justifying, the need for additional editions. These unsettled differences and bolstering of certain sectarian doctrine [dogma] have produced many ambiguous readings; translations not supported by majority Greek and Hebrew texts and confusion in the explosion of so many new Bible translations.
Publishers are cashing-in by marketing “new and better” English translations of The Bible, the world’s best seller of all time, with little concern about maintaining the fidelity and accuracy already settled from the majority manuscripts of the Masoretic Hebrew and the Textus Receptus Greek.
God, Himself, has and will always preserve His immutable [unchanging and unchangeable], eternal, inerrant, infallible, infinite and all-powerful Word to the whole world.
MORNING November 2
"I am the Lord, I change not. "— Malachi 3:6
—Yo Jehová, no me mudo¾ Malaquias 3:6
IT is well for us that, amid all the variableness of life there is One whom change cannot affect. One whose heart can never alter [change], and on whose brow [forehead] mutability [changes] can make no furrows [wrinkles]. All things else have changed—all things are changing. The sun itself grows dim with age; the world is waxing old; the folding up of the worn-out vesture [clothing] has commenced [begun]; the heavens and earth must soon pass away; they shall perish, they shall wax old [wear out] as does a garment; but there is One only who has immortality, whose years have no end, and in whose person there is no change. The delight the mariner feels when, after having been tossed about for many a day, he steps again on the solid shore is the [same] satisfaction of a Christian when, amidst all the changes of this troubling life, he rests the foot of his faith on this truth: I am the Lord, I change not." [Hymn: (sing-along, won’t you?)
“On Christ the Solid Rock I stand…” All other ground is sinking sand.]
(Click for audio & lyrics)
The stability the anchor gives the ship when it has at last obtained a hold-fast [secure place] is like that which the Christian's hope affords him when it fixes itself on this glorious truth. With God "is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Whatever His attributes were of old, they are now; His power, His wisdom, His justice, His truth are alike unchanged. He has ever [always] been the refuge of His people, their stronghold [strength] in the day of trouble, and He is their sure helper still. He is unchanged in His love. He has loved His people with "an everlasting love"; He loves them now as much as ever He did, and when all earthly things shall have melted in the last conflagration [fire], His love will still wear the dew of its youth. Precious is the assurance that He changes not! The wheel of providence revolves [turns], but its axle is eternal love. Death and change are
busy ever [always with us], Man decays, and ages move; But
His mercy waneth [diminishes] never; God is wisdom, God is love.
EVENING November 2
"Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake Thy law. "— Psalm 119:53
—Horror se apoderó de mí, á causa De los impíos que dejan tu ley— Salmos 119:53
MY soul, do you feel this holy shuddering at the sins of others? If not,
you lack inward holiness. David's cheeks were wet with rivers of waters because of [his] prevailing unholiness; Jeremiah desired eyes like fountains that he might lament the iniquities of Israel, and Lot was vexed [angered] with the conversation of [interaction with the] men of Sodom. Those on whom the mark was set in Ezekiel's vision were those who sighed and cried for the abominations [sins] of Jerusalem.
It cannot but grieve gracious souls to see what pains men take to go to hell.
They [we] know the evil of sin experimentally [from experience], and they [we] are alarmed to see others flying like moths into its blaze. Sin makes the righteous shudder because it violates a holy law which is in every man's highest interest to keep; it pulls down the pillars of the commonwealth [general well-being]. Sin in others horrifies a believer because it puts him in mind of the baseness of his own heart: when he sees a transgressor he cries with Bernard,
"He fell today, and I may fall tomorrow." Sin to a believer is horrible because it crucified the Savior; he sees in every iniquity the nails and spear. How can a saved soul behold that cursed, kill-Christ sin without abhorrence [hate]? It is an awful thing to insult God to His face.
The [only true and infinitely] good God deserves better treatment, the great God claims it, the just God will have it or repay His adversary to his face.
An awakened heart trembles at the audacity [bold faced-ness] of sin, and stands alarmed at the contemplation of its punishment. How monstrous a thing is rebellion! How direful [awful] a doom is prepared for the ungodly!
My soul, never laugh at sin's fooleries, lest you come to smile at sin itself.
It is your enemy, and your Lord's enemy. View it with detestation, [detest and hate it]
For…
only in this way can you evidence the possession of holiness, without which no man can see the Lord.
MISSION STATEMENT & A SINNER’S PRAYER:
MISSION
Our aim is to fulfill God’s purpose in us to save souls, strengthen and encourage believers in the Word, proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ as we serve those in need. We believe the Bible is God’s revealed Word and that through His Word He guides us as individuals and as a local body of believers. We are resolved, God helping us, to study, meditate and pray to rightly divide God’s revealed and preserved Word holding it as the final authority in all things.
The purpose of The John Mark Publishing Company is to make known the Gospel of The Lord Jesus Christ to everyone. We desire to show the love of Jesus to those in need, especially those in the household of faith. The Bible is God’s everlasting, inspired, (God breathed) inerrant, unchangeable, divinely protected and preserved message of salvation to the whole world. It is the essence of the ministry inspired here.
The inspirational source of preaching, teaching and writing by Charles Haddon Spurgeon is from this same essence. His writings continue to be much read and much used today in the support of Gospel preaching. Such ministry is still flourishing in London at (Spurgeon’s) Metropolitan Tabernacle the church constructed for the 6,000 member Spurgeon congregation in the 1800's. Our effort here is to increase the publication, circulation and use of Spurgeon's materials for the benefit of the church body as well as all other readers. To this end we have arranged a daily Table of Contents and have added brief annotations [shown in brackets] while maintaining a strict fidelity to the original and unabridged text.
Published Titles from Spurgeon’s written work are used exclusively as the resource from which
selections are made for inclusion into the Daily Spurgeon:
C.H. Spurgeon Prayers

These titles are from the inspired body of work created from the preaching and writing of Charles Haddon Spurgeon 1834-1892. No servant of God has a greater legacy of gospel exposition to the world in the English language. (Now translated into many other languages) Spurgeon has been and is today widely read with great benefit from the 1800’s to this present time. He is the beloved founder of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, England (Still thriving TODAY through the faithful preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.) Prayer: Dear Lord, please empower this, Your ministry to thrive in winning souls, and helping us to be loving and compassionate toward all who are in need, especially those in the household of faith, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
Disclaimer: The John Mark Publishing Company is not intended to praise or exalt Charles H. Spurgeon. He didn’t need or want it then and wouldn’t desire it now. Our aim is to lift up and glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and to preach HIM and him only.
Precaution: These Messages and prayers alone will not substitute for continual fellowship with the Lord Jesus. Neither do they replace personal reading, meditation, prayer and fasting over God's divinely preserved and eternal Word. (The King James version (KJV), known also as the Authorized Version (AV), is the preferred English Bible because its accuracy and fidelity to the Greek Textus Receptus [received text] and the Hebrew Masoretic Text) avoid doctrinal error and editorial weaknesses found in other editions.
Printed Prayer Selection: must not be read or offered as a substitute for personal, fervent, effectual, heart-felt, prayer. It is offered, rather, to warm the hearts of those who presently will seek a season of fervent, authentic two-way, heart-to-heart fellowship and prayer with the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
Preaching Preparation: As you study and prepare to preach a specific, scriptural text, Please inform us as to the text so that we may send you a Sermon from Mr. Spurgeon’s work that most closely aligns to and addresses your selected text.
My Prayer: Dear Father, Please touch, lift up, encourage and teach all who read this, right now. Bless all who minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May Your blessing and holy anointing fall fresh upon this dear reader and continually upon each one who rightly divides and faithfully proclaims Your Word [The Bible]. Please save many souls; and be glorified in everything You do. I pray in the name of our Redeemer, The Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

THE SINNER’S PRAYER
Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
Pray and call on the name of the Lord Jesus.
Pray like this, won’t you? :
“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner hopeless without You. I would never be able to save myself. Without your death on the cross to pay my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned in Hell. By nature and practice I am a natural-born sinner. I’m totally depraved and I sin because I am a sinner. Please forgive me.
I realize that doing my best or being as good as possible, or being better than other people or having good excuses can never save me.
I look to You, alone Lord Jesus to save me.
I call on You, by name, Lord Jesus, right now to save me. You died on the cross in my place to pay for my sin. Your Word says, “It shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21. Thank You, Lord.
Right now, I surrender my sinful self to You, just as I am, Lord Jesus. I trust You to forgive me and save me and be my Lord and Savior.
Please forgive me for all my sins. I’m sorry for every sin (bad thoughts, words and things I have done) and look to You to forgive me of them all. I need your strength to overcome sin’s temptations. Thank you for forgiving me.
You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross.
Thank you Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me before I was born and that You love me still.
Thank you Heavenly Father that You have made the way of redemption, forgiveness and atonement for me and have drawn me away from sin and death into Life in Your only begotten son. He took my place and suffered my punishment.
Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave. In Christ Jesus there is therefore now no condemnation.

A SINNER’S PRAYER:
Thank You for saving me heavenly Father and for sending the Holy Spirit for my guidance, comfort and solemn instruction into all truth, Amen.”
With all my heart, I thank you Lord Jesus for saving me. In your name, Lord Jesus I pray, Amen.
Please allow us to rejoice over your new birth in the presence of angels in heaven who rejoice over one sinner that repents. Luke 15:10

SACRED LITERATURE:
ORIGINAL: The Pilgrim’s Progress Pub. by Logos,1853 from 1678 Original by John Bunyan
REVISED TEXT by Barry E. Horner: The Pilgrim’s Progrefs [sic]...
in Pilgrim’s Progress. (The World’s most widely circulated Allegory by John Bunyan, also credited, by some, as being the world’s first English novel.
IT’S FREE. No subscription required. You may choose to read at your own pace, or you may want to view DailySpugeon.com for daily encounters with Pilgrim.)
"Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me [Spurgeon's comment] of Mr. Bunyan’s picture of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melody] , for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.
Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven. Oh for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus; it is our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.
