PRAYER 6 Part 4 of 5

THE WONDERS CALVARY. [The Cross]

Lord, get us up above the world. Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, and mount and bear [carry] us on Thy wings, far from these inferior sorrows and inferior joys, up where eternal ages roll. May we ascend [come up] in joyful contemplation, and may our spirit come back again, strong for all its service, armed for all its battles, armored for all its dangers, and made ready to live heaven on earth, until by-and-by [later on] we shall live heaven in heaven. Great Father, be with Thy waiting people, any in great trouble do Thou greatly help [Do help them] ; any that are despondent do Thou sweetly comfort and cheer [comfort and cheer them]; any that have erred, and are smarting [hurting] under their own sin, do Thou bring them back and heal their wounds; any that this day are panting after [thirsty for] holiness do Thou give them the desire of their hearts; any that are longing for usefulness do Thou lead them into ways of usefulness.

Lord, we want to live while we live. We do pray that we may not merely groan out an existence here below, nor live as earthworms crawling back into our holes and dragging now and then a sere [withered] leaf with us; but oh! give us to live as we ought to live, with a new life that Thou hast [have] put into us, with the divine quickening which has lifted us as much above common men as men are lifted above the beasts that perish. If her Majesty should give me the title-deeds of an estate, signing the transfer with her own hand and seal, I should smile at the lackey who should kindly offer to add his authority to her Majesty’s act and deed. Where the word of a king is there is power, and this is preeminently true where the word of the King of kings is concerned. I have believed in Jesus Christ as he is set forth on the authority of God himself, and who are you, Sir Priest, to come between me and God?

Not all at once, but by degrees shall we attain to holy knowledge, and our business is to persevere [continue] and learn by little and little [little by little]. We need not despair, though our progress may be slow, for we shall yet know. The Lord, who has become our Teacher, will not give us up, however slow of understanding we may be; for it is not for His honor that any degree of human folly [self-centered vanity] should baffle [frustrate] His skill. The Lord delights to make the simple [ones] wise.

Our duty is to keep to our main topic, and follow-on to know, not this peculiar doctrine nor that, but Jehovah Himself.

To know Father, Son, and [Holy Ghost] Spirit, the Triune [Three in one] God, this is life eternal: let us keep to this, for in this way we shall gain complete instruction. By following on to know the Lord, we learn healing after being torn, binding up after smiting, and life after death. Experience has its perfect work when the heart follows the track-way [in the footprints ] of the Almighty Lord.

My soul, keep thou close to Jesus, follow-on to know God in Jesus, and so shalt thou [shall you] come to the knowledge of Christ, which is the most excellent of all the sciences [all knowledge].

The Holy Ghost [Spirit] will lead thee [you] into all truth. Is not this His gracious office [Divine purpose]? Rely upon [trust] Him to fulfill it.

Prayer: Thank You Lord, that when we follow-on to learn of You, we shall know You. I pray this In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen.

MORNING September 2

"But Simon's [Peter’s] wife's mother [mother-in-law] lay sick of a fever, and anon [soon] they tell Him [Jesus] of her. " —Mark 1:30

VERY interesting is this little peep [glance] into the house of the Apostle Fisherman [Simon Peter]. We see at once that household joys and cares are no hindrance to the full exercise of ministry, nay [no], that since they furnish an opportunity for personally witnessing the Lord's gracious work on one's own flesh and blood, they may even instruct the teacher better than any other earthly discipline. Papists [Those who follow the Pope] and other sectaries [denominations of faith] may decry [restrict or not permit] marriage, but true Christianity and [common] household life agree well together.

Peter's house was probably a poor fisherman's hut, but the Lord of Glory entered it, lodged in it, and wrought a miracle in it. Should our little book [Morning and Evening] be read this morning in some very humble cottage [small room], let this fact encourage the inmates [residents] to seek the company of King Jesus.

God is oftener [more often] in little huts than in rich palaces. Jesus is looking round your room now, and is waiting to be gracious to you. Sickness had entered Simon's house, fever in a deadly form had prostrated his mother-in-law [to bed], and as soon as Jesus came they told Him of the sad affliction, and He hastened [hurried] to the patient's bed.

Have you any sickness in the house this morning? You will find Jesus by far the best physician.

Go to Him at once and tell Him all about the matter. Immediately lay the case before Him.

It concerns one of His people, and therefore will not be trivial to Him. Observe that the Savior restored the sick woman at once; none can heal as He does.

We may not make sure that the Lord will at once remove all disease from those we love, but we may know that believing prayer for the sick is far more likely to be followed by restoration [healing] than anything else in the world; and where this avails not, we must meekly bow to His will by whom life and death are determined. The tender heart of Jesus waits to hear our griefs, let us pour them into His patient ear.

EVENING September 2

"Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe." —John 4:48

A CRAVING after marvels [preoccupation for the spectacular] was a symptom of the sickly state of men's minds in our Lord's day; they refused solid nourishment and pined [yearned] after mere wonder. The gospel they so greatly needed, they would not have [would not accept]; the miracles [that] Jesus did not always choose to give, they eagerly demanded. Many, now days, must see signs and wonders, or they will not believe. Some have said in their heart, "I must feel deep horror of soul, or I never will believe in Jesus." But what if you never should feel it, as probably you never may? Will you go to hell out of spite against God because He will not treat you like another?

One has said to himself, "If I had a dream, or if I could feel a sudden shock of I know not what, then I would believe.

"Thus you undeserving mortals dream that my Lord is to be dictated to by you!

You are beggars at His gate, asking for mercy, and you must needs [presume to] draw up rules and regulations as to how He shall give that mercy. Do you think that He will submit to this?

My Master is of a generous spirit, but He has a right royal [infinitely and perfectly just] heart. He spurns all dictation [will not be dictated to] and maintains His [own] sovereignty of action. Why [Well], dear reader, if such be your case, do you crave for signs and wonders? Is not the gospel its own sign and wonder? Is not this a miracle of miracles, that

“God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him might not perish”?

Surely that precious word,

"Whosoever will, let him come and take the water of life freely"

and that solemn promise,

"Him that cometh unto Me, I will in no wise cast out,"

are better than signs and wonders! A truthful Savior ought to be believed. He is truth itself.

Why will you ask proof of the veracity [truthfulness] of one who cannot lie?

The devils themselves declared Him to be the Son of God.

Will you mistrust Him?

A SINNER’S PRAYER

Whosoever shall call on the name of the lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

Pray and call on the name of the Lord Jesus, like this. Won’t you?

“Lord Jesus, I’m a sinner. I’m lost and hopeless to save myself. Without you and your blood that was shed for me and Your death on the cross I would spend eternity in Hell’s fire.

Thank you Lord Jesus that You love me and died for me before I was born and that You have always loved me and will never reject or turn your back on me. I know You are the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no one can come to the Father but by You.

Thank you, Father that You have caused for me to see myself as I am; a lost sinner. But, because of Your love and goodness, You have made a way and given me the desire to come to You, to turn away from my sin and to trust in You, Lord Jesus. You took my place on the cross and provided the way for me to be forgiven. Thank You.
Thank You that You prompted a desire in me to believe in You, the only begotten Son of God who died on the cross to be the sacrifice that would atone for my sins.

Thank You, Father for Your love that allowed Jesus to suffer and die in my place. Thank You that You raised Jesus from the dead. He is RISEN and is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave and in Christ Jesus I am free.

You raised Jesus from the dead, gave Him a Glorified body and after he was seen by many witnesses on earth You took Him up to reign with You in heaven.

Thank you, Father, for saving me in the name, of Your only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

God has preserved His Word through The Masoretic Hebrew of the Old Testament and the GreekTextus Receptus of the New:

In contrast, the Incomplete and unsealed codices of Sinaiticus and Vaticanus are not translated from the over 5,312 Majority Text Greek manuscripts, that became the Textus Receptus [Original Masoretic Hebrew and the Greek Textus Receptus]. Sinaiticus and Vaticanus present variant, ambiguous and erroneous readings rather than that of the well-established and settled texts. They disagree often with one another as well as with the settled majority texts. Thus, an attempt to create a pretext that will continue to justify a never-ending demand for additional editions and interpretations. These unsettled differences and bias in certain sectarian doctrine [dogma] have led to the production of multiple “modern” editions with ambiguities, many variant readings and confusion from the explosion of unending, new editions.

Profit-driven publishers have embraced such an economic windfall to sell a continual flow of “new and better” English edition of The Bible. They give too little attention to the fidelity and accuracy already settled [in heaven] in majority manuscripts of the Masoretic Hebrew and the Greek Textus Receptus.

God, Himself, providentially protects and preserves His Word. His Word is the God-breathed, self-authenticating, immutable [unchanging and unchangeable], eternal, inerrant, infallible, infinite and all-powerful Word, settled in heaven. He is not the author of confusion.

The above link is to search for specific words or Scriptures in the King James inerrant and infallible English Version (KJV) because it is providentially protected and preserved by GOD Himself through the only translation into English by faithful brethren from the 5,312 established majority text manuscripts MT from which the New Testament Greek Textus Receptus [received text] was taken and the Hebrew Masoretic Text of the Old Testament (Jewish Tanakh). In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,

thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on a defective text. Those who want to honor the Word of God must not promote the use of any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is entirely evil in itself, but because being contented to use a weakened version rather than the existing, preserved, without error unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has preserved for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it would be to Him if His people now chose instead to use versions that are based on defective Greek manuscript created by Westcott & Hort or Nestle & Aland.

Pilgrim Progress is the world’s most famous Allegory, It and the Bible were commonly the only books to be found in the cabin of early American Settlers and were loved and read more than any book, second only to the Holy Bible. It’s also considered, by some, as being the world’s first English novel. It’s likely the most published book other than the Bible of all time. There were 1,300 editions printed before 1938, 250 years after the Bunyan’s death. Hence, the world’s most famous Allegory.

Spurgeon: Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me of Mr. Bunyan’s picture of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [happy melodies] , for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart [main castle] he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.

Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, Oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven. Oh, for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus, The Messiah; our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.

As the sweet honey-bearing flowers attract the bees, so does the name of Jesus draw all his saints to him, and so to each other. Give me your hand, my brother, if you also know my Lord we belong to the same family, the infallible mark of the redeemed is upon us both.

These things cannot be parted [separated] — abiding in obedience, and abiding in the love of Jesus. A life under the rule of Christ can alone prove that we are the objects of our Lord’s delight. We must keep our Lord’s command if we would bask [sun-bathe] in His love. If we live in sin we cannot live in the love of Christ.

Without the holiness which pleases God, we cannot please Jesus.

He who cares nothing for holiness knows nothing of the love of Jesus. Conscious enjoyment of our Lord’s love is a delicate thing. It is far more sensitive to sin and holiness than mercury [that measures temperature in thermometers] is to cold and heat.

When we are tender of heart, and careful in thought, lip, and life to honor our Lord Jesus, then we receive tokens of His love without number. If we desire to perpetuate [always be in] such bliss we must perpetuate [constantly dwell in] holiness.

The Lord Jesus will not hide His face from us unless we hide our face from Him. Sin makes the cloud which darkens our Sun: if we will be watchfully obedient and completely consecrated, we may walk in the light, as God is in the light, and have

as sure an abiding in the love of Jesus as Jesus has in the love of the Father.

Here is a sweet promise with a solemn “if.” Lord, let me have this “if” in my hand; for as a key it opens this casket [treasure chest].

Prayer: Thank You Lord Jesus, that if [Because] we keep your commandments, we shall abide in your love the same way You abide in the love of Your Father. Help me always to abide in Your love, in Your name, Lord Jesus, Amen.

THE Psalmist [David] felt his need of divine guidance. He had just been discovering the foolishness of his own heart, and lest [for fear that] he should be constantly led astray by it, he resolved that God's counsel should henceforth [from that moment forward] guide him.

A sense of our own folly [futility of self-trust, amusements and avoidance of responsibilities] is a great step toward being wise, when it leads us to rely on the wisdom of the Lord.

The blind man leans on his friend's arm and reaches home in safety, and so would we give ourselves up implicitly to divine guidance, nothing doubting [without doubt]; assured that though we cannot see,

it is always safe to trust the All-seeing God.

"Thou shalt," [You shall] is a blessed expression of confidence [in God] . He [David] was sure that the Lord would not decline [fail to perform] the condescending task [of guidance].

There is a word [from God] for you,

0 believer; rest in it. Be assured that your God will be your counselor and friend; He will guide you; He will direct all your ways. In His written Word you have this assurance in part fulfilled, for holy Scripture is His counsel to you. Happy are we to have God's Word always to guide us!

What would the mariner [seafaring man] be without his compass? And what would the Christian be without the Bible? This is the unerring [inerrant and infallible] chart, the map in which every shoal [reef] is described, and all the channels from the quick-sands of destruction to the haven of salvation mapped and marked by one who knows all the way.

Blessed are you, 0 God, that we may trust You to guide us now, and guide us even to the end! After this guidance through life, the Psalmist anticipates a divine reception at last

—"and afterward receive me to glory."

What a thought for you, believer! God Himself will receive you to glory

—you! Wandering, erring, straying, yet He will bring you safe at last to glory!
This is your portion [inheritance]; live on it this day [today], and if perplexities should surround you, go in the strength of this text [In prayer] straight to the throne.

FAITH is as much the rule of temporal as of spiritual life;

we ought to have faith in God for our earthly affairs as well as for our heavenly business.

It is only as we learn to trust in God for the supply of all our daily need that we will live above the world. We are not to be idle, that would show we did not trust in God, who works hitherto [right here], but in the devil, who is the father of idleness.

We are not to be imprudent or rash; that were [would be] to trust chance, and not the living God, who is a God of economy and order.

Acting in all prudence and uprightness, we are to rely simply and entirely on the Lord at all times.

Let me commend [recommend] to you a life of trust in God in temporal things. Trusting in God, you will not [never] be compelled to mourn because you have used sinful means to grow rich. [Because you didn’t.]

Serve God with integrity, and if you achieve no success, at least no sin will lie on your conscience. Trusting God, you will not be guilty of self-contradiction. He who trusts in craft [clever strategies], sails this way today, and that way the next, like a vessel tossed about by the fickle [capricious, ever changing] wind;

but he that trusts in the Lord is like a vessel propelled by steam: she cuts through the waves, defies the wind, and makes one bright silvery straightforward track to her destined haven. Are you a man with living principles within?

Never bow to the varying customs of worldly wisdom. Walk in your path of integrity with steadfast steps, and show that you are invincibly strong in the strength which confidence in God alone can confer [give] .

Thus, you will be delivered from carking [worrisome, complaining and whining] care, you will not be troubled with evil tidings, your heart will be fixed, trusting in the Lord.

How pleasant to float along the stream of providence! There is no more blessed way of living than a life of dependence on a covenant-keeping God. We have no care [reason to worry], for He careth [cares] for us; we have no troubles, because we cast [hurl, throw, set the course of and conclude] our burdens [trusting] on the Lord.

A SINNER’S PRAYER

But, because of Your love and goodness, You have made a way and given me the desire to come to You, to turn away from my sin and to trust in You, Lord Jesus. You took my place on the cross and provided the way for me to be forgiven. Thank You.

Thank You that You prompted a desire in me to believe in You, the only begotten Son of God who died on the cross to be the sacrifice that would atone for my sins.

Thank You, Father for Your love that allowed Jesus to suffer and die in my place. Thank You that You raised Jesus from the dead. He is RISEN and is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave and in Christ Jesus I am free.

You raised Jesus from the dead, gave Him a Glorified body and after he was seen by many witnesses on earth You took Him up to reign with You in heaven.

Thank you, Father, for saving me in the name, of Your only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

In 1870, The Church of England finally passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:
